Polishing glass will help clean the surface by removing acid rain spots, hard water spots, road film, and stubborn bird stains. It can also help to remove fine to medium windshield wiper/grit scratches and swirls. You can do this by hand or with a machine polisher in combination with a rayon pad designed for glass.
Cover the vehicle surfaces and trim around the glass. (Glass polish will stain black trim)
Apply a small amount of the polish to the glass polish pad.
Work thoroughly on the glass surface in overlapping motions.
Clean surface thoroughly when complete.
Wipe down with an IPA solution like CarPro Eraser to remove polishing oil residue.
Pour a few drops of CarPro FlyBy Forte glass coating over the supplied application pad.
Apply in circular motion across the glass. DO NOT WIPE OFF.
On a windshield: repeat steps 6 and 7 (2 more times - 3 coats total). On side windows, only 1 layer is needed.
Using the same applicator (but no additional coating) repeat step 7 buffing off any trace of residue until the surface is 100% transparent and clear.
Apply coating to wiper blades and let the blades stand up for 10 minutes.
Keep the surface dry for 4 hours and do not use the wiper blades for 24 hours. Do not wash the car for 3 days.
CarPro FlyBy Forte fully bonds by penetrating the top surface of glass, merging and transforming it into a hydrophobic smooth surface. It will not allow chattering, wiper noise, or degradation of the glass. Expected durability is up to 2 years.
It’s easy to apply, resists chemical from pH 4 to 12, and is suitable for any glass type: automotive, marine, aviation and more.

You can use a claybar on exterior glass, and on all painted/clear coated surfaces (paint, wheels, painted bumpers, etc).

At the end of the video you mention using this technique on boats and airplanes. Boats and airplanes tend to have plexiglass rather than glass windshields. Plexiglass is much more prone to scratching, very sensitive to the heat generated during polishing, and is damaged by chemicals like IPA. Perhaps you could do a video on polishing and protecting plexiglass windshields.

Great video! I love this kind of work on your car. My windows are already 5 years old so I will definitely go for it! I have some experience from applying UNC-R coat a few years back and I loved it. Gtechniq, Carpro and Gyeon are my favorite. I can advise all users to invest in polishing machine like Rupers or Lare. They will pay off and will give you an option to carry out all sort of works around your car always in 100%. Manual polishing is too much unpredictable and will not give you so good results so if you do it every let say 1.5y better to do it in best way with best results! Cheers from Poland!

Maybe you figured it out.. but yes, clay bar after cleaning and before polishing. Use a medium cut compound then a fine polishing compound. Use medium to high speed on the DA. You can do ceramic separate from the body, but remember to be careful with chemicals around it when you’re cleaning the body.

@@PanTheOrganizer Really? I've had this exact coating on my 2013 Audi Allroad aka the #vancityallroad for few months and I've found it looses it's effectiveness after about a month or so. I have been testing out sio2 on it and of course you get the hydrophobic properties back. I assume this coating is like others if you don't like it or you aren't happy with it you can apc/superclean and or polish it off with the DA?

Hey Pan, Thanks for making all this great content! I'm always glad to see when you put up a new video. Could you do a follow-up video at 6, 12 and 18 months just to show how the product you've applied has been holding up? I tried a previous suggestion from another KZbinr to use a product I already had in my car cleaning bucket. I don't think that option held up very long, probably a few months at best. It was probably a reasonable time and effort to performance ratio, but I'm curious if doing something like your video here will yield better long term results for time, effort and cost. Also curious to see how a hydrophobic ceramic coating holds up to Canadian salted roads during winter. =)

Hi! I just did my whole windshield with Silver Wax ceramic coating 2 months ago and it’s amazing. Just saying that It’s not really made for glass but it works! Do you think it is really necessary to use a ceramic coating that is specifically made for glass?

Glass coatings are specifically formulated for glass as they offer better resistance to abrasion from the wiper blades. Paint coatings aren’t formulated for that use.

Great content. I followed this tutorial perfectly with great results. Glass is cleaner than I’ve ever had. All is good during the day but at night, the rain is beading off but my new wiper blades clean off the rain but there is a haze that is remaining for a second after the wiper passes that reflects oncoming headlights. Brutal and worse than reflection off sheeting water. It seems like the product is doing what you said but wondering if you have experienced the ultra clean and ceramic coated glass but reflective haze after the wiper passes. Hoping you can comment before I mechanically remove to get back to a safe condition or make an adjustment. Thanks!

