Senthil's lack of confidence and self-assurance is a sign that he grew up in an abusive household. Gomathi, the "good" parent enables Pandian's behaviour, downplays it, and excuses it. She is very loyal to him. Pandian, the abuser, thinks he is a hero/victim all the time. He wants praise for basic parental duties (he expects his children to always be under his control just for doing basic fatherly duties like having a house for them to stay at). Kathir is the scapegoat who points out the problems in the house and is on the receiving end of most of Pandian's rage, and Pandian projects all his shame onto him. And Saravanan is the golden child (literally has a wife called Thangamayil or "Golden Peacock" lol) - he is treated special and Pandian lives vicariously through him. Saravanan leads a so-called "respectable" life with a stable job and an arranged marriage, which Pandian didn't have. He grew up a poor orphan, and eloped for his wedding. Senthil and Kathir's weddings trigger this insecurity of his. That doesn't justify his actions. Please don't normalise Pandian's abuse just because he uses the word "father". Biological father or adopted father (father-in-law, in this case) - this behavior is unacceptable and cannot be fixed just because he buys snacks. Do something revolutionary and send this entire family to therapy, both individual therapy and family therapy - that's the real solution.
