You might not like this video, that's alright. I just need to move on.
ATP is the number in your status page, raw is the number without the weapon class bloating.
Tigrex' head stagger limit is important, hitting it causes Tigrex to stagger, giving you time to get away safely after an attack. His head stagger is 180.
G-Rank's defense modifier is 70%, meaning that only 70% of damage will come through, on top of that, all(?) stagger limits in G-Rank are multiplied by 2.3.
That turns 180 into 414, and then into ~592 when considering the defense mod. Tigrex's head hitzone is 75, or 80 when enraged, turning 592 into 789, or 739 when enraged. So you'll need to do that much damage to stagger him with one hit.
The Greatsword level 3 charge applies two modifiers to your attack, the motion value and the charge attack variable, that is 110 MV (1.1x) and 1.3x for the variable. A critical hit will increase your damage by 25%, that's 1.25x. Purple sharpness increases your raw damage by 1.5x.
To stagger him with one hit, here's some examples:
Doing a level 3 charge, you'll need an ATP of at least ~2,647, or ~552 raw.
Lv3 charge with purple sharpness, ATP of at least ~1,765, or ~367 raw
Lv3 charge, purple sharpness, 100% affinity, ATP of at least 1,412, or ~294 raw
The King Atillart GS has an ATP of 1,488, with Sharpness+1 and Art of Unsheathing, you will have an effective ATP of 2,790, or ~581 raw, putting us over the required damage to stagger Tigrex with one hit
(1,488 * 1.1 * 1.25 * 1.5 * .75 * .7 * 1 * 1.3) / 4.8 = 436, which is 22 more than the required 414.
Let's consider the above again,
Lv 3 charge, purple sharpness, 100% affinity, and Tigrex is enraged, you'll need an ATP of at least 1,324, or ~275 raw, which is much more achievable.
The Punisher GS has an ATP of 1296, 270 raw, if we plug that into the formula we get:
(1296 * 1.1 * 1.25 * 1.5 * .8 * .7 * 1 * 1.3) / 4.8 = 405, which is 9 less than the required 414, of course we'll be using buffs to increase that a little.
With the powercharm, powertalon, mega demondrug, and power seed, we get 32 more raw, or 153.6 ATP, adding that to 1296 gives us:
(1449.6 * 1.1 * 1.25 * 1.5 * .75 * .7 * 1 * 1.3) / 4.8 = 425, which is 11 more than the required 414. Without a power seed when he's not enraged will leave us with only 411, which is 3 less. While enraged, without a power seed it's 438, so, power seed is important for staggering when not enraged, using this set up.
tl;dr: Punisher can stagger him in one lv3 charge when he's enraged with S+1 and AoU with at least the powercharm.
When he's not enraged, you'll also need the Attack up Large Kitchen Buff, both the powercharm and talon, and the power seed to stagger him in one level 3 charge.
Really, you should just farm for the Diablos GS if you want to fight Tigrex, but this is a good budget option if you'd prefer not to. This takes a little more effort and isn't as effective, but doesn't require as much farming, though Diablos isn't too bad if you use pellet shots and/or play in multiplayer, but that's not the decision for me to make. I know that getting Phantom Butterflies and Mellanje ore can also be really annoying, but at least you don't have to fight a monster for it.
If you're able to, emulation is a great way to play, I highly recommend you use PPSSPP: www.ppsspp.org/
And if you want to play multiplayer, go to Hunsterverse! hunstermonter.net/hunstervers...

I appreciate the sentiment! 😄 Maybe I'll get around to it, I never really thought about it until this quest, really. I've always liked MHFU, but the more I play it the more I see the problems with it, I don't hate the game and I don't hate the monsters in it, but I feel like there's not as much grace in the design as I once thought. I've been going pretty in depth for this guide series, and it's aimed towards newer players with an expectation that they won't play perfectly all the time, so, when a fight like this is designed in such a way that necessitates systems that should not be expected from players, it just feels sloppy, really. Thanks for watching!

@@HeadHunter455 What I really don't like about Tigrex is... His 'effing CLAW TIP!!! It's the one that gets me all the time, not gonna lie! I get the 'Tigrex mechanic' that's why I can feel your pain with this monster, hehe :D I currently play Freedom Unite and Portable 3rd side by side so, yeah, I can tell the difference between the 2 Tigrex monsters and they really did improve him by a lot :)

Fr though, while MHFU is indeed a nolstagic staple, fact is a lot of the game's details were quite simply raw & unpolished; prime case in point being the hitboxes ofc. And yet it's mind boggling how many people still consider these "objectively" better than the more refined aspects in newer games, like wew.

It's probably the memories. I first played MHFU because two friends introduced me to it. We had fun bullying the Congalala and Bulldrome. We faced Ukanlos and Fatalis...but since we only cheated to reach that point, we got smashed. Still, we had fun. Man, those memories will never be forgotten.

I grew fond of MH thanks to this game, and its selling point to me wasnt the raw, unpolished mechanics, actually questionable design choices, or even just the monsters in design. It was their threat. Now, I am not gonna defend or justify taking the full damage of a charge because the tip of Tigrex's pinky lightly creased against your foot, that's just ridiculous, but the fact Tigrex being that difficult makes sense, and is transcribed to the player in full, wonky game mechanics or not. Monsters in the newer generations dont offer the same level of threat and stress as some of the old gen versions of them do, regardless of whether it is because of a lack of a mechanic, or because the existing ones in old gen are archaic at best. There are of course exceptions to this, like Fatalis, who is objectively and undeniably better and a bigger threat in Iceborne than here.

a lot of old players back in the day left mh when it introduced the 3rd gen, they're complaining about fair hitboxes and everything lmfao. i even saw mazereon making a rant about how mh sucks now and he never came back. it's funny because the japanese devs don't give a shit, but i hope they won't add microtransactions though, that'll really suck.