I never had such issues. What specific glass coating did you apply? Also, make sure you degrease and clean the interior of your windshield to reduce glare and a film like appearance. Hi Pan! I used aggresive clay cleaning first and then cerium oxide to remove some scratches from windshield wiper. They are starting to fade. However I did the whole windshield, and ive noticed I have some light marring all over the windshield. How can I fix this? Use a less aggressive compound then cerium oxide like a finishing compound to smoothe things out? Or just keep going with the cerium oxide and after a while it will get smoother? Thnz a ton!! Do we need to get a windshield washer fluid to maintain the coating? Since most large commercial windshield washer fluids have oil, bug, nitrogen, tag, ect removers added to them. Won’t that cause a degradation of the ceramic coat? That’s why I was thinking we need to add to our paint ceramic coats, we should do the same with the windshield/wipers. On a new windscreen, you would only need to clean it, use the IPA paint prep spray (like CarPro Eraser) and then apply the coating as per the instructions of the coating you are buying.

@@PanTheOrganizer Yessir. That's my usual mode of operation haha. Pan do you believe there's a downside to using distilled water and rubbing alcohol for a glass cleaner instead of a dedicated glass cleaner? I'm trying to find some research on this topic.

Many people use an IPA solution to clean glass, jury's still out on the appropriate dilution though. 10-15% IPA is a good starting point. Test on an inconspicuous area first if you're cleaning interior glass with tinted film. Most good glass cleaners are already alcohol based, so it takes the guesswork out of having to get the dilution right. I use commercially available quality automotive glass cleaners myself.

a friend of mine (not a professional) said he tried nano/ceramic coating on the windscreen but said it compromised the windscreen washer function... in other words, when you actually want the water to stick till you wipe the windscreen the (de facto hydrophobic) coating results in you wiping a "dry" glass

If it's brand new, you can skip the polishing, but I would for sure use Eraser prior to applying the coating. Wash the car, dry it, use Eraser, then apply the coating.

Hi Pan, I bought a used car and the windshield glass has many tiny specs on it that seem like someone threw sand on the windshield and the front of the car at high speed. I see tiny rocks between the grille and inside the radiator too. How do I get rid of this extremely tiny scrape-able chips/specs? Will the technique mentioned above work? Also I couldn't find the kit you mentioned in the video.

@easy269 You can use regular ceramic coatings. I use a very simple method, I use Adam's advanced spray ceramic coating. I mean, you have to do the full steps of strip wash, decon wash, clay bar, then if happy with how your car looks, spray the ceramic coating on an applicator pad and do 2ftx2ft sections. Headlights, taillights, everything, just don't do the windshield with it. All other windows are fine. There's a video of Adam going through the steps and timing himself clay a Jeep and then applying the coating to the hood.

Pan. I’ve noticed after a thorough cleaning of my windshield I have what appears to be very small pits on the outside of the windshield. What is this usually caused by? I do not have a lot of stone chips or issues with the paint on my hood. Have you seen this before and is there a product you would recommend to apply to possibly fill the very small pits or will this method and product fill the pits in and make the windshield completely smooth? I really never noticed them until I really cleaned the windshield and was going to add some protection to it. Thanks in advance for any advise and/or solution.

I have a brand new car do I still need to polish the glass or can I just skip to the IPA step In addition I will also be applying to a glass roof should I use three coats or will one suffice?

On a brand new car, you could just wash the car and then use the paint prep IPA spray and then apply the coating. The two or three layers is only recommended for the windshield. For all the side glass, rear glass and mooroof, you can just apply one layer.

Hi Pan, Watched this video and I am contemplating to apply this product to my car but I have two questions to you. 1. My car was driven a lot on the highway and the windshield is like blasted with sand if you look at it closely. Will this product help fill up those tiny chips and small scratches? Second question is more a concern about the reviews on this products on Amazon. It shows only 2.5 stars. Is there anything else you would recommend? Keep the good work of the videos

Pan does polishing the windshield smooth out the pits on the windshield? During cleaning do you think applying a Citrol or Citrus cleaner for a few minutes on the windshield will help remove insect remains, grime and brake dust?

