I do not see any reason for the Panther´s retreat.

Youre the only functioning vehicle left in your roadside task force, you dont have infantry support, you just took several hits to your crews optics, the only sensible option is to retreat to a clearing or regroup with reinforcements at your rear...... OR you could stay there, get flanked by another platoon of shermans, or get bazooka'd in the side by a scouting element..

Why are the Shermans huddling up together like that? Three shermans can take out a Panther or at least immobilize it by spreading out.

Shermans used to often drive single file for a long time until they changed tactics later in the war due to results such as this.

Frog - How in the HELL does a Panther's high-velocity gun not destroy a Sherman at point-blank range? I saw 2 Shermans still alive from that platoon.

@@FroggyFrog9000 Okay, just askin'. By the way, at that range, the German 75mm gun would've gone thru the sloped frontal armor of the Sherman - and out the back end of the tank. That's how good that gun was. Great video Frog! Keep 'em comin!

Moist-Mike well Sherman’s do have pretty good crew survivability and it might have wet ammo storage, and the Panther might have been using purely AP shells pz40/41?

@@HappyFlapps Depends. If the tank itself is angled to one side, the Germans had done ballistic testing which found all but the _KwK 42_ and _KwK 43_ (and the prior at only very short ranges) would be incapable of penetrating the _M4_ frontally.

I learned from Military History Visualized that an average of 10 rounds from 88mm gun were expended per tank kill in WW2. Idk how many were misses and or lost outside of combat, but maybe some tanks don’t die completely even after a penetrating hit.

M4 beat what it was designed to beat. Once it became so very very very obvious that the air war was key, R&D shifted away from armour to aviation.

Given my realistic perspective. That Panther would have been knocked out after receiving several hits from a 75mm even if penetration is not present on it's armor and armor failures such as Spalling might occur. Also in another note is that the lower hull and the turret face were vulnerable to the M3 75mm at that range.

From a realistic perspective a panther crew focus in Shermans Turrets because have less effective armor, if you can pen the enemy turret you shot over it because you kill gunner-commander and maybe destroy the gun leaving the tank like a MG armored mobile bunker. The core of casualties in tanks in WWII come from turret hits because until last models appear turret was not specially well armored, see the PzIV example, more armor in hull over turret that was specially weak.

It is not that the Sherman was free from these problems. Sherman's can also suffer from cracking welds and brittle armor. HaVoC117X First Source: That was an ordinary armor penetration but no signs of crack welds. The Americans gave out examples of Armor types from soft to higher Brinell to USSR during the time when the US were using Early-War Sherman’s. Second: Panthers can be very effective when they fight alongside with Infantry in the Battle of Herrlisheim. 2 Panthers vs 21 Sherman isn’t a possible win for the Germans if it weren’t for the German Infantry Reconnaissance and their Artillery and Anti-Tank Guns.

el sherman no tenia ninguna posibilidad de vencer al panther su cañón y blindaje eran muy inferiores. d fue un carro mediocre que ganaba en batalla X cantidad de unidades. sls.

El de 75mm a distancias normales de combate no, el de 76mm a distancias normales de combate tenia mejores opciones incluso que el T-34/85 por tener un cañón mas preciso, con mejores ópticas y un mejor proyectil antiblindaje... eso sin entrar en la munición especial. Pero no hay que olvidar que para derrotar a un panther no hacia falta destruirlo, un proyectil HE podía dejar inutilizado el cañón por lo que el panther se volvía inutil. Otro punto es que el panther era un gran defensor, un vehículo que era magnífico cuando estaba en su elemento atacando blancos a distancia bien cubierto... cuando pasaba al ataque tenía los mismos problemas que el resto de tanques, de hecho en el vídeo a esas distancias incluso el Sherman con el 75mm podía bien con el ... 3-4 Shermans con 75mm podían superar a un panther a fuerza de concentrar sobre el una mezcla de HE y AP a unas distancias mas respetables pero a quemarropa el 75mm tenía opciones incluso frontalmente aunque claro está tenía que afinar mucho donde apuntar.

xavier es posible Lo que señalas pero si dieras elegir entre tripular un panther o un sherman no dudaría ni un segundo en elegir el panther por presencia blindaje y poder de fuego. igual muy buenas tus precisiones de que conoces el tema. sls.

@@andreswagner5120 si a mi me diesen a escoger también preferiría estar en el Panther pero claro, al final los combates no son duelos de pistoleros al sol y siempre entran otros factores que minimizan las ventajas técnicas de unos y minimizan las desventajas de otros. Un punto importante es también que Panther lleva uno porque los modelos finales que estaban mucho mas afinados que los iniciales (creo recordar que las unidades de Panther tenían más vehículos operativos de media que las de PzIV) tenían un blindaje de mucha peor calidad lo cual reducía notablemente la protección blindada resultante y lo mismo se puede decir de la munición. Lo que si es cierto es que le Panther era una mejor plataforma antitanque que el Tigre aunque este era mucho mejor como vehículo de combate en general ya que su 88mm ofrecía un mejor proyectil HE el cual era lo que mas usaba un carro de combate en la 2ªGM, por eso el Sherman con el 75mm se mantuvo hasta el final de la guerra aunque había disponibles la versión Jumbo con su 105mm mas util para apoyar infantería pero menos útil VS carros de combate.

@@xaverdeskreuzes4546 si Sr. Es correcto lo que indicas. había una versión de sherman con 105 mm pero en las filmaciones de esa época se observa casi siempre el carro común con el 75 mm ese me parece que era un cajón de muertos en contra de los Tiger y panther. Así lo atestiguan los tanquistss aliados veteranos de normandia sobre la desventaja en todo sentido que tenían contra los tanques alemanes pesados en esa épica batalla. You do realize that Planes were useless against tanks right? The RAF made a test regarding that subject and stated that out of 94 rockets fired on a stationary tank were not a single hit. CAS against tanks was bloody useless at that time

I've never had problems deal with the Sherman in the Panther I made a Sherman AI pop it's turret once about the Shermans in video that don't looked destroyed the as bale out.
