The Pantera channel is the official KZbin home of one of heavy metal’s most influential bands. Pantera debuted their signature sound with ‘Cowboys From Hell’ and invigorated the metal scene with raucous hits “Walk,” “Cemetery Gates,” “5 Minutes Alone,” among many others. With the 1990 release of their album ‘Cowboys From Hell,’ Pantera created “power groove” and made them the heroes to headbangers everywhere. Their following album ‘Vulgar Display of Power’ was certified double platinum and widely acknowledged as one of metal’s most enduring masterworks. For the next decade, Philip Anselmo, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, Vinnie Paul, and Rex Brown continued to ascend to the top of the music world with gold and platinum album and home video releases and sold out arena tours. I have an African Grey parrot 🐦 that has heard me blast this so many times over the years he's started mimicking Phil, and it is absolutely glorious. The first time he randomly squawked out "WE'RE TAKIN' OVER THIS TOOOOWWWWWN" I absolutely pyssed my pants laughing.

Lyrics : Oh, come on! Under the lights where we stand tall Nobody touches us at all Showdown, shootout, spread fear within, without We're gonna take what's ours to have Spread the word throughout the land They say bad guys wear black We're tagged and can't turn back You see us comin' And you all together run for cover We're taking over this town Here we come reach for your gun And you better listen well, my friend, you see It's been slowed down below Aimed at you, we're the cowboys from hell Deed is done again, we've won Ain't talking no tall tales friend 'Cause high noon, your doom Comin' for you we're the cowboys from hell Pillage the village, trash the scene But better not take it out on me 'Cause a ghost town is found Where your city used to be So out of the darkness and into the light Sparks fly everywhere in sight From my double barrel, 12-gauge Can't lock me in your cage You see us comin' And you all together run for cover We're taking over this town Here we come reach for your gun And you better listen well, my friend, you see It's been slowed down below Aimed at you, we're the cowboys from hell Deed is done again, we've won Ain't talking no tall tales friend 'Cause high noon, your doom Comin' for you we're the cowboys from hell Here we come reach for your gun And you better listen well, my friend, you see It's been slowed down below Aimed at you, we're the cowboys from hell Deed is done again, we've won Ain't talking no tall tales friend 'Cause high noon, your doom Comin' for you we're the cowboys from hell, ahhh Step aside, we're the cowboys from hell

One thing that was brilliant about Dime is that he knew the magic of simplicity. He was a skilled guitar player and could have written riffs far more complex, but chose to stay simple, which is almost always more effective. It takes a good writer to be able to understand that. I mean, the walk riff is what, two notes? Then you listen to this riff, Drag the waters Riff, Broken, Even Cemetery Gates is not all that complex. All the riffs were simple, but hard as hell and effective.
@Sage-qd6tf

They reformed recently, though no signs of new release but there is plenty of great new music. You just have to search for it harder. My personal recommendations for new, exciting music - Skinflint, Snowy Shaw, Rezet, Sons of Apollo, Melted Bodies, Avatar, Gunslingers, Compressorhead, Idles, Tengger Cavalry , Bloodywood, The Hu, Igorrr, Shining (Norway), Poppy, Nova Twins, Al-Namrood, Spiritbox, Plaag Also, there’s been many great releases from established artists. Judas Priest, Machine Head, Korn, Metallica… even Arthur Brown, yes, the guy who made “Fire” back in 1968, now 80 years old, released new album this year, surprisingly great.

There's only one reason the era of classic metal spans into the 90s and that reason is because of Pantera. When metal was on the decline as popular metal bands faced decline in popularity and/or quality, Pantera injected the genre with new blood with this album, saving it and giving it another time in the spotlight as grunge was on the rise.

@@moeburn the thing about Nirvana was that Curt Cobane was the posterboy for grunge and he absolutely hated fame and did nothing but outrageous antics to get him more attention. Now was he being coy and secretively loving it or did he absolutely hate it? Now to address the grunge/metal conflict. As was metioned metal was on its way out and rock needing resuscitation grunge was what gave it new life. Raw, unpolished, and different ppl saw it as degrading to metal bc the simplistic riffs and arrangements and repetitive vocals that had no substance (imo) Yes there's nothing wrong with grunge if you want to trade in your 1972 454 SS Chevelle for a gas saving Prius.

Pantera not only saved metal but reinvented it. They didn't get the respect they deserve. Watched the metal documentary and the 90s came up and no mention of them. Also they talk about the big 4 or great 8 well Pantera was 1 and above them all. RIP St Dime and Vinny Paul. Stronger than all forever 🤘⚡🐍👑🔥😈🤠💚💥

One thing that I like about Pantera, their tracks always sounded like a band....can hear the bass, in instrumental breaks, solos. Sometimes no backing guitar tracks at all. Not like a crappy studio release.

All they do is repeat the same handful of riffs over and over. I'm sure many decent guitar players still in HS are at a talent level to do that. I could see where people like to listen to pick up the high energy vibe but I sure don't see, or hear, much talent coming through from a song writing or technical instrument playing perspective.

I'm an old school dude who listens to ACDC, Rush, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Led Zepplin etc.. but Pantera.. AWESOME!! I still have the cassette and still jam to it and here in KZbin as well.. Pantera was visionary in the music industry and way ahead of their time. Here we are exactly thirty years later, and their music has preserved well. The sound is as if freshly composed today. For those unaware, Pantera not only paved the way for mainstream Punk Metal, but also created the sub-genre known today as Groove Metal. 🤘 In my opinion, a sub-genre far greater than either independent genre - metal or punk. Any 'true' Music Enthusiast of that time experienced the proverbial, "Whoa!! Who the (beep) was that!?!?!" moment. That is, upon the initial15 sec of hearing a Pantera song for the first time. Much love and respect to Phil, Dime, Rex, & Vinnie. 🤘

Well, I'm not from that time but when I heard this song for the first time I went exactly like you described😂. I was expecting a purely thrash metal song, but the glam/hair metal influences got to me right when the first riff came out. It sounds like Van Halen or Motley Crue if they listened to Slayer more often, and of course, I love it.🤘
