I saw the Diamond Dogs concert in Cleveland, and it was the most remarkable popular music show I ever attended. The set, props, the band, the dancers, and David were just unbelievable. It was a cabaret show on a Broadway set with the best rock musicians. However, I'll never understand why he did not plan ahead and make a concert film of Diamond Dogs for posterity. The Stones, Led Zeppelin and others had produced concert films. Why Bowie, a very smart guy, was remiss leaves me nonplused.

I was at that show in Cleveland too!!! So memorable!! Were you also at the Young Americans tour just a few months later? Also at Public Hall...Bowie only performed for 45 minutes and never came back for an encore. Thought there would be a riot!!!! We were PISSED!!!
@ARIZJOE4 жыл бұрын
@@RollaSu I had tickets to the show you mention. However, I had to give them up because I had an organic chemistry test a few days later at Ohio State. Nonetheless, I still regret not seeing Luther Vandross perform. The following "Thin White Duke" show was really good.

He also messed up a bit by not licensing his songs for inclusion in the movie VELVET GOLDMINE, but rumoor has it he was thinking of doing his own movie. But he never did.

Absolutely was Amazing, at the Public Hall …I remember he was first act to ever break the $7 barrier in C town and we were pissed until of course we saw the show which was one of shortest I ever saw and it just didn’t matter when they turned the lights on and it was over ..ever the Showman he left the stunned crowd wanting More !!

@bluesam1959 thanks, me too listerned to it to death, was always my favourite version, guitar rift, and drum solo was what pulled me in, then i was a massive Bowie anyway, saw his last live gig at wembley arena, as it was then in 76. then when he came back with that serious moonlight tour back in 81 saw him perform at the MK bowl, way before his time. my brother who is no longer with us, had the oportunity to see bowie in 68 perfom only his guitar and also on the same night one Marc Bolen

Holy mackerel the legend Mick Ronson playing on this little amp he called, the pig. The guitar tone on Panic in Detroit was actually a smaller amp than “The Pig”. Interestingly enough, Mick still always sounded like Mick. He approached amps the same - whether he was using a small Fender amp or a full stack of Marshalls. The character changed a little, but his voice came through loud and clear.

No doubt this song is about the 1967 riots in Detroit. The city never recovered. Take a trip down Grand River from 8 Mile to Jefferson Ave. and take a good look. There has been "Panic in Detroit" for years. Great song, and prophetic....

Watch the KZbin clip of Bowie on The Cher show from 1974. Most of it is pretty cheesy, but it's fun to watch. At one point Bowie does a pose which John Revolta ripped off 4 years later for Saturday Night Fever. I comment about it in the comments section too. A lot of artists ripped off Bowie because he was so multi-talented!

Sorry m8 to piss on your chips but this is deff from Diamond Dogs 1974 Tour part one.Both the audio and 8 mm film are from Diamond Dogs tour not the following Soul Tour that became known as Philly Dogs. Bowie Ditched the DD set just after the September LA shows that were used to film the great Cracked actor documentary for the BBC, also David Live was recorded on the Diamond Dogs tour part one July 74

I asked and here it is panic in Detroit. I talked with some guy in LA a year or so ago and he said Detroit's still a huge mess as of 2015 and 20k for a mansion isn't a good deal because it's all full of worms. Buy into Detroit it's for land value. That's sort of the gist of this Bowie song. Los Angeles land sells for about 50 bucks per square foot good deal get it while you can. The County tax people want all your money. Panic in stinkin' Detroit.
