@davidm.kesslerfineart17172 жыл бұрын
I don’t varnish my acrylic paintings so I can’t help you with that. If you want to varnish your watercolors, you can do that then you don’t have to frame them under glass. You need to use spray varnish. This is important, you need to use gloss spray varnish in 4-5 coats, then finish with matte varnish. If you use matte for all layers, they will build up into a hazy finish.

Is there a cheaper paper for a beginner to start out on?
@davidm.kesslerfineart17173 жыл бұрын
Steve, as a beginner, you probably won’t start out using a full sheet to paint on - you’ll probably use a quarter sheet, 11x15 which will cost about $2.50. Now keep in mind you will also be able to gesso over it to paint 2 additional paintings on the same piece of paper (3 paintings total) which brings the cost of an 11x15 piece down to .83. I think that’s as cheap as you can get.

@davidm.kesslerfineart17174 жыл бұрын
Maraya, As I said in the video, gesso will seal the paper’s surface and give you the same surface as canvas. It also allows the paint to sit on the surface and not absorb into the paper. Because of these reasons, using gesso will make it easier to paint, but you don’t have to use it.

Cab we use acrylic paint or fabric paint on simple A4 papers used for printing purpose? Or we have to buy these special papers for the painting??

I cannot answer that because I don’t know what A4 paper is. Experiment with it - that’s the only way you’ll know if it works.
@RoseDragoness4 жыл бұрын
I think they mean normal photocopy paper. You can use acrylic or textile paint on simple A4 paper but they are too thin and too absorbent to make a good quality painting. The color become dull, paper break from water, paper become crumply from water, etc etc... it is really a bad idea although I did it years ago (So it still doable, but you get low quality art and wasting your precious paint). At minimum, use watercolor paper...
@ClariceAust5 жыл бұрын
I like that there's no animal products used on the sizing. You focus on the Fabriano Artistico paper so much, but I couldn't catch the type of board you fix it to, nor how you affix it. Workshops I've been too say that you should gesso the back as well as the front and this is better. Is that right for this paper?
@davidm.kesslerfineart17175 жыл бұрын
Clarice, there is never a need to gesso both sides of paper! Amazing what some “instructors” will tell students. I use as a backing board corrugated plastic. It is lightweight and easy to transport. When painting with acrylic, I simply tape it to the board. If painting in watercolor I don’t secure it at all. Thanks for watching!
@ClariceAust5 жыл бұрын
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 Sorry David, it was 'box board' that the artist recommended using and she gessos both sides. The 'box board' is the cardboard that bookbinders use; it's cheap and it works really well with acrylics. Very easy to transport, too! Sorry, my mistake for saying 'paper'.
