The INSANE Story of Papa John’s business by MagnatesMedia: Papa John’s franchise has over 5500 locations globally, revenues reported at over $2 billion dollars, and is one of the most successful pizza fast food chains in the world. And so it may be hard to believe that Papa John’s started out of a bar’s broom closet, that its founder resorted to dumpster diving in hopes of getting customers. This is the untold truth of Papa John’s Pizza business empire, and the founder who made it all happen… The Papa John’s story really began when a young 15-year-old kid by the name of John H. Schnatter got his first job washing dishes at a small Italian pizzeria known as Rocky’s Sub Pub. But John wasn’t content with just dish washing and set his sights on making pizzas from his first day. After months of hard work, the Fondrisi family who owned the restaurant allowed John to start occasionally preparing the pizza dough and tomato sauce, but they adamantly kept the honor of baking pizzas within the family. John was determined one day to run his own pizza business, but he’d have to wait quite a while to get the funding he needed. In fact, Papa John’s would actually begin out of a bar. And it’d be years before John could get the financing needed to create the first proper Papa John’s store. In this Papa Johns documentary, we follow the rise of the business, the very unconventional marketing strategies to get more customers, and the controversial twist in Papa John’s story. This business story is a rollercoaster of emotions - enjoy! (Produced by John Frazer. Co-written by John Frazer & L.D. Murphy). #Business #Entrepreneur #Magnates #documentary #businesses #company #papajohns

🔥I know some of you have already claimed this deal, but if you haven’t, moomoo has agreed to extend it a little longer… Get up to 15 FREE stocks here: magnates.media/freestocks - read the terms for the full info, but basically you can get 1 free stock just for opening an account, then up to 15 free stocks depending on how much you deposit (you just need to keep it in your account for the promo period, but then after that you can withdraw it again if you don’t want to invest it). The free stocks are all worth between $3 - $2000 EACH! So if you get the full 15, that’s an absolute minimum of free $75 worth of stocks (which you can sell for cash if you prefer), and obviously some of the free stocks are gonna be worth more than that (hopefully a LOT more). This is currently just for US citizens. But if you’re in Australia or Singapore you can also get $10 cash for simply opening an account using my link above! And hopefully moomoo will be expanding to more countries very soon. But KZbin analytics says the majority of you are in the US, so hopefully you can make the most of this free stock deal while it lasts. :)

I don’t agree - many videos here are flashy, while not containing much in the way of substance. It may SEEM that way, but anytime this channel covers a topic that I am educated on, without fail I see that the information used is very superficial - this Papa John’s video for example, contains zero information you can’t find from a simple Google search. The dumpster diving was the “deepest” bit of info in here.

I used to work at Papa John's as a driver in Dallas, you could easily make over $55,000 a year equivalent until Papa John's kept trying to cut cost at the customers and employees expense. They pushed hard for you to favor Papa John's on your 401K saying that it always goes up but they tried to avoid downturn but cutting cost, drivers could take two deliveries at a time which did not work in busy stores so orders would go late and they wanted managers to cut labor. The reason behind the 2 orders at a time was to keep drivers on road more making $4.50 instead of $7.50 when in the stores. UberEATS and door dash would have hurt them anyways but it was sad to see them self destruct bringing down such a good thing.

I was a driver till i fully retired in 2015...so 2011 till late 2015...made good money till around 2013/2014 when John became more and more vocal on political stances he tried to push onto people...being in a blue state customers simply boycotted the store...before that time i easily made around 75-100 in tips and delivery fees..think we got a dollar per delivery plus tips...luckily being in a blue state my hourly didnt waver in store or on a run...so i made i think 8.70 when i started and 10 when i retired...(increase of min wage) so usually i would make about 75-100 then my hourly on top...but when he became so vocal i was only saved due to the fact i was a closing driver so was able to keep my hours and still have some decent runs after the rush drivers left...the business plummeted though and the store closed i want to say in 2016-2017...second issue was the pay for in-store...the asst store managers made maybe a dollar above min wage and store managers didnt fare much better...lost 2 good store managers in my time and only takes one bad to ruin a store...cant have a successful business if the spokesman disenfranchises have its customers...so for me and my store Johns ego ruined us

@@GodStillHatesUs I just got done working a closing shift at Papa John's. We have door dash as a driver on our screen where I'm at. At any time we can use them to help us.(we use it a lot during dinner rushed and busy times when not many drivers are in too. Have opened with no drivers and only door dash too, like when someone calls in it's a great backup. We have very dependable drivers here that are here in minutes because we give them good runs too. Most ppl just don't pick up orders if there's no pre-approved tip. Which is understandable.

