What we like to do in South America is use it to tenderize BBQ steak by taking like 2-4 drops of the green papaya sap and mix it into your marinade. But you gotta be careful though as leaving it to marinade for too long or adding too much can cause it to just fall apart on the grill:)

Papaya Seeds can be dried (baked) then ground into pepper. It's milder than regular pepper, but is excellent taste. I prefer it over regular black pepper.

Thanks so much for your video. I was just having a conversation with my wife who always wants Papaya for her digestion problems and she was telling me you can't grow papaya in central Florida. I live in Brevard county and can't wait to grow some papaya here. Also didn't understand all the other ways you could use the fruit for noodles, etc. Great information, I appreciate it! I would like to take a trip down there from Rockledge to check out your farm one day.

Your advice for planting makes SO much sense to me as someone who moved from NY to FL. The seasons feel so much different. Early winter in FL is like fall in NY. Late winter in FL feels like early spring in NY. Spring in FL feels like a very hot summer in NY. Summer in FL can't be compared to any season in NY. In NY, you have the chance of seeing snow 7/12 months of the year, and hail in the other 5. In FL, you have rain and sun at the same time, and the sun is trying to burn everything. I had to create a greenhouse style canopy with sunscreen mesh to reduce the UV scorching on my more delicate plants. I learned my lesson when I lived in Miami... even breeds deemed to be 'sun loving' keeled over and died in that kind of light exposure. I can 100% see the sense in when you said in the summer to plant like you're in Central America.

Lauren, there are spots in N.Y. that reach 8a, becuase of the Atlantic Shelf, that stretchs from Florida all the way to the Bite of New York Harbor. It becomes an increasingly thin and barrow strip of land up the east coast, but i know people in Marths Vineyard, who grow things they have no business growing that far North. Along with appropriate microclimates, you'd be surprised at what you can do. I'm in Maryland, SE of Baltimore...because the cities residual heat, along with my placement on a penninsula and a SE direction from the city. In 8a, with nearly 8months of growing season. I'm also big fans of Josh, Pete, and Adam...lol Esp Adam. I have Jaboticaba (sabara and RH), baobabs, Green Sapote, Annona, bananas... I have a 6 yo Miracle Fruit Tree that I grew from seed, it comes in only 1 month of the year. I know Florida sorta has a lock on this very tropical weather, reminiscent of the Neotropics....but stuff can def be grown elsewhere with a lil help and care. Push the limits!! And grow away lol.

Thank you for sharing such informative video on papayas. Delicious fruit. It has anti-inflammatory properties besides being rich in vit. C, beta carotene, and fibre. In my neck of the woods, we use unripe papaya to make pickle called atchara and also as a substitute to chayote in some chicken-based soupy dish called tinola.

I've lived in south florida for 40 years thinking I don't like papaya. Tried it again recently and I love it! Problem is when I first tried it, it was too rip. Tastes totally different from just ripe (green with a little yellow) to over ripe (yellow). Now I can't get enough. Pickled papaya from totally green fruit is amazing.

Hello, Good Morning.. I am just going to suggest about the Green Papaya, I grow them when I was young, my mother cook them in Coconut Milk. Cut up your papaya for Stewing size. Sauteed your slice onions, garlic minced, and ginger roots if you also add lemon grass, you can use chunk chickens, or ground, hamburger, or beef, pork, or even shrimps. or cut up salmon, ( just don't over cook salmon,) or any fish or seafood you like, you can experiment and which one would you like best. I bought Papaya here and cut up and freeze the rest. If it's ripe we eat it in one day. Or make smoothie. and it's good too. My grandson likes it coz it's sweet. I toss the seeda in my garden and when it bigger I just a turn in into compost. Right now I am experimenting the one papaya plant as it has bloom. Thought I covered it if t's going to last to spring. It was t late to buy Green House for it. But this coming month, I will try to order it from Home Depot or other place I can order it.. I don't like ordering on line.. Viewing from the Midwest... love your Channel. I want to see what else you will post here, I know a lot of plants and cooking. I lived in Florida staying at my friends my Oldest kid was born there. Hello Pete We grew some papaya from seeds in a local grocery store. Do some grow but never flower? they are all 6 foot tall with no blooms. Is this normal since we are growing in 10 gallon pots

They do better in the ground long-term. But most all that I started from seed have flowered. They do like some good light.

He didn't mention that you need to allow the seeds to sit in some water for a week or two. This gets rid of the outer layer so they germinate better.
