This is Behind the Counter at a Local Japanese Portside Tuna Restaurant in Misaki Port 2 hours south of Tokyo. It's a maguro tuna speciality shop, Kurobatei, nestled for more than half a century in the heart of a local Japanese fisherman’ town. The shop serves ultra fresh sashimi and their signature maguro dishes. This Japan hidden gem restaurant offers a dining experience with the freshest ingredients, passion-infused local craftsmanship all with a warm family vibe. We even visit the the Misakoi Port fish market which has been the lifeblood of this port city for over a 100 years and designed as a wholesaler market, you’ll rarely see restaurant owners here. But Takuya and his family take exceptional pride in being able to select and server the freshest and highest quality fish available to their customers so you'll find them at the market every morning. The family even participates in the Fish Market Tuna Auction. It’s also, where Takuya’s grandfather made a name for himself as the Number 1 Maguro Fisherman in the industry during his time. It’s an uncommon practice to eat the tuna’s more unconventional parts like the throat and jaw, but here in the Misaki area, it’s a local specialty often eaten in the home, as it’s a the technique that was developed by their local fishermen. Apparently during long voyages at sea, the Japanese Tuna fishermen would enjoy the lesser-known parts that usually don’t make it to the market and would cook it with an international culinary approach with spices gathered from their trips around the world, resulting in their own unique tuna fusion style cuisine.

Paulo, can you do a follow-up video on the daughter in a year? There were so many interesting people in this video, but the daughter certainly captured our hearts. I'm rooting for her! I wanted to give her a big hug and encourage her to keep it up. The learning curve has to be steep in a specialized business like tuna bidding, even if it's a family business. Can't imagine the pressure she's feeling, and what things she will discover in a years time. What a brave woman to share her story.

I love these videos so much. The family seems so great! I'm really rooting for the daughter, I'm sure she'll eventually be great at winning the fish she wants. I'll definitely visit this restaurant when I come to Japan!

I’m guessing this is the sort of video that encourages me to keep learning Japanese. Lovely family, and I hope she gets her Tuna next time.

I am from India, and I am a big fan of Paolo. I have been watching his videos for a long time. But never in his videos have I seen a Japanese family that gives off a complete family vibe, as he previously covered many family-owned restaurants. I watched this video with a smile throughout, like I enjoyed every moment. This video is itself an anime. A great dad, an awesome grandfather, and his grandkids. There's also a very cute cameo by the owner's daughter's friend. For sure, the owner's daughter will master tuna buying. By God's grace, if I ever had the chance to visit Japan, I would definitely go to this restaurant and try their awesome tuna dishes. Great video, Paolo! An awesome job, as always.

Hey mate, this is one of your better videos! Storyline is the same a.k.a "behind the counter," but wow, what a story this time! So many facets and each more interesting than the last. Yes, I agree, (in the dark recess of your mind) perhaps you should look for other sponsors, bro. Love your videos Paolo!

A lot of people interviewed on this channel don’t seem to sleep much - I hope Japan can change culturally because sleep deprivation is bad for mental health.

I wish LA was like Tokyo , in regards to the low levels of crime and the outstanding customer service ,it seems like workers in Japan take pride in their work , here, customers and workers (not all ) but rudeness and attitude and shoplifting are everywhere
