From the magnificent Ponnelle film. Even if Figaro is not my favorite Mozart opera (and it is not, far from it), this film has me lost in admiration for the director and performers. Montarsolo was a Ponnelle favorite, and here he justifies that preference with acting and singing of the highest standard. Begg, one of the two greatest Marcellinas of my lifetime (the other being Patricia Johnson on Böhm's Deutsche Grommophon recording) plays off Montarsolo beautifully, with that typical Ponnelle touch of having the chatelaine get progressively more aggravated with the doctor's megalomania, as well as having Susanna overhear their machinations. A beautiful performance by two old pros. Thank you, Manoi!

Heather Begg might be my favorite part of this film. Everything she does is hysterical. These two together was a magnificent choice
