I feel like they expected you to still have the Raccoon Tail power-up to slow your fall for the blind falls. Not great design since you're kinda screwed without it, but I guess that's the best way to replicate the differences in how the screen scrolls in this game. The funny thing is I've played Mega Man 2 SO MANY times I'd know the blind fall pattern by heart. So I think that's part of it too. If this was an original level then it would be terrible, but since it's mimicking one of the most famous levels in gaming history it gets a mild pass from me.

that MM2 level was really spot on. i loved the fish for the drill sections. Those blind falls are exactly like that and yeah i think you would hate them in the original if you played it today. but it seemed like the openings were wider in MM than they were here... probably a perspective thing.

That mega man 2 level was a good likeness, especially the boss fight (the arena sort of disintegrates). It was a good effort to recreate some power up effects and for the blind fall you kind of had to know the level

Being speculative here but I guess bullies can't crush toadette, and the bully wasnt touching a wall so it didn't die, but with the thwomp pushing the bully even further it made toadette jump and at this instant the bully touched both the wall and the thwomp and got crushed