Citrol sure kicks ass for bug removal on glass. Just rinse thoroughly after use. Polishing does help smoothen the glass to some extent (along with decontamination with claybar) but pitting is another game as that is actual erosion of the glass.

I called Chemical Guys and asked if their ph neutral Citrus Wheel cleaner was okay to use on glass and they said it can be used on glass and paint because they have tested it and it will not hurt the clear coat. (I take that advice cautiously.) I just bought a Porter Cable DA polisher and have been gleaning information off of KZbin. Your channel has a lot of good info. Between you Forensic Detailer, and others I am acquiring a lot of helpful information. Now. If it would just warm up outside I could get to work!

@@PanTheOrganizer Good question. I'm an engineer who was made redundant due to Covid in May. I'm also a car enthusiast with a crazy level of OCD. The first thought after losing my job was to start a detailing business. All I had to do was search "Car Detailing Basics" on youtube and there you were. I believe you were the forth video i watched and loved how you explained everything. I think the first video was from "Chicago Auto Pros" which was interesting but not suitable to learn detailing. It was rather improvised to advertise the business. Unfortunately, there's no much of variety of detailing products in Australia so most of my purchase is online which takes forever to deliver.

Pan, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have been looking for a howto to remove fine scratches from glass for weeks. During a recent maintenance wash I somehow managed to put a couple of super fine 1 inch scratches in my glass. You can't catch them with your nail and are only visible at night with oncoming traffic headlights. They are right in my line of sight and are driving me nuts. I really hope ceriglass and a glass polishing pad will remove them. I will report back when I get the kit and let people know if the ceriglass was able to remove the scratches. Thanks Again.

Just an update, finally got to try this today. Unfortunately it was not able to complete remove the scratches in my windshield. It did seem to "knock them down" a little, so the glare is not as bad as it was. Might try again when the weather gets nice.

It might be a little bit of a stretch but I guess you could do this on your home windows as well to remove water spots and polish your windows as well right? I don't think it would hurt anything right?

Glass is glass, so it won't hurt. Just keep in mind it's not laminated glass like your windshield so I don't know about the strength of your home glass if you're to use a polisher on it. Do it at your own risk.

Hey Pan, great video as always..it's always told one should use a pH balanced car shampoo to clean your ceramic coated car that help you get the life of the coating but what is advised to use in a windshield washer for ceramic coated windshields? Is there something specific? Or should diluted car shampoo maybe be added there?

Pan, I have a question. My uncle just bought a 2015 Nissan Altima that someone must have been using their wipers in a sand storm. The windshield is badly scratched. Especially on the passenger side. It even looked foggy. Well I used an old Eastwood glass polishing kit I bought way back years ago that contained rhodium powder. It helped some. I then did like "Sweet Project Cars" recommended and put some hand cleaner with pumice in the mix and it helped more. At least it isn't terribly foggy now, but you can still see the scratches. I basically polished the scratches till they are more clear. I was wondering if I could wet sand the bad areas with say a 800 grit and then maybe a 1500 grit then use the polish you used on it to polish out the 1500 grit scratches? I know I need to be careful not to go too deep or I will make the glass distorted, but I just want to make it much better. What are your recommendations on this? I appreciate it. Tom

Yes but 3200 psi is too much to wash cars. Set it to 2000 or less.

Hey Pan; so long story short: I used Meguiars Wheel Brightener on my windshield to remove some stubborn bug guts after a road trip. Apparently Acid can etch glass-wasn’t aware of this before hand, and now my (new) wipers still seem to grab and jump on the glass when there isn’t a whole lot of water on the windshield itself. I’m guessing the acid from the wheel cleaner lightly etched the surface of the glass and is causing my wipers to grab slightly. If it IS etched, do you think this glass polish would help remove it and fix my wiper problem?

Omg you used Meg’s Wheel Brightener on glass? Ouch! Yup that etched glass. It won’t hurt to polish it, but it depends how severe your issue is.

Start with cleaning the glass, and then using a claybar. That should do most of the job of removing embedded contamination. If you still feel some grit, then move to machine polishing.

No maintenance needed. You just wash your car as per usual, and you can also use your automotive glass cleaner as per usual.
