Thank you so much for sharing this video series! Thanks to you, I could build my kit in about 6 hours, across 5 days. Some notes if you're interested: 1. I applied the initial black staining using acrylic black dye mixed with a lot of water - then I didn't need to sand it back, while the grains did come out significantly. 2. I used acrylic dyes mixed with water for the whole staining, including the neck and the back of the body. It dries very fast. 3. Used Elmer's wood glue, this is what they sell in my country. It dried overnight. 4. I managed with the supplied electronics and tuners. 5. I'm only frustrated with the flying v shape that partly blocks the access to the highest frets. 6. Overall, thanks to your comprehensive guidance, I could build a beautiful working electric guitar. It's my first time doing something like that, so it definitely isn't trivial. Thanks 🙂😀🎸

That should be a fun kit to build. My only "must do" recommendation is buy a better set of tuners. The ones that come with the kit are almost unusable. If you look at the series I posted, there is a link to the tuners I got off of ebay (or Amazon) Nice locking tuners for under$40

Pretty cool kit, I've been wanting to put together a guitar. I play bass and love my Thunderbird. The V is a guitar I have always been a big fan of. I think a burst would look cool, like yellow in the middle bursting to red and then bursting to the black edge, if that makes sense. Like a fire burst.

I would LOVE to talk with you about this kit. I recently built a Parker kit from them. I had parts missing and tons of extra packs of screws for who knows what. It took them 3 months to respond to me and when they did, I was told it was impossible for their kits to be anything but perfect. Impossible. Which is ridiculous of course but I'd love to know if you had any interactions with them.

Hey Bill, good to see you. the kit does not look too bad. i guess you can't sand too much on that top with that thin veneer. so with a white back, i'm thinking a light colored top. first i thought maybe a teal burst or fade but it's a Flying V; teal won't work. 😽 hmmm. OK, how about a burst with ice blue fading to white in the middle. whatever you come up with is going to look great. cpould you wind pickups if you were sent wooden pieces? i've been watching John Letts making wooden pickups on his basses and they look so good. maybe check out his vid on it and tell me what you think. if i do it it will be a while before i'm starting on that bass, but withing a few months surely.

I thought truss rods were supposed to be glued in so they do not move up/down or spin?
@billsguitargarage
@billsguitargarage Жыл бұрын
No, no need to glue in. If it is a 2 way truss rod like the one on this neck, the rod is taller then it is wide so it will not move in the slot. I checked the operation of it and it works perfectly

Should the truss rod not be anchored on the Glue joint end ???? How would it create tension otherwise Anchored on both ends ,,,, NO ?
@billsguitargarage
@billsguitargarage Жыл бұрын
No it is fine. It’s a duel action truss rod so no need to anchor the ends. The slot keeps it from rotating and the bow is generated by the duel action of the truss rod. Now, some of the vintage style truss rods do need to be anchored.

Hi Bill. I just ordered the bolt on version with the black binding and spalted maple top. Im hoping it arrives that it arrives a little quicker than yours and that it doesn't suck. lol Couple questions. Did they reach out aside from the order confirmation? If so, how long did that take? I think I'm going to try a Tru-Oil finish on mine. Im interested to see what upgrades you end up doing, and if standard Gibson/Epi bridge pieces jive with it if you go that route.

Hiya, No there was no communication other then order confirmation and shipping confirmation. I initially ordered mine on 7 Feb and got shipping notification on 17 March. The kit arrived about 7 to 10 days later. I think you'll be happy with it. As a guitar builder (several full build posted on my channel) I am happy with the kit overall. The spalted maple top will be really cool, but FYI.. The spalted top will be very soft (its just the nature of spalted wood) so be very carful when sanding the top as it will be very easy to sand through the veneer. And it will take a bunch of Tru-Oil coats to get the top wo a level even shine.
@glb5053
@glb5053 Жыл бұрын
Right on, Bill. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think I'm going to go for a satin-ish finish. Do you think the Tru-Oil will toughen up the top enough so that it's not super delicate? I don't think I want to sand the top too much at all if I don't have to. I know the veneers are super thin.

No, not al all. It is a duel acting truss rod and when I pushed it in, it seated very well and had no front or aft movement and had full adjustment both direction. I would absolutely not purchase a guitar kit from this company. When I unboxed the kit and reviewed the body and neck. the laminate was buckled in 2 places so it was impossible to glue back down and repair. The neck had scratches on it that were so deep they could not be sanded out. When I sent an email and complained about the state of the kit they ignored me for weeks. When I finally did receive a reply after 5 emails they informed me that if I wanted I could send it back (at my expense) and they would determine if they would replace it or refund my money. When I showed them the photos of the veneer buckling they said and I quote "This is a diy guitar kit, no sanding, no polishing, For this little issue, it can be fixed by some glue easily". Which of course it can't. Stay well clear of this company and purchase from a reputable company.

Also, it is missing some of the decals that were shown on the item detail photos, probably due to copyright issues. ******************* I have also had a terrible experience (and still am) with Ann Jiang of Pango Music. I paid for a finished guitar on 9-22-2019 and never received it. She kept giving excuse after excuse as to what was taking so long and at times seemed to taunt me by offering a different guitar and when I agreed, she'd then tell me that guitar was no longer available and then offer a different one, this went on for awhile until I realized I was getting played. I am very upset about the whole thing. At this point I'd be happy with a refund but at one point she said she cannot do that and now will not respond to any emails. I tried reporting this to the made in china heads of site but they tell me there's nothing they can do. I'm out $355 and very unhappy. By the way, the guitar I paid for was their model PYX-414, the Dimebag dixie rebel clone. I have 87 emails and paypal receipt to prove all of this. How sad/mad I am...
