→ 3M VHB Tape 5952 Double-Sided Acrylic Foam Tape - Heavy Duty, Industrial Mounting Tape: amzn.to/3JNJuk6
Finally getting some skin on those bones!! It's been a long-time coming just to get to this phase of the build and is definitely a rejuvenating milestone. Once it gets seam sealed and finished sanding, it's off to paint!

It is looking great! I think the tape is going to work just fine. A quality tape on a clean and smooth surface is a stronger bond than most people think.

Where did you source the honeycomb panels? Looked a bit online and didn’t have much luck.

Just found your channel and this amazing build. You can be stoked about the panels you made! Sometimes I wish my wife would occasionally be interested in my projects (not all😃). Thanks for the tip about the double-sided tape. I just ordered it. If you can use it to glue your camper, I can certainly use it to glue the rear inner and outer fenders on my Defender😂 Cheers from Munich

Curious to see what type of seam sealer you are going to use. So many people just throw angle iron over each corner, but your design should come out much cleaner. Well done!!

I know that this sticky tape is super strong . But How does it stand against water leakage?
@BadassBrunette
@BadassBrunette 5 ай бұрын
The tape is simply holding the panel to the skeletal frame. Like a rivet. Then we did automotive seam sealant on every edge. There has been zero leaking so far.

Looks great. Nice progress. I'm curious about using the "angle iron" with the aluminum. No worries about a galvanic reaction causing issue with the paint down the road? People are bitchin all over the Gladiator forums cuz our trucks are a mix of steel and aluminum and this is causing issue with the paint. Cosmetis concern only really, but thought I'd ask.
@BadassBrunette
@BadassBrunette Жыл бұрын
Technically I misspoke. It's not true angle iron. It's aluminum angle track.. whatever the official name is for that. The entire camper will be aluminum. Any steel is with the flatbed.

Will there be a flex, vibration, temperature and stress test to make sure the double sided tape hold those panels? I love the clean look. My only concern is driving down the freeway and one of those panels comes off and hits another vehicle. Is there any safety precaution just in case? Safety leash for each panel maybe? Looking forward to seeing the completed build 👍

@229Reaper Жыл бұрын
This is exactly my thoughts...I thought after the panels install they were going to weld every seam...yeah it looks great for sure...but going off-road and vibration if the panels move a Little the silicon seam will brake and it gonna have leaks.Overall I'm sure this camper will awesome.
@BadassBrunette

I used this tape on my solar panel brackets on my old camper. 4 years later they're still up there and refusing to budge. The strength of this stuff is no joke. So no, Im not worried about these just flying off while rolling down the freeway. Its not like this is its final form. It'll be sealed, edged, and epoxied. Plus the interior insulation that'll be glued to each panel and secured internally. And look, if something comes loose, again its not going to just rip off and fly off in dramatic fashion. It might come loose in place to which we will address it then. But the tape and seam sealer will actually allow the camper to have some bend and flex while offroading, which is a good thing.
@BadassBrunette
@BadassBrunette Жыл бұрын
@229Reaper The tape and seam sealer allows for the camper to flex and give while offroading. That's a good thing. This stuff is not going to suddenly become brittle and just break off. We're using very expensive industrial material. Pretty sure it'll withstanding a wee bit of vibration. Besides which, if Things that are too rigid and don't have ANY movement, that's where cracks and breaks happen.

@@BadassBrunette First off this build is awesome, amazing job and thanks so much for posting. My only concern with the tape (if i were to do it for myself) is freezing temps to very hot temps; we go from 40c highs to -40c lows up here. The interior insulation glued and secured internally would pretty much eliminate any concern, excellent point,; so long as the glue is rated for temp and moisture. Very cool idea and process. I'm curious, if you ever see this, if you had considered any alternative methods. Only thing I could think of would be rivets but that's not great for looks + it makes holes everywhere

Why did you choose passenger side for the camper door?
@pghmtnbiker
@pghmtnbiker Жыл бұрын
Probably because she lives in the US and when you park on a street, you want to be able to access the camper without standing in traffic.

Layout efficiency. The fuel ports are on the driver side, which is where the diesel tank/ heater will reside. Going off the back was a consideration for a while but then you can't utilize the entire backspace for mountable storage (like fuel and traction boards).
@timphillips8966
@timphillips8966 Жыл бұрын
I think you're gonna have problems with the panels letting go of the "sticky tape." Freeze/thaw cycling will kill that tape, the panels will pop loose and rattle you into an insane asylum. At this point I'd add rivets to ensure it all stays together. Automotive panel adhesive woulda been a better choice than the tape. I sincerely hope I'm wrong tho...
