According to legend, Guru Nanak and his companion, Bhai Mardana, arrived in Hasan Abdal during their travels. The town was suffering from a severe water shortage, as the local water source was controlled by a powerful and egotistical saint, Wali Qandhari.Wali Qandhari refused to share water with the thirsty Guru Nanak and Bhai Mardana. In response to Mardana’s desperate plea, Guru Nanak asked him to pray and trust in the divine. Guru Nanak then moved a rock, and to everyone's astonishment, a fresh spring of water gushed forth, providing much-needed relief to the parched locals.Infuriated by this divine intervention, Wali Qandhari hurled a large boulder towards Guru Nanak. With his divine power, Guru Nanak stopped the boulder with his hand, leaving an imprint on the rock. This handprint, or "panja," became a symbol of divine power and compassion. Over time, the site where the miracle occurred became known as Panja Sahib.