I know this video is a little more negative than my usual, and it's sparked some debate and controversy, but I'm really only trying to do what I think will help others lol. I remember my first time playing MHFU, I stopped at Nekoht's Khezu, I just felt kinda discouraged because I had *already* struggled vs Khezu, and now I'm doing it all over again, like, I can't escape it haha. I'm glad I came back, hell, I quit MHF1 pretty early on, and I'm glad I tried MHF2 instead of writing off the series. I hope that my videos can help others come back from almost dropping the game too :) Also... I probably wouldn't have played this far in MHFU if I wasn't making these videos 😉😉 Thanks for watching! I'll finish my planned videos for MHFU and move on to other MH games, and *maybe* even some other series. But I may always come back to MHFU for challenge quests or *at least* streams, we'll see. I'm glad I can help people enjoy the game, that's all I want to do, help with fights, and help people feel more validated that, yeah, the game is really rough in ways that are unnecessary lol I think one day I may try and make a retrospective for this game. MHFU has gotten a lot of praise, deservedly, but I can't help but feel like everyone is just flat out ignoring the pretty blatant issues in design and such. It's not just Plesioth's hipcheck haha. Yeah, I think MHFU's Tigrex is poorly designed because the only reasonable way to deal with him is a very specific GS set up, using evasion skills (or just being insanely good at the game) or "cheesing" it with flashbomb spam or Lance and blocking his literal endless charging. I made a follow up video to this one using Lance, and it's much smoother, but it just kind of feels bad to be forced into pretty specific playstyles just for one monster. In later games they balanced him out, in some ways by just buffing the player since in MHFU we don't have many answers to his bs, and he's so much more fun because of it. I'm glad you saw my video, thanks for watching! 😊 Part of why I make these videos is to show what the older games looked and played like to people who have never played them. Other reasons are nostalgia, to try and help people clear the quests, and to encourage people to try the games, since I think they hold up very well. The PSP ones, MHFU and MHP3rd, are pretty accessible, can be emulated on PPSSPP pretty well, even on some phones. 😆😆 and yeah that is pretty funny lmao, I assumed Tigrex was going into that area and wanted to clear it out but it really looks like I went in, smacked him, and ran out :P Also I love your profile picture! 🙂 Nichijou is my favorite show.

I appreciate it. I think it's inevitable that the more you are exposed to something the more you will see its flaws, and G-Rank presents many flaws in the design of its systems. A blanket increase of hp through the defense mod and stagger limit multiplier of 2.3 causes a ton of issues and I can only see it being dones recklessly without much thought. It's not like these games were ever perfect (See sns from MHF1, pretty sure that was accidental. See also the input delay from it being a port, which is also apparently present in MHF2? I dunno), and I'm not expecting them to be, really. It's an older game and I understand that complaining about it only makes so much sense, but I've been playing and covering the game in some sort of depth for years now, so I feel like I at least have some merit to what I'm saying.

I really appreciate it, and I'm glad to hear that haha, good job getting through Tigrex, it's rough. It's just, now that we're nearing the end of the game, the problems that were more or less part of the difficulty or ignorable to a point are just... too much now lol, I think the decisions for G-Rank's difficulty was done too recklessly and without much thought for what the player could do. I get the same vibe from Rise to Sunbreak, as if the developers see people saying the game is too easy, so they go "Alright, if they want it hard, we'll make it hard." But it's sometimes not hard in a way that's satisfying, along with my gripes with fixation on difficulty in general. Thanks for watching, I hope you keep enjoying the game! :) For all its problems, MHFU is still a good game.

Yeaah... My main issues in G-Rank are how fast he is and how much higher the head stagger limit is, both of which require very specific set ups to reliably hit him and get away with it because of a stagger, there's math in the description that explains what's going on, but basically the blanket 70% defense mod and 2.3x stagger multiplier I think is pretty sloppy and messes with a lot of things :/ In Low/High rank, GS is pretty fun and effective. In G-Rank I can't recommend anything other than the lance really, maybe HBG with a bunch of flash bombs.

I'm really sorry that you had to deal with that :/ I'm very lucky that I'm in a position to be able to do this and not face a relatively huge backlash, and that I have a lot of supportive people who agree. I'm happy that others think the same way, that I'm not just crazy or totally unreasonable, more than I am with people just agreeing with me for the sake of it. I wouldn't have said things like in this video if I didn't believe they were worth saying to people trying to play this game nowadays, to help validate and justify their frustrations, if they needed or wanted it. There's always the vocal minority, but as long as this video is mostly doing what I intended it to do, I'm happy with it. It's really a shame that there's such a toxic part of the community that will basically bully you if you say anything bad about 2nd gen. It's inevitable that there are shitty people doing shitty things, but it just sucks still. I hope with this video and maybe some others later on I'll be able to help some people feel a little more confident in agreeing that, yeah, the 2008 game, from 14 years ago (technically 2007, 15 years), maybe isn't as good as the ones they made with the experience gained from developing since then. lmao. Yeah, I think his moveset in FU isn't really that bad, it's just... a combination of being in G-Rank, just how fast he is, the bad hitboxes, and the lack of anything we can do about it really sucks. Later versions of Tigrex are actually a lot of fun because we have answers for his problems. I don't think I had too much trouble in P3rd or World or Rise by comparison. It was a huge inspiration for me to make this guide series, and I'm seriously pretty glad that it's reached and helped so many people. This video really was meant as an extension of that, I think through my complaining, I can help validate others who feel the same, and I hope in that validation they can calm down and come back and try again, but I don't want to ignore just how legitimately bad the game is at some points haha. I've said before that Plesioth's hipcheck is fun *for me* to deal with, but I agree that it's just not great, and I can imagine some people probably quit due to many monsters being way too hard just due to being poorly designed, and/or the game has not prepared them for it, and that's a shame, because when the game DOES prepare you (Yian Kut-Ku -> Yian Garuga -> Rathalos) It's honestly fantastic. Anyways. MHFU is what put my channel on the map, so I owe it enough to finish the series lol but I'm pretty glad that they've fixed a lot of problems (and introduced more tbh) in the later games.

