Most other classical music singers sing raagas as if they are wrestling them. They make the whole thing look like a stunt. Ajoy Chakrabarty sings raagas as if he is romancing them. So gentle, so subtle and yet so convincing! He is simply unique.

This is clearly vintage Ajoy Chakraborty. This is not exactly "Basant Bahar" concert but somewhere in Fremont in a private gathering. In 1987, I was back in India (very far from the bay area). Very unfortunate to have missed so many of these rich listening experiences. Clearly, panditji was having a lot of fun going through the raag-mala, based on Pahadi. Samar Saha was on tabla. At 38:12, he transitioned to Nand, which he did not utter but sang a few lines of a famous bandish. The Hamshadhwani was sung at the request of my friend, Nagesh Avadhani, whom I haven't seen for more than thirty years. Hamshadhwani was great, but I like his rendition of Vatapi ganapathim vajeham. God bless panditji!
