Question-do you have any trouble with cracking on the paper, or do you seal the paper to panel? 300 lbs is gorgeous paper. Love your unfetteredness!! Such an inspiration!

Great tutorial, Bob. Thanks. Your gesso brushes; are they synthetic or natural bristle? Thanks again!

Gesso brushes are synthetic.

do you use gesso too in paper to warm ups?

Do you have trouble with gesso drying on the rim and making it hard to open the lid? Is it okay to add a few drops of water to keep medium and gesso from getting dry? I love your videos and follow your channel. You have taught me a lot.
@RobertBurridge2 жыл бұрын
Hi Minna, First of all, thanks for watching the BobBlasts! About your gesso question - before I replace the gesso lid, I wipe off any gesso that is on the rim. If you want to add a few drops of water to your gesso and medium - that is fine.

Hello! I love this video, but why do you gesso the paper? for a more smoother effect? I am an acrylic painter! Is that what you paint on top of your gessoed paper? (I also REALLY love a perfect smooth surface, hence why I'm curious..) Also since its 300 lb, it doesnt curl right...? Thanks so much for the video
@raerae6422 Жыл бұрын
Ungessoed watercolour paper is super absorbent, so it wants to suck in your acrylic paint and its water content as you paint your first layer. You will use a lot more paint to cover the surface and it doesnt brush on smoothly. If you gesso the paper first(at least 2 thin coats), it creates a seal over the w/c paper and the paint will then glide over without being sucked it as you brush. Less paint used. Blending/ gradients are easier if needed on the first layer too. Also, the gesso is more inexpensive to use for coverage and it has the tooth that helps othe next layer adhere well.

Do you recommend applying gesso with a knife? (On paper)
@RobertBurridgeBobBlast3 жыл бұрын
I use a brush or a piece of cardboard and squeegee it on the paper.

Sir i hope you reply my comment, is this thick gesso application going to make me lose my paper texture to the gesso texture?
@RobertBurridgeBobBlast3 ай бұрын
I am happy to reply to your comment - Yes, the gesso application on watercolor paper cancels out whatever is under the applied gesso.

I recently painted a garden scene. I made some errors so I gessoed over the parts I needed to improve. Unfortunately the acrylic paint would not stick. It seemed dry but as soon as I touched with a wet brush the paint came off. What did I do wrong?

What is acrylic paper?
@SpottedBullet6 жыл бұрын
@@RobertBurridgeBobBlast She's talking about things like "Strathmore 400 Series Acrylic Pad" which is pretty much exactly like watercolor paper. They also make pre-cut Canvas pads that are sheets of real canvas, which is what I use instead.
@chansen05316 жыл бұрын
The brands I have used in the past are Strathmore and Canson. It is 246 lb paper and does not absorb the pigment like watercolor paper.
@DrummerGrrrl6 жыл бұрын
@@chansen0531 That's why you have to gesso watercolor paper. Watercolor paper is designed to absorb watercolor paint. Acrylic paint will sink into watercolor paper and that's not what you want. Acrylic paint is a plastic polymer, when dry and looks better on the surface of a canvas. Gesso forms a barrier between untreated canvas and acrylic paint. Hope this helped explain it a little bit better. Your paper won't curl anymore if it's gessoed.

Bob, is this effective on 140 pound paper ? Not everyone can afford 300 pound paper. Glad I found your channel. Thanks Dave M ( Australia )😎🇦🇺

Thank you for your comment - I get so many questions from people who are new followers... and I do agree that I have revisited subject matter to accommodate them, rather than giving then links to the previous videos. My hope is that I show something a little newer, explain things a little differently to keep the info fresh. We always try to alternate painting demos with product recommendations - again, to keep the info fresh. Thank you for enjoying my BobBlasts - they are free and you always have access to the entire library of 229! I hope you will continue to visit in the future. Best to you, Bob
