Bwahahaha! The Barack Obama being knighted bit, though! 😂 I know this podcast is from last year, but, being a US citizen, there's quite a bit I would have totally chimed in on if I was there! Relating to the last parts about how in comparison to the more factual, truthful way the Germans teach history and how the British almost sugar coat the history--it's similar to why a lot of Americans don't exactly take accountability for essentially stealing the land from Native Americans. I mean, we learn about Columbus "discovering" America and then the British and Spaniards sailing to the States taking over. We learn about Native American tribes who have been in the States long before being invaded; and, we do learn how these colonists drove out, battled with, enslaved, and killed Native Americans. Yet, despite knowing the horrendous things they did to these Natives, Americans pretty much still believe the land was always theirs, calling these men "The Founding Fathers" and so forth (then again I also don't know what or if they've changed any of that in history classes nowadays since I was in elementary/middle school in the 90s-00s). But, in retrospect, the way they taught it to at least my generation, was almost this way of saying, "Yeah, these people were here but we're going to make it better so, therefore, it IS our land." It's almost teaching young minds that it was this sort of justifiable reason to take over and claim the land from the Native Americans. I honestly think it's partly why we still have these insane super conservative white supremacists around and why taking the land from the Native Americans is still a fairly touchy subject to debate about or talk about at all. There's definitely a level of denial in it all. Anyway, sorry for the long ass rant haha (especially in comparison to all the Robert Sheehan fan comments, who, I am a fan of)! 😅I just find outsiders' perceptions and queries about the States interesting and I often discuss these things with my family in Toronto (my home away from California). Plus, being an educator, all the comments about education and what is or isn't being taught to us, especially about history, is always something I talk about and advocate for, obviously. But, great podcast! Thanks, for the laughs! You got me subscribing to ya!