i mean i totally get what you're saying about the game being rather difficult in all of its idiocies. But i think people sort of give it a pass due to how ancient the game is, i mean it is the first completed monster hunter game. And being the first of a long line of newer series makes it similar to a rough diamond that became a true diamond through the newer versions of the game. Basically what i'm trying to say is that people put MHFU on such a high pedestal, despite several if not many problematic designs, due to it being the original. Meaning that without MHFU we wouldn't have any of the newer more polished monster hunter games, cause its that shitty design that was sort of a starting point for what came next. I think that's the idea people are trying to get at essentially. The idea that, "hey since its the orginal its above all else". although in terms of gameplay if they say its better than any other new monster hunter games, then that's a big yikes from me cause either they may be masochists or on something they really shouldn't be on.

Yeah, I didn't mean for this to just be me complaining for 20 minutes, that's not helpful :/ I ended up making a lance video for "actual" advice right after because I didn't feel like this did it adequately. I wanted to express my frustrations with the game in general, and because of my apparent audacity, I seem to have kicked the elitist hivemind, which is great. I want them to poke their heads up like it's whack-a-mole, it makes my job easier 😉😉 But yeah, you know. The vocal minority is the only one that ever gets heard, and I'm so sick and tired of it lol, if nothing else I wanted to try and let people know that there are "Veteran" players like myself who don't put up with the bullshit, who calls out the game being poorly designed when they see it. I've said it a hundred times, but MHFU is a great game despite its flaws, not because of them, and it's really funny that I have to even say that at all, but here we are.

Your opinions are fair and honest, and as such, it will always ruffle the feathers of those that are neither fair, nor honest. Nostalgia is poison, and it will make people ignorant of obvious design flaws. Your complaints are valid and frankly, I'd levy them towards the whole of the second generation, not just MHFU. If you play, say, P3rd and MHFU side by side, you can tell a lot has improved (even though P3rd too, has a lot of annoyances), a lot of MHFU stuff is egregious. people are free to like being clobbered, it takes all kinds, but it doesn't automatically give a game's flaws a pass, not in the slightest. Different, but similar example: Mega Man 2 is lauded as perhaps the finest in the franchise by most, a "fan favorite", but you'd be hard pressed to find a more frustrating and poorly balanced entry, and yet the "git gud" crowd drones on... so yeah, that's how things are. 6:44 should be all the proof someone without biases should need to realize the game needed further polishing.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I really do think I'm trying to be as objective as possible, though I agree that some of it is pretty subjective. I'm not making these claims and criticisms purely from an emotional place, I've been playing this game for a very long time and I've made about a hundred or so(?) videos on it, I'd like to think people can understand where I'm coming from with this lol. Yeah, MHFU has always had problems, and I've always pretty much ignored them, they're ignorable, to be fair, Plesioth's hitbox is egregious, sure, but it's not as bad as G-Rank Tigrex, which was bad enough for me to really start thinking about MHFU and MHFU's G-Rank. This game is old, so honestly, it shouldn't be a shock that it's not as good by modern standards, and also on that note, I'm obviously not complaining to expect any changes, the game will never be changed from what it is now, and that's fine, I accept that, but I still think it's worth being honest with ourselves and the games that we love, and really I still like MHFU, I still think it's a good game. But beyond my criticisms of MHFU and Tigrex, the main point of this video was to help others, that's always my goal with videos like this. What the "vets" and "pros" aren't understanding is that these videos are *not* for them, I wanted to make this video to show others that it's okay to be frustrated, and that honestly, in this case in particular, G-Rank Tigrex, yeah, the game just does not feel very well balanced, and I think that's a totally fair and valid criticism to make of a game made in 2008. I don't mean to say anything about the people who play it or the game itself, I still think it's great and I still like it, I've made an entire *guide series* on this game, I think if people are legitimately going to assert that I'm just crying about the game and I'm just bad or I'm just hating on the games/series etc., they need to really re-examine why it's so important to them lol

@@HeadHunter455 Right? my guess is that some games, especially those that are part of a person's life in difficult times, create a form of strong mental attachment. If the person felt relief to their pain playing MHFU for example, they are far more liable to defend it, because in their minds, you are tarnishing their precious memories of the game if you criticize its flaws - it becomes an act of transference. The game's flaws feel like the person's flaws, and thus, to them, it becomes a personal attack. As for the game not changing, yes, it's true for the base game, but there are some cool modding efforts, and I hope someday it can extend to trap placement limits, dung bomb functionality and, who knows, even maybe egregious balance cases.