I worked for papa johns from 2011 until a few months ago. From being on register only to delivering, then back inside making pizzas.. managing.. then I became a GM in 2017. I quit this year. You want real hard facts? John was the company. Hate him or love him, he made the company what it was. It has been a steady decline since 2018 when he was ejected. The only thing that saved PJs was covid. Corporate greed slowly downgraded food, upped expectations, they upped waged while shitting on the General Managers. Now they spawn out new products that make life more and more difficult on the instore workers just to try everything possible to stay afloat and try to hold on to what covid brought in... For real. You want to talk about the company having shitty pizza? John had standards and had people from corporate coming monthly, and at random, to make sure stores were holding their quality standards. There is no standard now. It's slowly going away because veteran GMs are being ran ragged and shortcutting to not lose their minds, and most are quitting. So those standards that were ingrained in us are disappearing from the stores, because we were the only ones that still pushed them.

That Hamilton Ohio location my family ordered from opened around 94' I think - and I remember when it did, because my dad refused to order from anywhere else. Right next to the laundromat we used and across from the nickel, dime and quarter candy store and generic video rental store. Great times. Our age has reached a conclusion in the wake of arriving at its zenith. The downturn and financial exchange crashes are influencing everything, not simply FTX and 401Ks. My retirement values portfolio, at $750K, is bleeding cash. I'm continually losing because of expansion. This world will disintegrate under its authoritarian rulers, similarly as. Assuming you are contemplating resigning yet are concerned that your annuity won't take care of the increasing expense of living, I am sorry. As an Ex Manager of Papa Johns in Austin Texas I can say that the quality control was at its best during the pandemic. Unfortunately the higher ups don’t care how much or how hard or even how smart you work. All that matters to them is being able to sit an look @ numbers instead of actually helping the employees that are being over worked. We had a location close down for remodeling an they made our store make pizzas for carryout and delivery outside our delivery range. It’s was like a Super Bowl game was on every night for 2 weeks. We were forced to DoorDash pretty much every order outside our normal range. We didn’t receive the workers from the other location, not even the GM of the other store. It was hell for everyone in our store. An the best part? No bonus for our GM because of “The DoorDash Fee’s” Needless to say pretty everyone quit an now only 3 people work to make pizzas there along with the store that got remodeled. They cut Business hours to close 11pm when we once went to 1:30am. We couldn’t get them to budge when we were being over ran but now it’s okay? I really hate them tbh

@@The.Philippines.Joe. ...Four years & you never realized that the reason why they treat employees like shyt was because of the bonus system ??? ...Because they're only making $35k a year, they're desperate to hit that sweet, sweet bonus money... ...And if someone makes a mistake, they don't nurture & train them to be better: They act out like a Spoiled Child that didn't get their way !!!

Side-stepped the part where John becomes a meme of a sloppy drunk. Ironic given the early part of his story.

The price of going mega huge leaves you open to hostile takeover. I understand that John is ambitious and a high risk high reward kind of guy. If he would have settled for less and remained a private company this would not have happened. The other thing, you have a right to say what you want and people have a right to react to what you say too.

15:40 Yep, absolutely moronic advice. Going Public isn't about raising capitol for expansion at all... It's a strategy to pay off the initial investors. Furthermore, it's said in the video that *_Papa John's_* was worth $344 million in one day, but what they conveniently failed to mention was the amount of capitol that they raised with their IPO.

I like the way you take film clips when describing situations. Big fan of Goodfellas and Spiderman to name a few. Would like to see the 90 minute version of these Presentations. OMG - pretty soon someone will be doing a Rags to Riches film on you guys! Thank you for entertaining and informing us Viewers.

Papa John's is still the best national pizza chain. Pizza Hut has actually gone downhill, in terms of ingredients, and Little Caesars is only cheaper because they have almost no variety. Not sure why Domino's became popular for a brief time, but I would assume because they competed with Little Caesars on price, yet had more variety. I always thought their pizza tasted horrible, though. 💁🏻‍♂️🍕🤷

Dominos did a brand-wide revitalization campaign a few years back, that included all new focus driven food options and a campaign that basically went "we're sorry we made crappy pizzas all this time...please let us make it up to you with GOOD ones"

Not entirely illegal. Anything you throw into the trash that is kept outside is not protected by privacy laws. Also, mail order catalog businesses sell their mailing lists to other catalog companies. Credit card companies will sell information as well.

The only good thing about papa Johns is they hire anyone into management positions and offer overtime year round due staffing issues. You can literally make $3500 every 2 weeks in Denver just delivering pizza and collecting tips plus OT if you’re up for 10 hour work days 7 days a week

Actually, PJ was sued by Pizza Hut for false advertisement over the tag line "better ingredients, better pizza" and initially won a $12.5 million award that was overturned on appeal in 2000. So, not much of a joke 🙂
