When Pope Francis visits Ireland this weekend, he will encounter a very different country from his predecessor Pope John Paul, who visited in 1979. Attitudes to the Church have changed in Ireland, its once-powerful influence damaged by clerical abuse scandals - and some victims of abuse are calling for the Pontiff to apologise to them directly. Sky’s Senior Ireland Correspondent David Blevins reports.

A key aspect of cultural identity is a will to fight to preserve aspects of that identity but I would certainly now not have any motivation to fight or work to uphold Ireland. In its present form . I feel for the catholics in ireland. In case of India, we are also facing huge faith crisis. From corruption to sexual abuse cases. The root of the problem is Power and Money. Still, there is a faith and powerful daily witness amongst Ireland's Christians that I'm not surprised were down-played by this video. I don't think the church in Ireland is all moaning rosaries and nice-nasty rhetoric. The church will change in Ireland because it must and the laity will hopefully assert more as in the US. I think those bishops should all resign who knew of abuse and the Irish church should speak out against abuse and do public penance in practical ways as we in the US are being asked to do. Things must change and the Holy Spirit is moving in Ireland like everywhere else in the cosmos, let's just pray that true and righteous faith will be strengthened.