I haven't seen many mods except FUComplete, but the existence of that does make me excited for any potential future mods. I think it's silly to say, but imagine if my videos helped make MHFU a little more popular and attracted someone to make something like that. Or Capcom saw the appeal and attention and decided to re-release MHFU. I don't think it's likely, I don't think I have that much influence at all obviously lol, but it's a fun thought.

MHFU G Rank Tigrex (and to a lesser extent mhf2 village and high rank tigrex) was designed in such a way that makes me assume they must have been in the prototyping phase for the monster exhaustion mechanic. Tigrex literally one generation later is basically fine because of how quickly his hyper-aggression and lack of openings leads to him exhausting himself significantly faster than other monster types, meaning far more openings for heavy hitters like greatsword. the gen 2 tigrex problem deserved this callout. That old gamefaqs/minegarde era of elitist mhfu players was a nightmare then and continues to this day in new forms. I remember when MHp3rd released and the general opinion was “this game sucks because it isn’t hard like g rank tigrex or the double rajang urgent quest.”

I remember doing the 2 tigrex quest and I would just go up that mountain and die, once you're in G Rank I'd say it's all trial and error on how you tackle the quest. Also, I usually never favored using weapons that slow your mobility against fast monsters.
@HeadHunter455
@HeadHunter455 Жыл бұрын
Paradoxically, I think slower harder hitting weapons can be better against faster monsters, if you can hit hard enough and accurately enough. Since he's faster, and the hitboxes aren't so good, that means he has much fewer openings, meaning that with a weapon like sns or dbs etc. that are way weaker per hit, you need to hit him many more times to kill him, but with fewer openings, it's kind of less safe to do it, you're putting yourself in danger much more often than with something that's slower but hits harder, like a GS. It's not about how fast you move so much as how often you're put in danger, and I think a weapon like GS you're in danger less often, because you can take advantage of openings less often, but when you do, you hit a lot harder. Using GS vs DBs etc. wont make Tigrex hit you for less damage, so, being hit less often is very important. I dunno if that makes any sense, but yeah. I didn't like fighting low rank with SNS or even Hunting Horn, I don't think I'd like G-Rank any more. Dual Blades was fun though.

Once again, I know this video is old-ish but if I may share my thoughts on Tigrex, he is one of my favorite monsters as I always appreciate brute strength but this specific G rank fight was extremely frustrating. Now yes, I am using hammer and Akantor armor...in G rank (I am really only doing this for the looks and a theme)....but the problems about the terrible hitboxes and the "true combos" (basically getting hit and being unable to sheathe and dive before getting hit again) still persist. Maybe I could've farmed for another weapon but I hope I can be excused for not wanting to grind by myself and while playing on original hardware, which also brings me to far and away my least favorite mechanic: elemental part breaks. It creates an annoying cycle of "This weapon needs an elemental damage partbreak item so I now have to farm another weapon which also needs such an item". I'm still having fun with the game but it's DEFINETLY not without flaws. Time to cheese Goldian and then finally fight Ukanlos.

Hey I appreciate the comment! 🙂 It's a complex thing, the MH community, and I'm still figuring it all out, being "someone" online. And I feel similar 😄 MHFU *IS* great despite its flaws, and like you said there's some things I really like about it, in some cases, in some ways, more than the modern games, both in and out of a hunt. Such as how simple LS is in this game, not having to worry about the leveling gauge lol, and same with Greatsword, just having one charge type, no strong or true charge slashes to worry about. etc. (But I do really like the tackle from 5th gen 😉) For context, I picked up the game in 2012, and played it on and off since then. Not sure how long I've played in total, I don't think it's anywhere near yours 😅😅 I do remember giving up somewhere in Nekoht's quests, I think it was against Khezu, but I'm not sure, I don't have that save anymore. I've always wanted to be a supportive and helpful voice for MHFU players of all types. I think part of that is showing my own weaknesses and failures. In a way, I think I'm trying to normalize being *reasonably* upset/frustrated, in a healthy way, because these games can be upsetting and frustrating. It can just be a downward spiral to go from the game, having an awful time, and not being able to find a single person who agrees with you, in fact, it's mostly just a ton of voices saying "The game's easy, actually." or even just "It's not that bad." It can be really discouraging. I remember having trouble in a megaman game, and that's the exact message I got. As for MHFU, when I had trouble with Kirin or Plesioth, I couldn't find any videos to help someone like *me*. I found someone head locking a Kirin and someone rolling through Plesioth's hipchecks, lmao. Impressive, sure, but not helpful. It's a huge part of what inspired me to make this series in the first place. It's my hope that something like this can show people it's ok to be weak and to fail, etc. To be frustrated. It's okay to take breaks and ask for help. It's okay to not know everything all the time about everything. A lot of this is just projection about how I used to and still feel about things, I'm still figuring things out myself, but I think that's okay. I'll be able to more understand and relate to people who are like me, though I try and keep things general when I can 😊 Anyways, haha sorry for the wall of text 😅 Thanks for your comment! And thanks for watching!! 🙂 I hope you're doing well, and having a great time in any MH game you're playing 😄

