I love how complicated engineering is to the point we go above and beyond to pull off one move in service of dynamics that the one plugin we use all the time could've done if u just clicked that one button you forgot existed. another day in the life

Yeap; all day every day; "aha" moments thinking we're an einstein to only realise; it's been thought of and done before :P

Another tool I use extensively for this application when limited to stereo files or even stems when stem mastering is split EQ from eventide. With this you can expand the concept up the freq spectrum. Ex if you have too much decay or verb in upper mids, (from snares, synths etc) you can reduce that without reducing the initial transient & vice a versa👌🏻

This tutorial was exactly what I needed. Awesome work here! I look forward to you future tutorials (perhaps something on virtual pianos or Rhodes - a lot of pop songs use fake ones, but they sound so good).

Great suggestion! To be honest; that's not something I work with a great deal on! But if something comes up in a session; I will certainly share!

I can recommend the ones found in the Nord keyboards. As well as the ones in the new Akai MPC Key 61. Some incredibly detailed pianos and Rhodes. The ones in the Akai is also very customizable. Good stuff

Have you heard of Spiff and SplitEQ, and tried them? I believe they can be used in things like the example in the video and am wondering what are your thoughts on these plugins when it comes to said example as a mastering engineer when comparing em to Pro MB.

I heard the difference tremendously in the before and after. When initially hearing the song unmastered I would've not heard that being problem but more so as a creative style of the song. My question is how do you identify what's the problematic parts in the mix before you start mastering, does it come down to training your ears and having experience or do you listen to a few reference tracks to compare what you want the master to sound like?
@panorama_mastering2 жыл бұрын
Both ears and experience; in this example; I know from experience leaving the kick like this would only get messier when I started pushing volumes; potentially distorting/breaking up the final master; so as soon as I heard it I knew I needed to deal with it upfront;
@INeedsMoneys2 жыл бұрын
I think the whole sidechain thing is unnecessary and even counterproductive. You don't really want the whoosh of the kick to be ducking at the time of the transient of the kick. You want the whoosh to be ducking at the time the whoosh is wooshing. Nonetheless it became better in the end but i reckon it would have been even better and faster without the sidechain.
@panorama_mastering2 жыл бұрын
Haha the results matter ;) That's why there's a slower attack; I find whenever I do it without the side-chain it's harder to dial in/less flexible;
@INeedsMoneys2 жыл бұрын
@@panorama_mastering aaah, i see your point. You can remove attack on the signal but not add attack. So better to sidechain with something punchier and then dial back attack to taste. Valid point ☝️ didn't think of that
