Nice Panerai... I don’t follow instagram trends..I like cool, robust, classic and well designed watches...like this baby. However, I prefer the more modern no date version.

A really good video with an excellent narration. Up until quite recently I’ve been an exclusive Rolex and Omega collector but I’ve always had a soft spot for Panerai. I really like the shape, colours and the in house bracelet / strap options. As a timepiece I think they have an unmistakeable personality all of their own. I don’t think anyone mistakes a Panerai for any other brand. PAM00424 or PAM00931 is now at the top of my list of ‘next to get’

I tried on both the PAM 424 California dial and the PAM 425 S.L.C. watch. Both were beautiful looking watches and so tempting. Unfortunately, when you actually get them on the wrist, you realise how LARGE they are. 47mm just felt TOO big. Beautiful watch but, Panerai really does need to do a California dial piece in a smaller size!

Great video, but I would have liked you to demonstrate and share the feel of the hand winding. Also, did you mention what the luminous material is? 9 hours us amazing. Thanks
@mikec34543 жыл бұрын
My Luminor 773 winds like butter, it's extremely smooth, as I'm sure is the case with all in-house Panerai movements. You just wind it until it stops, like a Speedmaster. The luminous material is Super Luminova I believe. I charge mine with my EDC light before bed and the lume last all night until morning.

My fav watch of all time and I have many. You wind it until it stops (another nice feature that it won’t let you over wind) and you’re good for another 3 days. I have the non-date version which makes for a slightly cleaner face.

Very good review of a splendid piece. Leading artisans in contemporary watch making, tend to create manually wound movements tuned to 3 Hz or less. This watch shares that intention of fine watch making traditions.

Very detailed review and very informative. It's not my favourite looking watch. I prefer divers watches.

did Rolex make the movements for Panerai? or did they sell them a third party pocket watch movements that they had? coz u know all i hear is that Rolex didnt make there own movements untill they aquaiered aigler in 2004, or was there some exceptions to that? great review 👍 thank u :) i enjoyed it.
@mikec34543 жыл бұрын
I believe Rolex did make cases and provide old pocket watch movements to earlier Panerai watches. Panerai was essentially a dial maker and assembled the finish product - but I welcome correction on this. You're correct about Rolex - Aigler was essentially under contract to Rolex to exclusively make their movements. So it's kind of splitting hairs here, because Rolex clearly had power over Aigler, despite being a separate company. The Aigler factory even had "Rolex" across the top of the building.

If Rolex only started to produce their movements in 2000s, how was it producing in 1930s to Panerai?

My next PAM for sure ... No date version though. Only thing that would make this watch even cooler is if it was a completely sterile dial. I don't mind the logo, but would look even cleaner without.

Good Review, but, Too Big (my wrist is 7.25 inches) and Too Expensive.
@ElijsDima5 жыл бұрын
Ah.. Great design (in its own funky way), unfortunately oversized, and sold by a brand well past their peak yet priced to the nines still... I'd love to pick up a similar watch, done this well in 39-40mm, from a reliable* microbrand at an affordable price. *- meaning, not parnis/nonames, but actual brand with actual QC and legit water resistance...
@ElijsDima5 жыл бұрын
@ray h. Micros as nonames? Not at all. You're thinking of Mushroom Brands. Established micros (halios, nth, helson, monta) have very tight qc, very much unlike what you get from parnis (buy a parnis off ebay, it's a crapshoot if it even works let alone holds together).
@ElijsDima5 жыл бұрын
@ray h. Microbrand watches? 7 NTH, 1 borealis, 2 Aevig, 2 Lew & Huey, 3 Obris Morgan, 2 Geckota, 1 Autodromo, 2 Christopher Ward, 1 Maen, 1 Seals Watch Co, 1 Melbourne Watch Co, and others. Also have had a bunch of orients, citizens, 1 Oris 65, 2 Damaskos, 2 Nomos, 3-4 Bulovas, etc. All of them I'd trust far more than a parnis.

Think the date looks awkwardly placed and it is better without it. Personally prefer the look of the 249.
@luxman9463 Жыл бұрын
Awkwardly placed? It’s in the same place it usually found on a large percentage of timepieces. FWIW the 424 is available with and without date. For me I find the date a feature I prefer, having owned both variants after a while the date no longer stands out so that ended up being the one I kept. It’s also a bit more rare or as you may prefer to say less popular.

£6,800! Really? That's Rolex money (or a decent Grand Seiko and change).
@algorithm007ify5 жыл бұрын
Well...Panerai make better watches than rolex that are equal in build quality, much more exclusive, and have a “cooler” or more funky design...Panerai make Tourbillions and minute repeaters for their high end peices, not rainbow bezels. Moreover, Panerai have advanced case materials like BMGTech and carbon fibre, while rolex still use their outdated 904L steel.

Why is the dial made the way it is, with both Roman and Arabic numerals? To be 'different'? Random fads are simply unfathomable... Not my cup of tea. Good review nevertheless.
@mikec34543 жыл бұрын
"Random fads"? lol California dials have been around for decades, since the 1940s if I'm not mistaken. Hardly a random fad there, nice try though.
