Keep your money in c fund and never look at it. I know people have and have over a million . I moved in and out of c and g fund for 35 years and only have 400 thousand

I never invested in anything other than the G fund. I have a million in the tsp. Sleep great every night, never though about the stock market even once. NOW, at 59.5 I moved my TSP to Fidelity with Tbills paying 5.4% and MYGA's paying 5.6% to provide an income stream from which I can THEN dollar cost average my excess into the stock market over the next 20 years.

I moved most of my money to the G two years prior to retirement. I was losing in the C, S, and I. My gut said move most of my money to G and leave some in C and S. I am not at my $$ goal but feel good about my decision.

Running to the G fund is never a good idea

Im 95% C fund and 5% S fund. There was 4 months a year ago where i tried to time things and went G fund. I realized it was a mistake and put it all back to C and S and will leave it for my last 20 years. So my advice, move all your money back into C fund like yesterday. Stay forever. G fund will absolutely kill you over time.

You have to take a loss in a bad market but during that time I'm buying 2-4 times the shares so when it rebounds I get a huge return. In 2009 i lost twenty thousand but I stayed and bought those shares pennys on the dollar. In a few years I made that money back 4 times fold.

I'm 3 years retired, all in the G for now. Was in the miliion $$ club, but lost $50K in C fund first 6 months of Biden administration. Don't need the money yet. G fund making about 4%.

4.75% this month is good with me. In the G 100% A guaranteed $130 every day is a winner.

Was in the g fund for a couple years, expecting to retire soon. Now I've decided to work for 3 more years, so I've moved my funds the one of the L funds. It's doing fairly well.

Over the decades I’ve read multiple times that trying to time the market is a recipe for failure. Even if you miss the ‘rebound’ by a week or two it would cancel out any benefit over just staying in. As for holding bonds to soften any downturns, I ran the numbers for 90% C Fund / 10% F Fund for 30 years with $12K investment each year and C returning 10% on average and bonds returning 5% on average and the result was a loss of $538K below that if you had just stayed 100% in the C Fund. OVER HALF A MILLION less in your retirement account!!! Let that sink in! There will be huge swings with a 100% C Fund, but you just have to mentally accept this and that over the long term, stocks will produce a much, much better return.

Getting out of the C fund when it tanked a few years ago and getting back in now when it's reaching near record highs is the exact opposite of the BUY LOW, SELL HIGH motto. It's BUY HIGH, SELL LOW which is a recipe for disaster. I'm only a few years from retirement and I still have all my TSP in C, S and I funds.

If your 59.5 you can roll over your tsp to appropriate ira or roth ira brokerage account that your money is currently assigned to. You will have much more options to invest in then the tsp offers. Brokers can get you 5-5.5% in a cd for 1 month, 3 month,6month, 9 months ,1 year even as far out as 4 years at almost 5%. I know its still low but tsp can't do that without risk. Just make sure you have the same ira as your tsp transfer is. If tsp is roth the roth goes to a roth ira, if the tsp is conventional it goes to a normal ira.