I haven't put how I feel into words just yet but I did say some in the video, as well as just the example of the gameplay. Basically, MHFU has a problem of monsters burrowing, clinging to ceilings, and charging way too much. When monsters are doing any of these things, it effectively makes them unable to be attacked, in some cases monsters will jump to the ceiling, stay there for a while, trying to hit you, jump down, and then jump back up or burrow (ceanataur is particularly bad in this regard). The rng involved makes the fight a slog at best and just boring and unfair at worst. Tigrex in particular has awful hitboxes and charges too much. I said it in the video but Tigrex's moveset is actually pretty great, as well as his design overall of course, the main problem is the game that he's in, and the hitboxes are awful. The players just do not have enough options to reliably deal with it in this game and as a result, a huge chunk of the fight, I'd say like 70%, is just running around avoiding his charge and looking for an opening. If you're too reckless, you'll just get caught and hit and take 60% of your health off, forcing you to, again, play more passively and find an opening to heal, or leave the area. All in all, Tigrex is just an awful fight, it's boring at best and frustrating as hell at worst. I'd definitely put him on the list as one of the worst in the series, and it's a huge shame because in the later games Tigrex is actually pretty great! Because we have more options and his hitboxes were made fair, because in this game, they are not, just, straight up, he's not the only one with shitty hitboxes though, Plesioth and Ceanataur are ones that come to mind, of course. I keep bringing this up, but if Tigrex was good in this game, Capcom would not have decided to "nerf" him in every game afterwords. They simply made him a good and fun fight in the later games, that's all they did. Also, I'm glad you liked the math bit in the description! haha, I'm not the smartest person honestly, not the best at math, but it's fun to do. I still need to make a ranged damage calculation video, and I've learned a bit since I made the melee one too. To be clear, I still think MHFU is a good game. I even say that in this video.

@@HeadHunter455 The monsters borrowing and such isn't much of a problem since it only affects a couple of monsters and it's only for a couple of seconds before you can get back on the offensive (plus it also gives you time to sharpen, heal etc.). Also you can manipulate their AI to make them act a certain way. You complain about Tigrex charging too much, but if you stay close to him he is much more likely to do the spin tail attack or one of the bites attack. Tigrex makes you learn the importance of positioning in a game that it's all about positioning unlike the newer games in the series. As for the hitboxes, only really his charge extends a bit too far, but once you know it it's not that bad (and it isn't even like at the levels of a Diablos tail spin or a Rathalos instant charge). If you mantain your position on the right, you can roll under the arm as he charges and he won't be able to hit you. You can also avoid the double bite attack this way, but it's harder to do. GS is a good weapon for this fight but it requires top tier positioning. If you don't have the skill necessary it's better to roll with a Hammer, Lance or even LS, which are less efficient but much more forgiving (and who cares about efficiency unless you're speedrunning). Keep up with the series and be sure to take a break if you're not having fun.

Hello, I'm late to the party and I want to say that if anyone struggling to evade then consider getting evasion 1. It's best to focus on having fun first. I consider evading is a high risk with high reward thing, that not being able to evade all the time is normal. This basis is due to the proof that I can't do it consistently. I'm pretty sure the perfect speedrun videos that some people consider it "normal" are made with blood sweat. Probably hours if not days needed to make them.

Another point I have is to not think that having meta set that gives most damage is the only way. Some monsters can be beaten MUCH easier with skills to counter them thus providing better clear times that you can do consistently. Examples are: 1. High wind res on Rath ian/los family, Lao shan Lung, Gypceros family (if lancing) 2. Earplugs on Monoblos/Diablos family, Blangonga family, Khezu family, Rath ian/los family, Yian Garuga 3. Yeah, basically. People got the wrong idea about what I'm saying, which is likely in large part due to how I said it, that's my bad. I don't think rolling through attacks is somehow a bad thing or that people shouldn't practice it for fun and to be better at the game, but I'm not going to expect people to use something that was never necessary up to and past this point and something that my guide series NEVER demanded from players. It's horrible game design if their idea for this fight was to just roll through attacks, since no other monster really ever demands that, and MH never felt like a "dodge attacks or die" game so why start being one now. I was actually thinking of making a short, and maybe some videos eventually, talking more about dodging through attacks and how to practice and work your way up to being more consistent, but the margin for error is so low, so, it's definitely more for disciplined players, which isn't something I expect from all people, but I want to cover it for those who want to take things further. And yeah, using evasion skills is the first step, definitely. And it's exactly how you said, focus on having fun first. Personally, grinding against the very difficult task of consistently evading things isn't my idea of fun, and my goal for this series is to get people through the game, not to make them quit. The mh "veterans" didn't seem to get that. Also keep in mind why I made this video, and that I made another one shortly after as a more "serious" video. This one is more of a critique than it is a guide. I recommend everyone just use Lance against 2nd gen Tigrex because it's so much better.

lmao, yeah, I dunno tbh, I'd love to play through it someday to see for myself, but I haven't had much time. If you're talking about Jakob's video, yeah, he has some takes that I really just do not agree with and can't understand why he thinks that way, or I just don't think it matters nearly as much as he makes it out to, but there are *some* things that are good or at the very least interesting that Dos does, from what I can tell. Monster Hunter 1, Dos, Tri, 4, and World are all the "main" title releases, with MHF1, MHFU, MHP3rd, MHGU, and MHRise all being the "Portable" releases. They all innovate in their own ways and are all fantastic, but the main releases are often more drastic in how they change the foundation of things and how we interact with the world. MH1 is, of course, the first of its kind, Dos has the seasons system, Tri has underwater combat, 4 added verticality and mounting and improved climbing, and World removed loading screens and made the maps more sprawling. They're all really cool additions, I'm consistently impressed by the development team. It makes me really curious and excited to see what they come up with for Monster Hunter 6 >.< But yeah. I think, maybe, some people have trouble not comparing the new to the old, sometimes obsessively. It's fine to be a fan of a series and not be too happy with some things, but at a certain point they just need to either make a compromise or move on. Like I'm sure people like them *love* to say, "It's not for everyone." lol I don't have a problem liking the old games and the new ones, or finding flaws with both, I wish others could too. I guess I just have an issue when people insist that one is better than another. It's just silly.

