I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. So this performance runs deep, cuts deep. I understand the loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. There is a tenderness and vulnerability there that I have not heard before, and it just breaks you. And her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. The poetry of this song is also heart-rendingly exquisite. It is a poem, a prayer, an elegy. Listen to it. Just listen to it. Tuomas’ poetry can easily stand alone. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling.

Floor slayed this whole album, and particularly this song, despite the fact that she had given birth to her second child six weeks earlier and was still recovering. She couldn't travel, as she could barely stand up, so her vocals were recorded in her home studio. What a goddess.

In an interview, Thuomas said that they had planned 2 weeks for the recordings, Floor sang all the songs in 6 days, as he praised. But you also have to say that Hannes and Floor's studio has professional equipment, as the songs they recorded there during Corona show

Such a beautiful and heartfelt reaction! My condolences on the passing of your Mother. I have watched it dozens of times and it always hits me in my feels. The new album, Yesterwynde, is the final album in the trilogy of Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human Nature that explore concepts of evolution, science, nature and most importantly, what it means to be human and our place in the universe. Laternlight is the last song on the album but the first one that Tuomas wrote. Composed back in 2021 after the passing of his father. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. A number of references to Auri and other Nightwish songs. "I am in the light and flood" and " I am in the four winds" IMO are shout outs to the Auri songs Light and Flood and The Name of the Wind. Very beautiful instrumentals that have a similar feel. The line "I am you who climbed off your back" is straight out of Decades in the Sun and of course "To the meadows I go" is tapping into the same symbolism and meaning as the song Meadows of Heaven. A heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy. A beautiful tribute to everyone that is the lantern light guiding friends and family through our journey of life. Tuomas has sad this is not a sad song but a love song. That if we have lived a life of joy and meaning then we shouldn't be sad at the end but celebrate a life well lived. I think this song and Epica's Tides of Time will be the songs for my funeral when I pass.

Pure Floor. I love this song. Btw, this song was Floor's pick for a single, it made her cry when she first heard it (I had the same reaction to this song, it's so touching). Tuomas lost his father a few years ago and he wrote this song out of that emotion. The message is to enjoy life, as it's beautiful and should be celebrated instead of grieved when it ends.

Thank you very much for your deeply felt reaction. This is my favourite song of the new album; I always tear up when listening to it. Gone is the hurt, the wait, gone is the warmth of day. A stray boat saved, happy memories engraved, on into a velvety night, beneath a lanternlight. Last night brought the heaviest of snows melting the songs of old, tying the boat, write a new one soon, sending me to the drowning moon, far above a lanternlight. I'm in the light and flood, I'm in the four winds, I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems, I am the snow on your palm. I am the secret stream, moss beneath your feet, I am you who climbed off of my back not long ago, a sheltered song in a world now gone, petrichor, the timeless. Turn loose the swaying boat, meltwater, sound of spring. I hear our song now, sung by the free, for a thousand more tomorrows of an incomplete weave. To the meadows I go, I’ll be waiting for you once upon a lanternlight. I walk now toward the trees, I am the secret stream, the night falling at my feet into the forest of Yesterwynde.

While I love this song so much - it is my favourite song of 2024 - I have to recognize that listening to you reading the lyrics is even more satisfying and wonderful. Hi Pandora, Starting deep and low... This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover. Mmm, the warmth of her voice. “Last night brought the heaviest of snows” That sad piano about to sink below the ice. “Melting the songs of old” Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”. The old flickering movies, like memories. Floor soaring away. Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning. Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references? “I am the snow on your palm” [Storytime?] “I am the secret stream” [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness?] “Moss beneath your feet” [My Walden?] “I am you who climbed off of my back” [Our Decades in the Sun?] “Petrichor” (with a hint of green) [The smell of fresh rain on grass, Last Ride Of The Day, Song of Myself?] “Timeless” (with a hint of a smile) [Perfume of the Timeless?] “To the meadows I go” [Meadows of Heaven?] Then Troy drifts in, with his soft voice, he made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :) Pope Leo Xlll, who served until his death in 1903 at the age of 93. Timing at the anniversary of your Mom passing. Yep, tissues are needed.
