1992 Hollywood Palladium. Crowbar opened, White Zombie next then Pantera. I'll never forget it. After White Zombie was done, right before Pantera came out Dime was standing on the right side of the stage where nobody could see him unless you walked around the stage to that side. He was standing there warming up doing scales and I don't know what else..My and my buddies kid were standing 5 feet from him just mesmerized. We're both guitar players. He finally looked over at us and flipped both of us picks. Jim Dunlop heavy. He made 2 young guys very happy that night and all i used from then on were Jim Dunlop heavy.

The last time I saw Dime was at the Palladium... He was doing the Damageplan thing and Zakk Wylde was there and I was hanging out by the buses drinking with the Kat, Zakk and a few others, I saw Dime still doing something in the back of the venue... I Yelled at him want a Coors Light bud, He said ya when he's done... I ended up having to take off b4 we could hang and have that beer... It was 1 month later he was stolen from us... And I wish I had stayed and gave him that beer, I just thought next time he cruzed thru our city, I'd connect and we'd have that beer... So I still owe him a COOR'S LIGHT... Miss that dude so much... 🤘😎🍻

So very nice. Great interview. I was in a bar on a week night playing darts all alone back in 1996. I was the only long hair guy there. Suddenly this fella with a pink beard walked up to me and asked "Do they serve whiskey here?" I said yes as I was pulling the darts out of the board. He said "Let me buy you a drink!' We drank, sang karaoke together (Sweet Home Alabama...his choice. I live in Jacksonville Fl). Drove around my city in my Toyota Corolla while he kept changing cassettes, ate Krystals, and drove him back to his hotel. I got home around 6 am (my wife was pissed). Two days later at the show, when he saw me backstage, he ran and and hugged me and my wife, he told her "your man saved my ass last night, he's good people!" Dime was amazing, such a genuine guy, no ego. He is truly missd

Great interview. I was one of those “kids” who waited by the bus every time they played my town. Skipped my night school class the first time they came around, used a fake ID to get in. It changed my life. This wasn’t my dad’s or my older brother’s music. This was something new for the 90’s and all mine. I remember my friends and I driving around the east coast to see Pantera 4 times in one week. On the 3rd night, Dime said “weren’t you mfers here last night”? We said yep, see you at the next show too. He said “these guys need a shot”. LOL I’ve been to hundreds of shows since Dime was taken from us but never again felt the sense of brotherhood and experienced the downright craziness that I did at those Pantera shows.

That was so good!! I used to see Pantera in Texas before they got famous, but I never got to meet Dime until they opened for Skid Row in early '92. He was out "circulating" by the concessions just like Rita talked about. He was the nicest, most coolest guy ever. We just talked a lot about Dead Horse because we both had a Dead Horse shirt on, and a couple other Houston bands. The only other famous guitarist I've met is Eddie Van Halen. And as most of you know, Eddie placed one of his famous guitars in Dime's grave. Thanks for sharing your story, Rita! And thank you Zane! Btw, I met you in Houston too. lol

Vinnie would definitely be here if Dime was alive. The Pantera fans who ignore how much of an impact the *avoidable, stupid* death of Dime had on Vinnie while creating excuses for Pantera to return as Pantera now without them is putrid... Asking the fans who have a problem with that to "get over it". Vinnie never did, he couldn't. If I love Darrell just because of what I hear/see from him and got shook up with that, imagine what Vinnie must've felt until his demise. I understand all the resentment he had about the tragedy.

Zane, that was fantastic. Great idea havin Dimebag's hag on with you, Rockin' Rita is the greatest. I used to watch them at houston shows in the 80's and just before they hit it big with Cowboys from hell. Last time Pantera played Houston was at the Astroarena and the packed it and we went backstage afterward and hung out with Dime, Rex and Vince. It was absolutely amazing. I miss those days because I would see Dime n Vince at the Woodlands pavillion at th BLS/Judas Priest show, actually sept. 7th 2004, and that was the last time I saw and hung out with Zakk, Dime and Vince. I hung outside the Galaxy in Deep Ellum after the Thin Lizzy show and Dime n Zakk came out back to hang and Tommy Aldridge, John Sykes etc. in 2003. Lots of cool memories, Dimetime is a sacred time every day. Gotta remember it. Gitcher pull on that rig.

I felt paralyzed and didn’t know what to do. My hero was murdered. I had the pleasure of meeting Dime twice, once at one of his Randall clinics and the next after a show Pantera had finished playing on the RtS tour and both experiences were such a delight that I will never ever forget. So I have one major gripe about this interview. While the interview itself was okay, and the interviewee is IMO royalty in the metal camp and I'm grateful to have finally heard her story, I'm pretty frikkin perturbed and the fact that Zane had essentially zero knowledge regarding the subject matter. Every Gen X'er metalhead and even millennials share the common knowledge of what happened to Dime, and when, and exactly where. Ppl not even into the culture are privy to those horrific events and this guy couldn't even get the fucking year right, being five years off. Like c'mon man. Steve O learned the hard way not long ago what results from not doing your homework before either having a guest or being a guest on an interviewing platform. Everything is on the Internet nowadays. It's not rocket surgery gaining a little bit of basic frikkin knowledge, ZANE. Then u wouldn't receive negative comments like this particular one that points out your ignorance. Are u even a fan of Pantera? Or any metal? I'm gonna assume that's a fat NO. Also to avoid unnecessary time being wasted with the retellings of basic information that can instead be filled with other tidbits not widely known to us fans, I think Rita, and all other relevant individuals, outta screen their interviewer before they accept the invitation bc chances are if the interview isn't up to speed with the bare basics of his potential mark, his viewers are likely just as oblivious. Just my opinion. Other than that, I guess I can say I enjoyed the interview as this was the first one I've seen withnRita and I look forward to more of them and hopefully any future interviewers will do their due diligence by educating themselves beforehand. ✌🏽🤘🏽

Only got to see Pantera twice. First time was Ozzfest 97 in Virginia. Crowd went bonkers and tore the grass field up, and Pantera got banned from the venue. Second time was about 2000 on the Reinventing the Steel tour. Me and 3 friends drove from San Fran to San Jose with no tickets, and people outside the venue wanted more money than we could afford for tickets. On our sad walk back to the car, we found an unmarked door. We walked inside, and it led straight to backstage. We walked through like we belonged there, walked onto the stage and down onto the floor and enjoyed a great Pantera show free of charge!!!

Thank you Rita! I’m sad you had to go through that interview. You did great, the interviewer should have done his research and been much more respectful of your time sharing such an emotional moment of your life.

So great to see this,I love Rita, hearing kind of how her relationship with dime started and hearing all these stories was so dope and refreshing, she should do a podcast of her own,so sad that the last of the Abbott family(atleast that I know of.)Jerry passed away, but the legacy that family left behind will never be forgotten long live the Abotts and Pantera,Damageplan, and Hellyeah!gotta have me a blacktooth!Getcha pull!

I'm French I've been listening to Pantera since I was 9 or years old and I remember what I was wearing and what I was doing on Thursday (time difference and news) when I heard the news that day I was 14 years old, I was in middle school before going to the canteen on the library computer with my best friend, they started crying while reading the article. I will always regret not having been able to see him live with Pantera to buy the whiskey if it is not in the USA, is it not possible?

Im friends with a Columbus band called Bobaflex...They played at the Al Rosa alot...They played not long after what happened...Marty the singer/guitarist asked me to help him get his amp off stage...Then when i did he pointed out where Dimes blood was still on the carpet on stage...Its pretty crazy they left it.😔