I apreciate it, I assumed the reception to this video wouldn't be very good but I thought it was important enough to release. I want to be transparent, and if I didn't think this video had a place I wouldn't have uploaded it and would've just complained in my discord or on twitter or whatever. Something that I've always hated was never feeling like my thoughts and feelings mattered. I'd struggle hard in a game and look up advice or how other people felt about it and I'd get a whole lot of "You're just bad" or "The game is fine, you suck" etc. So... I've done it before in a more subtle way, but I want to be a voice for those who need it. It's why I try to encourage people and tell them to not be too hard on themselves at the end of my hunts. In a way I'm speaking to myself, trying to help those like me who need it, it's the only ones I think I can cater to either way. I said it in the video but I think MHFU is a great game despite its flaws, not because of them. Maybe I'll write up a retrospective of some sort, like what JFJ did, but mine won't be completely positive. I know that doesn't sell as well, but it's what I feel like I need to do, to be honest, to be that voice. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, MHFU is a great game, I want people to know that's how I feel, but it's so flawed in so many ways. Nothing can be done about it now, but I think it's important to be realistic and honest about it. There are things in the game that are poorly designed, and there are moments of great design as well. The good design should be praised, and we should learn from the bad design, if only to see how Capcom changes the games to address or ignore them, that's just being a good consumer, or whatever lol, and it's a really good point about venting... You can see it sometimes in how people react to videos like this, like it's not allowed. I've always wanted my community to be a productive place where people are safe to complain about the game without being told they're just bad or that the game is just perfect. I want to help people improve, but they need to feel safe in feeling frustrated, because that's a natural response, and not allowing that will probably just turn them away from the series, and I think there's a lot to love about MH, I want more people introduced to the games, and for what it's worth, MHFU is still a great place to start. Thanks for watching! :)

😄 Yeah, AoU is really good, in this game it also guarantees a crit, I think? In later games Crit Draw adds 100% affinity, so if you have any negative affinity it could be less than 100%. I think. Not sure. Focus is also a great option, but, yeah, I went with this combination of skills specifically so I could TRY and reach the breakpoint for Tigrex's head. You can do this much easier with a VERY specific weapon, but it demands you fight Diablos a bunch for it. Speaking of which, I should probably make an addendum hunt using that, just to show it. I'll put it on my to do list... haha

I know I already commented, but I just want to say it's so validating and refreshing to hear this point of view. So often if I express frustration with older games mechanics and monsters, and admiration for the new games, I get derided by a large section of the community. And I love the old games to death! There's a certain slice of MH fans that don't actually care about fun gameplay, they're after some sort of status from playing an old hard game. Weird folks.

That's perfect, I honestly do want to be a voice that helps validate how people feel, because I know exactly what you're talking about and I feel and have felt it so often :/ Part of being encouraging is allowing people to be frustrated when they're not successful, without letting people feel that way, they will not be able to grow. I know that from firsthand experience. People act as if I'm adverse to getting/giving advice or that I don't want to improve or don't expect others to improve, they're literally ignoring the fact that the game is not perfect and in some cases *very* poorly designed. I DO want people to get better at this game, it's why I make these guides, I want them to experience and enjoy it, but god damn, sometimes the game is just too much haha. I think it's absurd how straight up toxic so much of the MH community is, it's everwhere, Twitter, Reddit, KZbin, Discord, everywhere, and it's been since the games first came out, you can find it on the GameFAQs forums and such. It's a vocal minority, but I want people to know there's people and communities like mine who won't just take the shit the game throws at us, who sees the games for what they are, very good and very flawed. I hope that people can find my voice at the very least and feel a little more validated and that keeps them motivated to keep playing, rather than to stop, because that's happened to me so many times. Thanks for watching! 🙂

Not gonna lie, I do hate Tigrex for how annoying the fights are. Crappy hitboxes, very fast speed that most players can't even react fast to it, and ofc, the damage. I've always wanted to be a voice that can help others not feel alone in how they feel. I think it's really not helpful to *not* address the problems in the game, or to pretend that they don't exist. It seems like the only thing people say about this monster and this game is that it's perfectly fine, and it's just really frustrating because even now that I've played the game for so long, I don't think I'm that bad, but this fight is *still* frustrating and annoying, and the strategy to beat it seems so extremely specific that I can't help but feel like it was accidental and not purposefully designed, but I can't say for sure without actually knowing how or why they did things. I want to be supportive and encourage people to get better, and part of that is showing them my own failures, that I'm not perfect, so it's fine if they make mistakes or even fail as long as they keep trying, and that honestly, with some fights, it's really not a skill issue, it's just pretty poorly designed. If it wasn't poorly designed, they wouldn't have "nerfed" him in the later games, because there would've been no need to, and I trust Capcoms future balancing over anyone saying this is the pinnacle and perfected MH design lol And, of course, the purpose of my videos is to help people get through these quests without needing to use highly advanced mechanics like i-framing, because I don't expect people to do that consistently, as much as I recommend them to practice it. I came close to rage quitting the game because I hate it when I have to actually resort to traps or tons of buffs (mega demondrug, power pills, max/ancient potions, etc...) or mass combining mega potions. I understand that I'm supposed to get hit and drinking a potion, but I don't want to live in fear of having my supplies gone and restarting the quest. Also fainting once makes me mald if it's not my fault (aka hitboxes, calculated stuns that makes me go from full health to 0, goddamn roars when the monster attacks before I can move...).

