Never been in a balloon but I have taken photos from a helicopter and a private plane. The helos were all landscapes and you have to remember that you and the helo are both moving. I was still shooting film on both occasions. I got to photograph humpback whales with calfs from a private plane in Hawaii. From the air is the only way to see the entire whale, unless you have one breech in front you. I did and was to aw struck to lift my camera. In the plane we could drop to an altitude of 1000 ft and used a 200 mm lense(all I had at the time) and could still almost fill the frame. Those shots were also on film in 2002. Excellent video for the scenery alone.

When we were there in August, Guts and Janine recommended just one camera body and a zoom lens with no lens hood. They suggested using our phones/GoPro for the wide shots. Our balloon ride was fun but fairly short due to higher winds.

This is on my to do list but gees imagine if something goes wrong with the hot air balloon and you land besides a pack of Lions you better have that Macro lens for some close ups hahahaha, Thanks for the video Sabine;)

Sabine, even for someone with a fear of heights, you made it look like an awesome experience. Perhaps I need to review my policy of never taking to the air in anything without an engine? 🤔

Beautiful video. Although I haven't done the hot air balloon ride over the mara, I have done a helicopter ride over Okavango delta, Botswana which was spectacular. I had used 24-120 F4 and 70-200 f2.8 lenses on that trip. What I found was that zooming in too much on the animals results in loss of unique perspective that one gets from being up in the air. The wider shots work much better and more representative of the experience. What is your opinion on this?

Very cool…I am afraid of heights, so I am not sure how well I would feel in a hot air ballon

For the Mavic 3 and run the DJI FLY App, which tablet does you recommend, taking into account the bright screen so we can fly in the sun and others. Thank you.

Had the pleasure to be in a hot air balloon in both Egypt (Valley of the Kings) and in Turkey (Cappadocia). Both times using an 18-135 on a Canon 80D. Wide enough to capture the before activities on the ground and long enough to get very nice shots in the air. We were never very high and the subjects were big enough so I didn't miss my longer lens. If I had been trying to get animal pictures, I would agree that a longer lens would be better since they tend to be rather small when seen from even moderate heights.

Thanks so much for your input Martin. Much appreciated! Perhaps you get to do one over the Mara too one day.
