Hats off and huge respect for this man for acknowledging, facing and confronting not only his troubles, challenges and illness, but also standing up to society's cliche expectations and stigmatizations. As a great musician, he brought happy times to our lives, but beyond that he is an even more inspirational human being.

Fair play to Duff revealing his story on mental health. He is so honest about his struggles and how incredibly difficult mental health issues are for a man's sense of masculinity. His honest story is helping thousands of men confront their own mental struggles. They say, helping others is the best way mentally to help yourself. Great guy and I wish him all the happiness and health.

Had insane 4 hr panic attacks in my twenties. Resulted in agoraphobia and alcoholism. I was broken. Then someone gave me a tip. Let it happen. Just..... let it happen. Tell yourself, "I have time, i have time for this panic attack, let's do it." Instead of "OMG IMG OMG NO NO NOOOO!" It killed them forever. I still get a quick onset rush maybe once a year, but it doesn't matter, because I remember to not fight it, just let it happen. Then I began to think positively in general. This changed my whole body chemistry. Anyways good luck to all of you! Don't fear! Fear is the fuel! You can beat it. PERIOD.

Panic attacks are absolutely paralyzing! Sweaty palms lightheaded dizzy my legs tremble like bambi, a huge fear is passing out. It is the worst feeling and knowing your mind is making this all happen physically is hard to grasp. I thought I was dying the first one I had at work, Im a hair stylist and was on break and BOOM it hit and I told the girl I wasn't ok and she told me breathe and got water, in my head I was thinking I'm dying call 911. I did go to the ER that day and it was a panic attack. I've been through trauma and I am at a point where its hard for me to even leave my house now. I know I can't keep going this way. I'm overwhelmed with things and its hard to know where to begin. For me I was always a worrier but my first panic attack I was 26, and I went years where I was fine. I'm 45 now and man this is the worst its ever been. Listening to both of you talk openly is so HUGE! THANK YOU AND SO MUCH LOVE TO YOU BOTH!

@@richardramsey5839 I went for my first one when I was about 26 years old. I just was divorced, I broke my foot and was casted, my mom was sick and had 2 brain tumors removed, and also was hit by a drunk driver. I had some weird head injuries that one is permanent, vestibular nerve damage left ear. That's your balance and all that kind of stuff. I was a wreck, I thought stroke tumor, you name it. It built up to where I went into work and went in backroom and told my boss came back, I started just crying I can't do this. I am not a crier, I hate it. I can't go out there with clients I can't. She tried to get me to take 2 months off, and I do hair, and I said I cant take 2 months off. So I ended up 2 to 3 weeks and started counseling. I danced with studio still and competed that was gone, lifetime of it from 3 years old. Dr put me on stuff to get me through this point. He asked me do you feel like its Dooms Day and I said yes. I won't ever forget how powerful that question was. I took antidepressant idk 2 or 3 months. I wouldn't touch the xanax, my boss goes one day just take the damn thing. I did and it helped. I always kept that in check. I went years fine no panic no anxiety. I learned how to manage it. My mom passed when I was 32 and that one was a big hit, I still managed to be ok through those years. Now I'm in a different phase of life, Salon owner, alot of life changing things have happened and all of it is in my face right now and I don't know how to fix anything this time. A huge overwhelming feeling. I am having bad anxiety panic at night. Sorry I didn't mean to write a novel but somehow maybe needed to see it written out? I don't know

My daughter has Duff’s book , actually she has all of the members books and I think that helped her out a lot with her anxiety. My kid is a great musician, guitar drums and now clarinet. I think hearing this from your peers and someone so famous that he (Duff) didn’t have to tell all but he bared his soul and that in turn is going to help a lot of people with this huge struggle. Lilly you’re amazing! And a natural at interviewing people and getting so deep! Keep up the good work! You can be your generation’s Oprah! 🙏💕🙋🏻‍♀️

Huge respect to Duff, he knows all about depression having been "the one" to last see Kurt Cobain before his suicide and being aware of how sad Kurt was but didn't have the tools or knowledge to help him at the time, he said he could feel Kurt pleading for help in his eyes as he took that last fateful glance towards his greenhouse 😔

Thank you, Lily, for this type of interview. You have a very good style about you because you listen and come across as very pleasant and you care. This has made me want to learn more about anxiety. The general public have no idea about this, the word 'anxiety' to people who don't suffer from it or are directly affected from it think it is just a stronger form or 'worrying'. Congratulations for doing something that IS actually changing the world in a small way.