To clarify: when he turns around I dodge to the left or right, but when he charges it doesn't matter because his 3rd outer claw counts as a hitbox which is fine I get it, but can't I dodge a second time a little faster? I'm sure this happens in every single Tigrex video I've made, so, you're literally wrong there, I don't know how you can say that Tigrex doesn't charge you when you're close to his head. You should fight him more, maybe you'll learn something. "Veterans" and "pros" are doing things that is unreasonable for average players to do. To imply that using i-frames is just something people should put weeks into learning is asinine. People have lives and other shit to do, spending hours and hours learning how to combat a single shoddily designed boss fight with some specific method is not something I'm going to recommend. People play games to have fun. If a fight has very little margin for error, it's not fun. "It gets good after 100 hours." Well, maybe they should just move the part where it gets good a bit closer, so it doesn't take someone 100 hours to finally appreciate the game. That's bad game design, plain and simple. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJXbdoiCZp2sibs You're a clown, your opinions are not wanted here, and your statements are objectively wrong. Like, give every weapon something that can deal with a monster that does nothing but charge all the time... I dunno, is that just me? lol It'd also be a lot of fun for 1st gen players because Monoblos was the "end boss" of the village quests and they charge a lot too. I just feel like if Tigrex was in a good place in MHFU, they wouldn't have "nerfed" him in every game moving forward. If Tigrex was designed thoughtfully and with care to what players can and are likely to do, it would be fine, but I really think they designed the monster first, which is a good design all things considered, and didn't consider much about what the player is meant to do to combat it. I would love to see the developer or someone on the team, any designer etc. actually fight Tigrex, in both low/high and G-Rank, to show us just what they intended as a solo player, because without that, I cannot believe that they designed him with any regards to an intended method of fighting him, and any strategy that does work wasn't fully intended and is just luck. You can make your monster intimidating and fearsome while still being fair. Arch Tempered Velkhana, in my opinion, is a good example of that, but I don't think relying on insane damage values is much good either.

Tigrex in Fu constantly charges nonstop and deals a ton of damage, he's also faster. In the next generations they kind of toned down Tigrex a bit, removed tracking when he charges, added a couple of new moves instead of running from line to line, and gave him the ability to get tired and start drooling. I wouldn't say Tigrex was "harder" in FU but I guess he was just much more infuriating.

FU Tigrex is faster and significantly more damaging than later versions of the monster, has a tracking charge attack that he really loves using, really meaty HP for something you cant hit too often and is also unaffected by Dung Bombs because of how it works in this game specifically. Honestly, most of his difficulty comes from the hitboxes and questionable design choices for not only the fight, but the game in general. (Point made in the video) In later generations, with hitboxes and certain mechanics being a lot more polished (like Dung Bombs being universal, refined hitboxes and monsters having stamina thresholds from 3rd gen and onward), as well as some notable nerfs (no tracking charge, slower speed) and additions to Tigrex himself (more variety in his moves than 2nd Gen), he became a significantly more manageable fight in every sense of the word, even if being fought in an Online Lobby like the guild hall. If you get hit occasionally by a FU Tigrex, likelihood is you can no-damage a later generation Tigrex as soon as you get used to his new moves. That is how strikingly different they are.

Greatsword does a bunch of damage per hit and I'm also using a couple of skills that increase the damage a lot, most notably is Art of Unsheathing which increases any unsheathe attack by 25%, which is 1.25x, so that helps a lot :P I hope you're enjoying the game! I have a bunch of guides for all key monsters in the game, so, if you're ever having trouble or are just curious maybe check them out :) Thanks for watching! 😄

iirc GS has distance damage multiplier, I just noticed since you're too close when charging next to Tig's tail and got hit few times coz of it. in older mh games, you have to count tople/flinch threshold, new mh could just ungga bungga it then done.
@HeadHunter455
@HeadHunter455 2 ай бұрын
sure. not sure if you looked at the description at all, but I definitely know how the damage calculation works. There's a sweet spot modifier for LS and GS, apparently, where hitting in the middle of the sword will affect your damage. But I've never really been able to see it work, so I don't really care to factor it in. And if you really came here trying to defend the shitty 2nd gen Tigrex fight, you should go somewhere else and come back when you've figured yourself out.

Man, fishing for those headshots seems like good damage but way too tedious for me. Usually when I hit walls this hard I try to consider picking up and learning a different weapon that would let me exploit openings better than I do now. I know thats not the point of the video but its more advice for people in these comments who express simular frustrations.
@HeadHunter455

I mean, I made a video using Lance that went way better, it went up practically immediately after this one, this video was more meant to validate and encourage people that the game isn't always well designed, there are ways around it and they shouldn't give up, but I wanted to make it clear, like, this game is from ~2008, you know? There's a ton of vocal minority saying how MHFU is a perfect game and if anyone doesn't think so they just "don't get it" Well if I haven't got it after many hundreds of hours, then maybe there's not much to get? For G-Rank Tigrex in particular. I've already told people that you should try and look at unfairness as something that you could've done better, that any unavoidable death is avoidable if you just go back far enough to find your mistake, to fix it for next time. It'd be useless for me to just repeat myself endlessly, I want to let people know that unfairness will crop up here and there, and it says nothing about them or their skill. I can imagine it being extremely disheartening to have come all the way to G3 and then be hit with Tigrex as if you haven't improved at all. That's just not the case. I appreciate you trying to give advice though, it's good advice! :)

