When I was in the first year at secondary school we had single wooden desks with a recessed white ceramic ink well in the top right hand corner. We didn't get to use them as the school had just invested in the brand new technology of 'Cartridge Pens', Biros were still a few years off at this point :-)

your commentary is brilliant and it's a crime you don't have more subs. Thanks to this video, I'm going to try panel lining with this kind of pen and see if it can work for my clown hands too

im not sure you didnt say but i was surprised by how much farther the capillary action traveled when the piece is held vertically and progressing top to bottom

I'm guessing that the fact that it was so difficult to create a decent line on the paper is probably either down to the lower surface tension and viscosity of the panel liner compared to water-based inks, or because the way the nib is made causes it to dump the ink, which is more desirable for this application but could equally be indicative that these are low quality items being repackaged for use in applications where that quality is desirable. To be clear I think there's value in having a tool that can be used to panel line like this and won't degrade like a brush would, so I don't think that you made a poor purchasing decision by any means. For calligraphy $8 is very much on the low end of the market as I understand it, so there's only so much more that they could possibly have marked it up by, if at all.
