Thanks mate for the reviews of the Ducati Panigale, I've now watched all your vids in this series, and you've helped me make up my mind. I'm looking for a sports ride, both for road and track days, and will be adding the Panigale to my garage. All your vids are exceptionally informative, and well produced. Beautiful bike you own. I like the way you senseful upgrade it step by step. I also mounted the Ducati Performance radiator guard and 3M transparency films on the tank. It took me two evenings to install the three sheets - quite hard job but very satisfying. I also ordered some quite nice wheel rim stickers as you can see on my avatar - maybe this could be also something you like to have on your 899 Panigale. Compliments from Germany

The 899 is a beautiful bike. Certainly 10 out of 10 in the looks department. It was interesting for me to note that you said you enjoyed the ride up to Donington about as much as the actual track day. I hope I get on with the sports bike riding position as well as you have. I guess there's only one way to find out! I heard that the 899 riding position is a little more roomier than some of its competitors. I'll have to hop on it one of these days.

I am looking forward to a 959 Panigale in a few months time. Liked your review of that model. Together with a few other Vloggers, you have made me feel my choice was the right one. So now all I can do is to wait for spring to come, watching KZbin...lots of Indian entries surprisingly. And if you're sorry that your costs run high...In Denmark a new 959 Panigale will set you back 35 000 €...I know it's ludicrous - but what can we do?! I saved a few bob getting a demo model however, so I love to see someone minding the break-in period.

Hi great review I bought my 899 new sept '15 (65 plate bought after seeing the 959 online) but lucky for me I managed to get the termi's thrown in foc, I've done 5000 miles on it done track days and travelled around Spain on it and have loved owning it. Bring your bike to MCT in Stowmarket to get the suspension setup and the rear shock rebuilt as there's a known problem with them, had mine done last April and makes great bike a hell of a lot better well worth the money.

Great video TMF, your comprehensive cost breakdown removes all the guess work! I'm guessing in the case of this bike you are considering it as a (potential) investment, would be hard for most mortals to justify the costs considering the very modest mileage you have covered with the 899! In reality probably cheaper to service than your freelander, though I imagine you use that considerably more! cheers tony

TheMissendenFlyer SW Motech Blaze pannier kit.. excellent gear. I considered the Ventura system but it leaves you with an unsightly bar arrangement. The Blaze bars demount when not required leaving you with a subtle bracket fixed to the rear foot peg hanger.

That you still recommend the bike is great to hear. I've had my 1199 for almost five years now, and I, too, look forward to riding it every time. Unlike you, however, I've had a variety of mechanical problems with mine. How many of those problems were Ducati's fault and how many were my (Ducati) dealer's fault...we could talk about that.
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
Interesting - what sort of problems have you had then? Minor niggles or major PITAs?? Given the short comings it's similarly interesting to see that you still love yours! It's funny what you'll put up with when you've got a pretty face to forgive isn't it....
@Gravitys-NOT-a-force8 жыл бұрын
My 2012 1199 Panigale was probably one of the first off the assembly line, but this is a list of the mechanical issues I've had as they come to mind: "excessive" play in the right front brake rotor; air in the clutch hydraulic line; excessive engine heat from under the seat; worn front and rear chain sprockets; loose swing-arm axle - the axle was slowly moving sideways; and an electrical issue (an electrical part that failed and had to be replaced). Those are the significant issues only one of which, notably, required that the bike be towed to the shop for repair. There have been some other less significant/expensive issues too.

Hello Missenden, did you do a 2 year review? I've just ridden my 899 from Phnom Penh to Hanoi, a 7 day trip - 2,300km over 6 riding days (1 day in Vientaine to get a visa) and through 4 countries (Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam). Some very heavy rain in Thailand, even a flood at Mukdarah, and riding around lots of twisty mountain roads in Laos. Great bike - never missed a beat.
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Yes I did....and wow, that's quite a trip on a sports bike...how did your back fare??
@quynhkhanh20726 жыл бұрын
There were some long days - Day 01 @ 680km over 14 hours and lots of rain in Cambodia and Thailand - a bit spooky on Diablo Corse tyres. My back was fine - i do a lot of martial arts training which is good for core strength. My wrists, especially my right wrist were my nemesis. But the bike was great. I didn't have a special luggage thing, so i just strapped a small bag on the back - next time i'll get a luggage thing.

