Using the set button for ex/comp was a great blessing for me. I just could not figure out how to create a working solution for quick adjustments. I have just moved from AV mode to full manual early this year and as you point out, in manual both wheels have to be for aperture and SS. I move around a lot on foot with my normal bird shooting so the lighting conditions change often and quickly Ex/comp is my best friend. Now I can simply push set and roll on the aperture wheel and I can see my ex/comp in my viewfinder once again. Really a great big thankyou.

When you set your Star button and go to the different functions by pressing the info button and see Detail set. should you not also set the AF operation to AISERVO ???

Just an FYI, the R5 (and the R6 may) has the ability to do the single button remembered shooting modes as well (the panning shot mode). I use it the same way Charl does, slow shutter pans at a moments notice. I first heard of it from one of the Canon VPs sharing how they shoot when the R5 was released.

I have a Canon 5D mark III and shooting manual mode auto ISO. Why can't I set exposure compensation in this mode? Is it a setting or a limitation of the camera?

Hi Charmain its the limitation of your camera. The 5D mark 4 can do it. But you can use exposure compensation if you shoot in AV or TV, then it will work.

Hi Liam. That is a difficult question as it all depends on the shooting mode you are in. Are you shooting in Aperture priority, Shutter priority or Manual with Auto ISO? It most probably is due to some restriction you have set on your camera. If you shoot Manual with Auto ISO this could be the ISO that is limited to a min value and therefore it can't give you a darker image. Or you have selected a too low shutter speed/aperture combination and you lowest native ISO value 100 is reached. The only way your camera can give you a darker image then is if you increase shutter speed and/or aperture. In the other modes it could also be a restriction of shutter speed set in the menu. So your best bet is going through your menu and see if there are such restrictions. Hope this helps. I am away for a few days but happily chat to you again as soon as I am back next week!

Pangolin Wildlife Photography Thank you again for the info and reply. I just set up my 1DX iii with the two back button focus buttons with different focus points. Also the front multi function buttons for image playback and magnifying. I already had it set up as you described for the exposure composition. Really enjoy all of Pangolin’s videos and that they use the entire crew for their expertise and skills for explaining tips and tricks. Fred :)

HI Charl - Great advice. However while I can assign a separate focus area on my 1DX Mk II as you demonstrate using the star button, I can't achieve the same on the 1DX (Mk1). It will only allow my to customise the AF-ON button. Is it me? The manual does say "If the INFO icons appears at the bottom" which in my case it doesn't. Is it me?

Hi Richard maybe try firmware update on the 1DX 1 and see if that helps.

I really like your videos that are allowing me to fully customze my Canon 7D mark II and be much more productive. I've programmed the * button to access the extended one point focus. However if I want to use this extended focus point using the * buttom, I must keep this buttom press all time. If I remove my finger from it the focus option automatically changes to the previously configured one. Should this button work like that? Or is it working different in your 1DXII?

Hello Santiago Giralt. Thank you for watching! I have a 7DMkII as well and it works. If you are in AI Servo mode the star button only focuses once pressed and keeps focusing. If you let go focus will be locked at the last achieved point you focused so yes it won't display the selected AF area anymore. It's the same on my 7D2. Hope this makes sense?

I got nervous watching you hold your expensive gear over water without a neck strap. After accidentally dropping my camera once I always use a strap when i shoot. (Fortunately it was indoors on a hard floor. Ruined the lens but the body survived.)
