Never knew Swindoll much as a man - gained a lot of respect for his honesty and humility regarding his marriage and children -- you can tell how much he cares for his family by the fact that his mistakes toward them are still painful to him.

@romania1977 Chuck swindoll has kind of a wierd blend of both. He has a sermon called "Straight Talk On Predestination" where He claims to be calvanist, but then explains predestination more in terms of foreknowledge.

The way I understand predestination is that because God is outside of time and space He has already seen the beginning from the end, right! Because He has already seen from His vantage point who has already accepted or responded to the gospel with their free-will, He will then predestine everyone to be either a vessel fit for wrath or a vessel fit for glory! In other words, according to His foreknowledge, He predestines us! Rom.8:29; 1 Pet.1:20; Rev.13:8.
@uncasunga1800

wrong Man is so wicked no one would respond He didnt choose us becuase he owes us freewill He chose us intentionally out of the ones He chose for wrath as a Love gift for His only Legitimate Son, Jesus Christ, as His descendants. You have to grow up enough to admit your own complete depravity that you like everyone has nothing to offer God. Ou r actions do not appease Him.

Rom.8:29 “For whom God foreknew He predestined...” In His sovereign judgement He chose to predestine according to His foreknowledge. Are you saying He can’t do it that way if He wants too?

Gen.2:16-17 God have Adam and Eve a choice to eat or not to eat the fruit. Joshua 24:15 Choose this day whom you will serve. Deut.30:19-20 I set before you life and death. Choose life. 2Pet.3:9 The Lord is not willing that any should perish but that everyone should come to repentance. Rev.3:20 If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in. Other than giving us Jesus, the greatest thing He gave us is free will. Without it, you are nothing more than a moist robot! According to His foreknowledge of your whole life laid out before Him before you were born, He predestined your life! Not only that but because of the thousands of different directions you could have choose to go throughout your life

I think classicjukebox you might be referring to limited atonement, which is the view of Calvinists. Chuck is not a Calvinist nor have I ever heard him teach limited atonement. Universal atonement is biblical. Jesus died for ever body and everybody can achieve atonement. All these men have a great love for Jesus though I don't agree with everything they say.

Universal atonement ? , I have listened to Chuck for years and I don’t think I have ever heard that before. Can you send me a link or a sermon you are referring too ? I have heard people make comments like this many times that have no real substance to them. I have referred many people both believers and unbelievers to Chuck’s ministry over the years.

Give these poor guys some decent chairs to sit on -- perching on a stool is really uncomfortable for older men, and some of them are pretty large to boot. I don't care much for JMac and James Mac, but any older man deserves some accommodation as a matter of courtesy.

@claumeister1

@@georgejung722 I mean "I don't care much" in the sense of the expression, "I don't care much for broccoli." That doesn't mean I have ill will toward it or those who eat it, or can't respect it as a healthy food. Regarding these 2 men, JMac's Calvinist theology and scientifically dubious ideas about the age of the earth, climate change, and other science matters with a ton of data backing them up (I'm not talking about darwinian evolution, btw) I believe are either not biblically sound or they project a sense of X'ty as willfully ignorant of scientific matters. As for James Mac, his preaching always struck me as graceless and his character as bullying and immature, which recent events have borne out. Of course I care about both men as humans made in God's image. And in JMac's case, I care that we show courtesy to a man in his 70s, and accommodate his physical age, even though I disagree with him as stated.

@@claumeister1 that's funny I feel everything you said about them towards you, but that's just my opinion and you're entitled to yours, touche, that doesn't make either of us right, we're just lonely people of the dirt compared to God and His truth in his glory we see through a mirror dimly someday we'll know but not till we get there.
