In fact even the Vilambit Shankara bandish sung here, ‘Aadi Mahadev been bajai’, is by the Muslim composer Niyamat Khan ‘Sadarang’, believed to be a court musician in the court of the emperor Mohammad Shah Rangile.

These muslims are Brahmin Converts who have not left the Shastra Sangeet and Guru Shishya Paddhati - so the Brahman Tradition continue . There is nothing Islamic in this.

So the music that has existed in the subcontinent for a long while is likely a mixed tradition, and I for one do not suppose that the relative influences of A and B can be quantified. One can use a word of one’s choosing for the initial historical act - mixed, adapted, stolen - the actual truth being shrouded in a gamut of possibilities. But over time, the genre has an existence larger than and different from its medieval history. It is now, in these relatively recent times, a less heard traditional genre, that has moved from raj durbars to public and private mehfils to Radio programmes to gov-t events to online KZbin concerts and Spotify recordings. Things are more layered than they may, on the first glance, seem to be.