Hi TMF, fab bike, and I understand choosing the 899 over the 959 for the reasons you give. I'll spare you my regular lack of lacquer whinge, but while I'm on the topic of paint... the colour of the red comes out badly in your vids particularly indoors (fluorescent lighting, I guess). On your vids, the anodised brake reservoirs look like a real match, but I've seen the actual ones (not on your bike) and it's a much better match irl. Anything you can do to improve the colour balance, and show your bike in it's true colours? Cheers.

The Daytona is a lovely machine - but I promise you the Pani is much quicker (150bhp) and in my opinion looks better....I do love the Trumpet though, I have a Street Triple 675 myself and love the thing....

I am torn between this and the upcoming Supersport S! The panigale has the looks that will be remembered for years to come but the Supersport is probably the better fit for my needs (weekends in the canyons). What to do?! I wonder if a test ride will be enough to make my decision?

Hi, let me start by saying that your videos are very well done. I am a fan! Have question on the clutch/brake levers you got on eBay. Did they come with the tiny actuator pistons or did you reuse the factory pistons? Did you have any issues installing them? I ordered a pair for my Panigale 959 and didn't get the pistons with them. I tried to use the factory piston, but it didn't fit into the cylinder. I tried only the clutch side though. Any input would be great. Thanks.
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
Hi Harry - this is one of the reasons you never saw a a video of me installing them! Unlike every other bike I've changed levers on, these were a pain because of those pistons - in the end I got the dealer to install them when it was in for the 600 mile service 'cos I couldn't get them to fit....

Just a quick question TMF (hope you don't mind the millions of questions!) - Why do you put a block of wood under the side stand?

Just to get it more upright for video purposes - otherwise the side near the camera would be leant over a fair bit and you wouldn't see so much of the bike...

Not hugely, the two bikes are completely different in feel when you ride them - although I agree I do sometimes have to make a choice between which I'm taking on a Sunday blast (as they do both overlap a bit in that category). The overlap isn't enough to make me sell one or the other though, I love both these bikes....

@TheMissendenFlyer What mirrors do you have? I need foldable mirrors for my 959, nice video
@TheMissendenFlyer5 жыл бұрын
They're the standard Ducati ones that came on the 899 - when they moved to the 959 that was one of the casualties, the original 1199 had the foldable mirrors too, so much more practical than the non folders!
@pablononpicasso19778 жыл бұрын
Nice rundown on the 899, Ta. Costs will be steeper in the first year with extra work on installing the carbon hugger and first service, so probably a standard year will be about 30-40% less i reckon. I was looking at an 899 myself late last 2016 but bought a roadworthy insurance auction 959 (1000 miles only) which I've nearly got ready. They are both lovely machines and the 959 starts on the button every time which the Panigale have a reputation for. For a sports bike they aren't cramp monsters. Cheers MF

Cheers Paul - hope you get on ok with the 959....(I'm sure you will, awesome machines these)...

For all Panigale's like your 899 I'd recommend RG Lockstop Savers for Ducati 899/1199/1299 Panigale (£13.33 each ex. VAT). The lock stop snap easily with any sort impact force which means you have to replace your triple tree base even fora low speed crunch. A triple tree base is about £250 at your end plus all the work stripping and rebuilding the front end. I've had to do this to pass an engineering certificate for my 959 so the saver will reduce the snapping of the weak lock stop off in most cases, a known flaw. Cheers!

Hmm, good tip - will look into that - cheers Paul

Blimey TMF you must have a few bob given the number of bikes and cars you own but you come across as a nice fella so what's not to like. As I have told you before I love my GS but I can see why you like the Duke. It really is a bike you could just have sitting in the front room on display. I think the trouble I would have if I owned one would be riding it at sensible speeds on the road so track days are definitely a good idea. I was also surprised how cheap the annual charge is for a Tracker can you confirm this and is there an initial outlay as well. Already looking forward to the next posting. Regards Jealous Ted ha ha

Yes it does get very hot but here in the UK it's not generally an issue (in fact a positive this time of year!). On a very hot day it would be tiresome on a 3-4 hour ride, but I imagine my skeleton would be complaining long before my burning backside after that time on the Pani.....

A mechanical lock as well? I use a deterrent lock when leaving the bike in town for shopping etc., but, I feel if someone really wants to steal it, they will/can. The idea of taking a 30kg(excuse the hyperbole) padlock & chain is impractical. Do you think its safer leaving a bike in a 'bike space' found in a car park, probably secluded, or, a more busy city centre area?
