Robert acts the fool a lot, but when you get him talking about his craft he’s so extremely focused, erudite, and thoughtful. You can tell he really puts a lot of work into his roles and takes it more seriously than he lets on. That’s why his performances are always mind-blowing. Is it just me, or does the interviewer seem slightly alarmed by him at times? 😂
@LisaKokx
@LisaKokx 5 жыл бұрын
What I really like about Robert is his authenticity. In interviews he is predominantly witty and eccentric, in this podcast his answers are more thoughtful (I appreciate your style of asking questions, giving people the space they need to make it their own), but whoever he’s talking to and whatever he’s talking about, he seems to be comfortable enough to express things without an obvious filter. Now, I don’t know what he’s like in daily life, but I like to think that he’s not afraid to be himself wherever he is. And although I seem to adore his way of thinking, his sense of humor, his boldness, charisma etc., nothing is more enchanting than listening to someone and feeling like they are genuinely, unapologetically themselves. I tend to massively overthink things so you’re probably thinking “what the flying fuck is she on about”, but I wanted to say this nontheless. As someone who’s always been the odd one out (with the generosity of people’s judgments granting me embarrassingly low self-esteem and crippling social anxiety), seeing someone be that confident in their own skin, and knowing that that's the kind of person I look up to the most, gives me the power and affirmation I so desperately needed to build myself up and start living a bit more each day.

I’m seeing a lot of comments about how much more interesting this sit down is over other interviews/podcasts, and hey credit where it due, Rob is a really interesting and intelligent guy, but this kind of organic ease only comes from one thing-the interviewer. Too many people underestimate the work that goes into bringing out the best in a guest, and providing entertainment for a normal-length interview, let alone an hour+ podcast!

He's great in Umbrella Academy. I think though, he has more to show. You know how you can sense that with some people. He seems to be a complicated mix of aloof yet passionate, goofy and maybe a little depressed. It's funny but sometimes flamboyant people are really just sensitive and shy but hide that with 'flair'. Either way, he's beautiful and one to watch.

I know this comment is 3 years old, I hesitated to reply but why not.I see much of my personality in Robert. Reading that comment I felt like I was reading about myself, and my dad. Crazy how certain people can be so eccentric, sensitive, outgoing, unique, charming, strange...yet deeply melancholic all at the same time 🤍 I used to cry and hate myself for who I am, but when I see people like Robert, I'm reminded it's okay to be different.

he's cute, and thoughtful and funny in this interview, but I get a different vibe from him than I do in some other interviews I have seen him in. It's interesting, but I don't know why, maybe here he's more rested, or it's something else I can't determine. The tone of his voice makes it seem like he's reading from his autobiography haha. I really like his acting in the Umbrella academy.

awesome interview, really relaxed and authentic vibe, as opposed to all those cringy promo ones actors are made to do all the time. also, upon watching endless amount of interviews with robert over the years, i realize that his seemingly quirky funny annoying persona sometimes makes it harder to see that he is actually a very smart, eloquent, sensible and sensitive thinker.

Something that I noticed which, obviously I can’t be certain of I don’t know him personally, but made me really sad was the way he switched throughout talking about his ex girlfriend. It’s something I do a lot so he got really serious and you could tell his hurt and pain and then he suddenly switches to being all happy and jokey. It’s a common coping mechanism that’s a mix of avoiding bad feelings and also a genuine personality trait. But anyway just something interesting I picked up on.

Yes, there is such coping mechanism, but i don't think that's what he did. He answered the question about his ex, and answered quite sincerely, so going immediately to jokes was his way of saying 'please dont ask any more questions on this topic, I don't want to go in further details'. I think it's all that was.

I think this is the best Robert Sheehan interview I've seen and heard so far( and I've heard A LOT ). So I must say, the interviewer did a great job with this one. Rob seems genuinely honest talking about vulnerable stuff, yet rounding them up on a goofy note. And that's what I exactly love about Robert, he is not afraid to be himself infront of the public. It's a very rare quality that you won't see in a lot of celebs. And I hugely admire him for it. It's a truly inspiring quality.

Watching this in summer 2022. I have become a huge fan of Robert Sheehan, through The Umbrella Academy. I have been going back in his earlier acting career, watching stuff he has done. I watched The Road Within, and The Misfits. Next on my watch list is Love/Hate, Moonwalkers, Bad Samaritan, Killing Bono, Cherry Bomb and Mortal Engines, after I rewatch Mortal Instruments, City of Bones. I have also enjoyed watching a podcast with Tom Hopper, called The Earth Locker. I watched the Tutors and was really impressed with Jon Rhys-Meyers and Henry Cavill as well. I agree that Robert is coming into his own as far as getting recognized for his amazing talent. I can't wait to see him soar into the limelight just by being himself. I really wish I could see him play a key role in Shakespeare. Richard III would be amazing! Dave Chappelle is my favorite comedian. His delivery is priceless. If Robert did a stand-up special, I would absolutely watch!

It’s honestly very refreshing to see a person being so real and so open Rob is an amazing person and I bet it’s fun to hang out with him in general because of how comfortable he is in having candid conversations. I hope I get to meet this charismatic soul one day and kudos to the host on such a good job! I know this video is like 3 years old but I’m on a *Robert Sheehan* binge on KZbin rn and am watching anything and everything I find lol Loads of loveeeee

what he said about Canada is so painful to listen to because it's true. i barely see my family because we all work all the time. the world seems gray and dull- the weather doesn't help much either... i love talking to people especially the elderly randomly on the transit cause it just brightens their day and mine. for a few minutes we both feel a connection but then everything goes back to how it way unfortunately. i love Canada but it's really dull and lonely here

If i do this i am a freak. But its people Like him who give me the power to be myself. And i am not a normal Girl saying she IS a freak. I really am . And i am proud because i dare to do and say things many dont because they scared. Everybody keeps telling me i am unique and they have never Met somebody Like Me. Some Love me some hate me. But i am proud to be myself and by acting so "Strange" and still beeing so confident i hope to give other people the Courage to fucking be a freak. And Stop pretending.
