I grew up in Fort Worth Texas and was introduced to the band by my dad who used to love seeing them play every weekend at a club in town called The Basement, this was 2-3 years before CFH was released. I was Lucky to have seen Pantera twice. My first show was in Dallas at Fair Park Coliseum in March of 2001 and the second was in July at Ozzfest. Every time I think about Dime I remember meeting him and Vinnie at a Dallas Stars game with my dad in 1999, the year they won the Stanley Cup. I was extremely nervous and almost lost the opportunity to go over and talk with him but my dad made me. He was incredibly nice and talked with us for almost 20 minutes. Pantera was a band that made a connection with their fans like no other band could. We miss you Dime.

I got to see them the year they played Ozzfest and then at the coliseum on the Reinventing The Steel tour. My dad went to the basement also. To this day I listen to them! once a month I listen to every album! Love these guys. Got to meet and hug Vinnie. I was very drunk and was watching a band called Destroyer (Kiss cover) and Vinnie walks in. Great night!! During the show at the coliseum I busted a guys eye lid open in the mosh. The strobe lights were crazy that night. When the lights came on I was helping the guy clean up a little and Phil said on the next song I want to see more of that and pointed to the dudes face with blood running down. I gave the dude my shirt and he cleaned the blood up and we continued to mosh. Later on I crowd surfed to the front and got to high five Phil. The guys eye was ok by the end of the night! Glad that I was able to watch them live!!! Best band I have ever heard, best concerts I have ever seen, by far the greatest metal band to ever play!

Never again will we witness this level of badassery. I’m glad I seen em twice and met them backstage in Nashville. But I feel bad for all the younger fans that will never see them live. I’m 52 now. Been listening to Pantera since they were a band. I could tell way back before Cowboys from hell that they were gonna be monsters. In the early years I kept thinking, “if only these dudes got heavier”. And they did. And kept on until they were the most rabid and brutal metal act of all time. I’ve seen many many heavy shows in my day. Even black metal and death metal shows. I’m talking some super heavy Scandinavian shit. But let me tell you right the fuck right now, Pantera destroys all🤘🏻

My brother wondered about that shit for a year or so until I saw the interview with Dime in Guitar World explaining what was going on with Phil. Then we were like "Ooohhhh..." Fucking heartbreaking man. Then Dime was gone a couple years later.
@integrity1016 жыл бұрын
@@frankm5150 That's the proof though that in a lot of ways BEHIND THE MUSIC and other journalists really lied and pretended like the brothers didnt KNOW & AGREE to at minimum 1 year off for PANTERA. People forget it was late 2001 and Down had literally formed 10 years earlier but had only played 13 live shows bc of phils commitment to Pantera. Superjoint had formed 8 years earlier AND THEIR 1ST ALBUM was literally done, recorded and all in 2000. So thats sitting on the back burner also. Phil AND REX work with Down and do some touring with them. PHIL ALSO wanted to release SJRs debut. The brothers were supposed to release home video 4 and finish up rebel meets rebel. They chose not to work on either. Phil on the other hand wrote/recorded Down II with Rex And toured it. Just 2 months later (After DOWN II) he releases SJRs debut and toured that. So throughout 2002 he toured to promote both records. The brothers literally had a decade to prepare, no ifs ands or buts about it. Back then it was more radical to have "side bands" and Phil had two serious bands he wanted to work with. The brothers WERE NOT blindsided AT ALL. thats false. Total myth to scapegoat Anselmo.

My favorite part is at 3:50 when they go into the breakdown, Phil and Rex start headbanging... Goosebump time! What an incredible band. At the time, I was not really into them... I would've been 20 yrs old here, and was obsessed with KISS and Whitesnake.. Which I still am, but I have become a big fan of Pantera over the last few years. Nobody before or since has come close to the power they brought. And as far as tightness, they're in a league of their own for sure. It's so damn sad that the brothers are both gone. I find myself wondering if Vinnie died sooner than he should have, because he was just heart broken over losing his little brother. You need to look no further than live clips of "Primal Concrete Sledge" to see just how in sync those 2 were. I've never heard anyone else come close to matching it when they cover that song.

Metallica has always been the "household name metal band".. And there's no denying how great they once were, but Pantera NEVER sold out, or tried to ride some trend to sell albums. While bands like Metallica and Megadeth were scrambling in the mid to late 90s to stay on the radio, Pantera got heavier and heavier... You gotta respect them for that, even if you are a p*ssy and don't like them. It's a crime that they barely get airplay on hard rock stations these days... You might hear "Walk", "Cemetary Gates" or even "Cowboys from Hell" from time to time, but those songs are tame compared to most of their other stuff. I'd argue that Pantera is the greatest Heavy Metal band of all time.
