Great Metallica choice to cover back in those days. Darrell (as usual) just shreds it to shit effortlessly. Also - on this one the camera guy zoomed in midway through, got some cool shots of each band member.

At this time Pantera was covering Van Halen, Skid Row, Def Leppard, Ratt, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Judas Preist, venom, Motörhead and Kiss. Goes to show that end of the metal is all just one big family and we can like every sub genre

Goes to show how influential Metallica was, talk shit all you want, but pantera covering this song live only four years after it came out is hugggee… and this was the beginning of the transformation of Pantera… also one of the best metal bands ever. They ditched the hairspray and spandex and went full metal assault while everybody was sleeping.. I know let’s leave out Death, Possessed, cannibal corpse suffocation, etc. we’re not taking about that

You have to remember and take into account that Dave Mustaine's songwriting is all over Kill em all. Metallica's sound and style changed with ride the lightning and Master. Even though I can't stand MegaDave. There is a good reason he was so successful. Specially with Junior, Friedman, Menza. Before his ego took over. Pantera is and has always been in a league of its own. Groove metal. Had Pantera stayed intact I have no doubt they would have surpassed Metallica. In all honesty if we are talking "speed metal" they lost that crown in 1990. Pantera came in and saved the genre when Metallica had a image crisis and were writing songs with old bags singing on them. "The memory remains " anyone? Metallica's last front to back great album was And Justice. Best? Master. Since they came back to their senses with Death Magnetic. They have had a couple above board songs every album to the most recent. Metallica lost its way when Cliff died.

I specifically asked Darrell in person - the first time I met him, which was at Guitar Alley (Metairie, La.), December 28, 1990. I was there before they went on and he was right there, (biggest fucking mop of hair you have ever seen). But very cool guy, obviously, and here I am stumbling over my words but I asked if they were going to play Pussytight and Over and Out, and he said no, the new shit is out and the old shit is done with. Don't think they ever went back to that stuff once Cowboys was out

No offence but Dime’s solos sounds better then Kirk himself 😂

Yeah totally agree - it comes from his bluesy way of approaching thrash solos. He had so much country and blues influence from his Dad's recording studio, and his vibrato on those notes is fucking amazing . . he did it effortlessly

and don't get me wrong - I loved Kirk on the first 5 albums, but comparing the two? No contest

Why is it cool to hate on Kirk? Is he the best? No, even he would admit that but goddammit the guy laid down some badass solos throughout the years but he still gets hated on. People saying stupid shit like oh i can play better than him in my sleep or Kirk cant play guitar to save his life! Weird motherfuckers