I had these fobia's too, but completely lost them when I read Carl Gustav Jung. People with fobia's tend to control their lives in such a strict way, that they immediatly panic if they are in a situation in which they don't control anything. The solution is to loose control in your personal life, not demanding anything. Then, when you are in an uncontroled environment, the anxiety is not there anymore. It worked for me and it could work for you.

Lilly has a pretty smile, she's gonna soak up a lot of game from these OGs. There's a very advantageous benefit to speaking 1 on 1 in heart-to-heart conversations w/ older people when you yourself are young. It might not be evident immediately, but when you yourself gradually get older, those lessons are already stored in your mental hard drive. Great that these guys are willing to speak to her and wisen her up to the world so that she can have that information stored.

For a guy that has gone trough all this rocknroll life and rehabs and whatnot he seems pretty oblivious. Vodka has 0 sugars. Also nobody drinks 11 bottles of vodka per day. Nobody. I've been a heavy drinker and drug abuser for 25 years and vodka was always my drink. I've seen many rotten people but very few could drink more than me. The most I've ever drank per night on speed was like 3 bottles of vodka and 5-6 beers and now I dont how I got past that. I've seen guys die after 3 bottles. 11 is just impossible, especially for a skinny guy like this no matter the tolerance.

Thankyou guys and girls. Open conversation about panic attacks helps us all. Im sorry to hear Duff and others struggled with panic attacks. For me it was the most scariest thing in the world. During a Work meeting. It just hit me, I had to get up and leave. Spent half hr in toilet and the tried to go back but NAh. I ran out of the office walked to city. I felt like i was dying. Called partner she drove me home. I had no Idea what was happenning to me. So I drank. Spoke to a doctor eventually figured it was Depression and Anxiety disorder. Got the right meds but I was already binge drinking, so meds dont work. Im artistic and 3D modeler, but i havent worked for 15YRS. Still self medicating. Rehab 12 times. For me now its all about being part of a tribe. Dont stay alone. REACH OUT!! Thankyou Marjorie and Duff. Your words are gold.

I hope he truly understands what a huge impact he has been on so many people like myself not only in his GnR's days, but even more so today, having become the amazing Man that he is. I believe that he is exactly right, when he has spoken about how he believes that his experiences must have been"meant to be".. he is "our" gift, our reason to be able to live, and understand what we know to be "our panic attacks or depression.. he has given so many of us " hope", and a reason to move on".. I love you Duff!! Thank you! 🙏🏻❤️ And you're doing such a wonderful job sweetheart! You hang in there and keep doing what you're doing! Hard alcoholics often develop diabetes due to the sugar in liquor, even though you don't taste it, the average bottle of PLAIN vodka has a TON of sugar in it!. I've never met anyone who could drink more than a half gallon of vodka (Duff claims two) regardless, all of these people were in and out of the hospital for pancreatitis, though I've never had it and it's very painful they say, let alone having ones pancreas rupture as in Duff's case.. I on the other hand had been hospitalized with malnutrition, iron deficient anemia and a failing liver from drinking a handle (half gallon) a day at the end of my drinking career!.…

For me, it just seems to have to wear off. In my past, in can take anywhere from 3-6 months. I read a book that had a technique that seemed to be really effective. That is.................letting the panic attacks come. Don't fear them. They will fade. Diet is really important leaning towards a lower carbohydrate diet. Eliminating caffeine and sugar. Hope some of this might help someone. Panic attacks are awful.

