Great list. Fantagraphics and D&Q definitely have a place in my list too. Congrats for Brazil.

A lot of great picks, like Hollow Press and Koyama (RIP) which have a lot of my favorite books. Just want to throw some attention towards New York Review Comics and Floating World Comics which didn't make your list (though it might be because of their heavy American distribution network). NYRC is always finding some old gems and bringing them back to contemporary audiences and Floating World is finding a happy medium by doing some restoration work while simultaneously putting out innovative new comics.
@earlgrey862 Жыл бұрын
I agree on both: NYRC is pretty cool, their collected "Trots & Bonnie" is amazing & I have a weird Manga collection from them as well ... but overall not enough (quantity-wise) to make it into my list... and floating world publishes great stuff as well, but unfortunately most of it is not available over here at all.

@@earlgrey862 Well, it increasingly is, since they are now also distributed by Lunar and we have started to stock all new releases ;)

Peow had been an absolute favorite of mine. Tragic they closed up shop this year. Any of Linnea Sterte's books, or Freddy Carrasco's Gleem are both worth hunting down.

nice choices. Didn't even expect drawn and quarterly to be this far up. But then again, there's less publishers one often assumes. And fantagraphics just remains great. I am again in awe of many recently advertised publications in spite of the fact that I stopped collecting long ago. Dammit!

My favorite right now is Fantographics too. Cant get enough of the Disney Masters books. Big fan of what Rebellion and thier 2000 AD stuff too.

D&Q only on 6, that was a surprise! But yeah, their peak is probably in the 90s (like Fanta ;)... Btw, if you like Koyama, Floating and other "art school" publishers, you probably also enjoy Silver Sprocket? They have an increasingly strong output; same goes for the British Avery Hill Publishing; but I am sure there's nothing new I can tell you about obscure indie publishers ;) Cool vid!!

Very surprised to see Conundrum Press on your list! They're a local publisher to me, but I've only read the Hobtown Mystery books they've published - both volumes are beautiful and so fun. Kind of a Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys mashup with Twin Peaks. I need to check out more of their comics, especially the Paul stories.

At this time, I wish you had two cameras to see everything properly.That close dance of the books, made my eyes a little crossed. Good listing by the way. My favorite would be also, Fantagraphics. I only have a particular issue with this publisher: the 3rd and yet unpublished volume of King of The Flies by Mezzo.

floating world is on my radar recently, but as always your taste is impeccable. picked up dharma punks on your advice recently and loved it. strong vibes of my own days as a sharp in the 80s. recently finished the second volume of the wilson bio and must wait awhile before the third; his stuff is brilliant and subversive but mind altering, and perhaps not in the healthiest way. like otto dix with the the volume cranked.

Floating World is great... but not in terms of making their stuff available over here

@@earlgrey862 so, thanks to your fine art video, i'm now looking at my own copy of that enormous prestel kandinsky monograph. it was worth every penny, and though i prefer the later munich and moscow work, i've been staring at motley life from 1907 for about an hour. this is why i buy things in the biggest format possible. also would love to see more fine art stuff, perhaps on gerhard richter? his portraits, especially those of his daughter, are haunting my dreams. yours has been an important and influential voice in my life for a few years now, and i thank you for it. also there's a new short work by igor hofbauer, called crimson quays. he only drew it, but still...

@@ArchibaldGurnsbach thanks for your nice words… it‘s incredible to know that my little channel can have such an impact. But even better: it goes both ways. The best example is that new book by Hofbauer of which I‘ve heard nothing about & that I now will check out for sure…. And a good reminder to eventually continue my „fine art“ video series

I never thought to rank publishers this way before...but this definitely gets one thinking. As I think about it I might have to put Dark Horse at number one if I consider their whole 30 years output, with all the variety and singular voices they've presented me over the years...despite the fact that I'm not currently overwhelmed by them month by month... But Fantagraphics does the best hardbacks, for which I thank them, with IDW in a close behind them for hardcovers...

I was in a "ranking mood" the last couple of days... fave artists, writers and so forth & then I thought of this one as an "opener"
@AlucardNoir Жыл бұрын
I'm shocked by the fact you have IDW above Dark Horse, let alone Image at rank 2. But nr. 1 was no surprised. I've been watching your channel for long enough to know your favorite publisher. In fact, had it not been Fantagraphics I would have been shocked.

there you have me on a spot: the ranks that you mention, the ones from 2 to 4 were the ones I changed the most & feel the most uncertain about.

An exquisite selection, nice Schmankerl pointed to the cam! Its a shame to ruin enjoyments like "Halo Jones" with that nonsensical shrunkery. (Yeah, i learned - sometimes it's about being carefull or different reasons 💵📈) 😔 I'm looking forward to check on that "2000 AD" magazine. Thanks for the little publisher overview today.

JA, ja, highly recommended😂 du weißt ganz genau, was dieser Satz anrichtet. DANKE für die tolle und unerwartete Idee. P.S.