Fair tbh lol, in this gen, monsters that are too fast and oppressive with seemingly no safe spots around them are really troublesome... lol I remember on my HBG video someone replied saying "This isn't a HBG video this is a flashbomb video." Dunno what to tell them, but Flashbombs were put in the game and affect Tigrex in the ways that it does, so I'm definitely going to use it. The more I play the more I realize the utility of Flashbombs and how to actually use them. Don't see it as a handicap, it *really* isn't, it just stops Tigrex from charging around all over the place, you still need to react to and avoid his attacks, but now he's not moving all over the place and giving you no reliable openings to hit him. Consider it an item tax lol, they're similarly effective on Rathalos/Rathian and Mono/Diablos and Kushala for various reasons too.

Honestly yeah, Tigrex's first iteration just isn't very good. The monster design and its move set is honestly fantastic, it's great, but the game that it's in and the answers we have for the problems Tigrex gives us just aren't good enough. His hitboxes are also *TERRIBLE* I'd even say that Tigrex in p3rd is good, it's just this early on, Tigrex isn't a good fight due to everything except his moves. I keep saying to people, if Tigrex in MHFU is perfect, then why did Capcom bother to "nerf" him in every single game after it? I'm going to trust Capcom's decisions against any tribalist/elitist saying that MHFU is the best in the series because it's harder. Oh, but it's still "fair", of course 🙄 lol Thanks for watching >.

i remember him being a wall back in the day. the Village Urgent Tigrex was the biggest wall in my experience, it's like a month or 2 then i decided to play a different game on psp. After those times the guy who introduced me the game taught me to use GS and do the same thing you doing here like after his charge or what we called "rush attack" we do the lvl3 charge then when he is enrage we tend to go other map until he is not enraged. after that win it makes me play it more and more (alone) until i got to grank and that's where the hell started. from Old maps that seems everything is big until to Ucamulbas (Ukanlos). i was used to play 30-40mins in 1quest and it feels normal to me back in the day. now we have Sunbreak a 10min quest is like a very long one because we can do more damage, a past pace quest and still monster took that long to live before it dies

Glad to see I'm not the only one to hate Tigrex. For me, the mob is poorly balanced and therefore extremely frustrating. The mob is both agile, damaging and displays stupid hitbox, making it virtually much more artificially difficult than it should. And please, the dammages you take from it only turning around toward you... - Plesioth's absurd hitbox is balanced with its lack of actual charge or fast, spammed gapcloser. Making it a comfy prey for distance weapons. - Gravios is difficult but you can go through the legs to avoid attacks - Diablos has high risk high reward weakness to exploit with its tail exposure to shot dammages - Even Narga's agilty is balanced with "tempered" dammages, opennings on some moves... And the big dammage move is not a basic spam. Tigrex ? Let's choo choo around the Map and having no counter. Average design with too high stats. Same with Rathalos' instant charge when you're basically at its feet, which is absurd.

But then there's Tigrex. lol I think Narga is better but has some issues for sure, and I think I totally understand the Blangonga hate haha, it's pretty oof, especially some weapon match ups.

As far as I can remember, Tigrex outside of MHFU is honestly a decent fight, but I haven't gone as in depth in other games as I have with this one, just going off the general vibe I get from playing casually. I seem to remember, at least, having a lateral fade slash in p3rd making Tigrex a lot comfier, along with exhaustion and I'm assuming a slower version of him in general, and tighter hitboxes helps too :P

I will never understand Capcom and Tigrex. Why couldn't they make Tigrex fun? They "kept his identity",fuck that! He's fight is fucking infuriating,even more so than Barioth jumping across the fucking map like a kid high on sugar. All he does is just charge and spin around like a bayblade. And,call me crazy,but i think they made Rise's charge hitbox wider. That or they just made his charge track you idk...Which is a shame,cause he has a cool design,but the fight in itself is just awful. Tigrex has to be my least hunted monster in both Rise and Sunbreak.

Yeah, I think Tigrex definitely has some versions that are better than others, and I think it's natural in this game that some weapons will have a much easier or harder time against certain monsters... but even still. I haven't looked into other games as much as I have with MHFU, so, I can't say much beyond what I can remember. I do know for sure that MHFU Tigrex is some shit lol, and I'm glad they at least tried to address it in the later games.
@UFOToaster
@UFOToaster Жыл бұрын
The biggest problem is,they try to keep his identity way too hard. In the OG day he was "The Freight Train" and yeah,him charging towards you like a maniac that can not be stoped gave a good first impression...but this is Monster Hunter,a game where you hunt a monster a thousand times to get their materials and stuff. Tigrex triple charging across the fucking area 12 times on a farming spree is just infuriating and honestly it's just a bad design. I wouldn't complain if MH was still in it's oldschool style,but in Fifth gen and,i dunno if my copy is cursed or something,my Tigrex's usually do nothing but spam that awful triple charge. SnS is nimble,but not as fast as a building sized derp raptor running at the speed of sound... Honestly,i have no idea where i'm going with this mini rant...Tigrex sucks and deserves to be deleted along side with Rathalos,idk Fuck Capcom i guess xD