I've always identified with Duff, when I was newly sober he had an appearance on Joey Diaz's podcast that left an impact. I had a similar experience with my first panic attack, but mom didn't take me to the hospital. I also later discovered that alcohol worked extremely well for anxiety, until it doesn't. When you're drinking vodka for breakfast panic attacks become the least of your problems. I still struggle with panic and anxiety and the depression it creates, but fortunately I've managed to learn to deal with it without alcohol. So far anyway (closing in on 6 years). Thank you for this podcast, I hope it helps many others.

Shame. Yes! I'm so glad to hear him say this. We have panic attacks for reasons- at the time very unbeknownst to us, until we finally realize we have been thru some serious shit. My first also landed me in the ER at 23. Fast forward 40 years- I could write a book, but his journey is very much like mine. So scary. After much therapy I realized I'm fighting the affects of life long Narcissistic abuse from my birth person. I also have CPTSD. Today, after a lot of work with my therapist, I feel healthy, and normal. I still have the occasional panic attack, but have an arsenal of skills to get thru them.like Duff says, I have had different types of attacks, worse, some recently d/t extreme stress in my life, one that landed me back in the ER, because during a meditation, I had pain going down my left arm, and you're supposed to go the the Er for that, right? I never could have imagined laying in the ER with stroke level b/p, heart rate, and nothing is working! I felt such despair! After a couple doses of beta blocker, I was good to go home, but it was another day before my body evened out again. So, I went back to another therapist a couple times, and got it all figured out, and made a plan to deal and set boundaries, but damn! It's so important to others that people like Duff can speak out on this and help others, cause so many more people are out there thinking they're the only ones. I'm glad I stumbled upon this Lilly, thank you, and many blessings to you and Duff ❤

I had my first panic attack at age 16 - 17... I was at a gf place... I was sitting on her bed i remember and just reading mickey mouse and Donald duck magazines and i looked to the side seeing her sister walked by and then Whoooooomp.... The floor opened and i felt like i was falling and totally out of it and panic set in... Totally out of it... This was during the mid 1990's i had no idea what had happened to me... I was out of it most of the day and it let go when her father drove her and me home to my place... I was like"... Thank god it let go... I never told her or anyone.. but that was the frist time. Needless to say i been abusing nicotine and alcohol since i was 14 years old... And then you think back as a kid to 13... Wow i never had these problems when i did not smoke or drink....

Fuck me, he wouldn't want to have one of those full tilt floor dropping panic attacks whilst on stage in front of 50,000 people! Wouldn't be a good place to get overly paranoid either.

She looks so much like her daddy. It is nuts. I never seen her mother before. I love these bands they are associated with. It is just I have never been a follower minded type enough to follow people and their so lives. But looking at Lily, man it is just like looking at her dad and listening to him. I am a person who as suffers from the same thing at life, and but it is not so much a panic attack. But the innate depression as going on is the same, and I need to get myself onto or into something. But it all feels so miserable there sometimes. It is a hard ride. As I do not want to kill myself, but sometimes there feels like there is no other way to be free from it all, but just to die. I am helped by hearing this talk.

Trying to get help with mental health issues like anxiety in my home town is harder than getting a record deal. If you are under 18 there’s little support, past from pillow to post, once you know or love someone dealing with this nightmare you quickly understand the struggle to even face the day. Great that you both are highlighting this out in the open for all to listen, understand, share the experience and gain knowledge. I remember Duff getting sober I believe he was a great inspiration to Slash who had his problems with drug and alcohol abuse back in the day, Cool that two people of different generations can show it’s not age related, it’s real and we need to take it serious. All schools need to wake up and have a support system in place to help their student excel on an equal playing field. Same for the work place. Doctors need to know the signs and if they don’t then listen send the patients quickly for diagnosis, support and relative treatment. Great conversation but what happened to the boat?
