Paper chromatography | Principle | Procedure | Development techniques | Applications
principle involved is partition chromatography wherein the substances are distributed or partitioned between liquid phases. One phase is the water, which is held in the pores of the filter paper used; and other is the mobile phase which moves over the paper. The compounds in the mixture get separated due to differences in their affinity towards water (in stationary phase) and mobile phase solvents during the movement of mobile phase under the capillary action of pores in the paper.

You explained well but in paper chromatography the stationary phase is not a paper.. that stationary phase is water because in that we have to use paper that paper contains cellulose layer so water immobilized around the cellulose granules of the filter paper.

Nope. In paper chromatography, the piece of paper that is placed in the solvent is stationary phase while solvent is mobile phase.

@@bioscience6853 yes solvent is the mobile phase.... But paper is not a stationary phase... Reffer upadyay.upadyay.nath book biophysical chemistry and clinical biochemistry books.

@@akshithas0613 stationary phase itself should be porous solid in form. In other cases of chromatography lets say silica, aluminia. In the case of paper chromatography, paper will be the stationary phase. You can refer any other books or any other websites except the book you preferred. Thank you
