So the bass is tuned B D A D G? The whole time, I used to think the bass was tuned regular B E A D G during this era (pre In Waves), and the low D was played on the B string.

I wondered what the tuning was because the guitars are played in Drop D. I think he's in A standard A D G C F. He's definitely playing open A's and D's on the bottom two, so it makes sense that the rest would be tuned a step down along with them.

How do you get such a metallic sound with finger style ??? I play bass with very thin picks and the sound doesn't even get close to this.

It could be the way he attacks the strings, and possibly the effects he uses. I thought Frank Bello used a pick for years but amazingly, he doesn't. You'd probably think Geddy Lee did as well.
