And when the tragedy of Sabire happened Vincent showed Alice what he did to Cheshire which was taking his eyes out with a pair of scissors. So when Cheshire became a chain, he had no eyes.

*Spoiler* Correction. Yes, Chesire originally was a cat. Which also, yes, gave Alice company. However, Vincent had shown what he had done to Chesire on a day Alice was waiting for Jack. This was before Jack left her, so it was before the Tragedy of Sablier. But everything else is correct.

No the anime isn't bad at all! It may leave a few details out but it didn't get far enough in the series to reveal that Alice committed suicide rather than being killed by Vincent. I watched and read along with each other and they seemed to match well.
