The purity of the swaras wherein you can distinguish each and every note even in his fast taans make him one of the greatest Hindustani classical vocalists of last century. A few years back, I tried to collect the renditions of Pandit Mallikarjun Mansurji however small the snippet of his performance might be. I ended up with nearly 90 raagas!! and each one a gem in its own. In my honest opinion, we will not see another vocalist like him in near future

@@ud1976 not even close from the current crop of singers..Mansurji was always deeply immersed spiritually in his music which is difficult to commit to and imbibe with all the trappings of fame musician gets. I remember reading an article last year published in the Hindu about another legend Vidushi Kishori Amonkar (the article was published on occasion of he passing on) where in the writer had remarked how Kishoriji was amazed at the way Mansurji was so immersed in music which she could never achieve,. Kishoriji specifically mentioned the rendition of Raaga Kabiri Bhairav by Mansurji which always left her amazed. Hence I don't think anyone from the contemporary singers comes near to Mansurji. In my opinion, we have lost the last of that breed with the passing on of Vidushi Kishoriji. I would recommend anyone interested in learning more about Mansurji to read his autobiography "Nanna Rasayatre" (which is also available in English) to understand Mansurji a bit more. Also recommend to listen to a set of 5 CDs which AIR has brought out on Mansurji a few years back which has panditji's rendition of Raaga Kabiri Bhairav as well as Kannada vachanas which are rare gems.

Really very natural village life in Karnataka near Dharwad. Proud of him, being from small village and great devoted hard worker to reach the unique place in Indian Hindustani vocal classical music.

I have visited his village, though he is from humble place. Great hard work, guidance from Gurus and original stuff made him, national level great divine vocalist of Jaipur Autroli gharana exponent.

36:16 is Bhoop Kalyan. Notice the meend from Pa to Ga via Teevra Madhyam. Also, Jaipur's Shuddha Kalyan is a bit distinct from other gharana's Shuddha Kalyan.

@@gauravdjgm No, actually it's indeed Bhupali. The Shuddha Kalyan meend that you mention is not that superficial as here and the teevra M is distinctly recognisable in the meend, which is missing here. Even one cannot here a Nishad meend, a necessity for SK. Moreover, Salone laal kaise is a traditional composition of Bhupali. It's even given in Bhatkhande's Kramik Pustak Malika.
