I think you should have kept papers in liquid nitrogen for longer time. Like the A4 papers were still freely bending when you put them in. You could try to cool them for few hours at minimum or even more to make them so that they don't bend when you hold them from 1 corner.

I appreciate the safety warning at the beginning. Too many people fail to realize the danger of liquid nitrogen or dry ice. Not realizing that it quickly wants to become a gas again. It will dilute the oxygen levels if you're in an poorly ventilated room and can kill before you know what's happening. Safety First!

Air is already 70% nitrogen, it would an awful lot of it before you would ever need to worry about it plus it's inert. CO2 on the other hand is more dangerous as it can be absorbed back into the blood as its binding to hemoglobin is only slightly lower than oxygen.
@vincenttrigg45212 ай бұрын
@@user-cb3qr9dt2kyeah but there's a lot being used here. Liquid nitrogen is very condensed so evaporating into a gas takes up more area and thus less air to breathe in. The biggest problem I'd think is you lose too much oxygen to function and then be unable to escape
@MarcoTedaldi2 ай бұрын
@@vincenttrigg4521one liter of LN2 makes about 700l (npt 1000l) of gas. The bunker has a volume of about 40m³ I guess. So 1l of LN2 will get N2 content up maybe 2.5%. From 78% to 80.5%. And 1l LN2 is a lot. What we've seen coming out of the books was maybe 0.2l... Nope, not an issue but better save than sorry!
@Harald.2 ай бұрын
@@MarcoTedaldi I disagree. When evaporating, you have close to 100 % nitrogen in the air near by. Nitrogen is lighter than air, so until blended into the air, the concentration of nitrogen will be higher, further up in the room. You would not die from lack of oxygen in that room, but it can make you do stupid and dangerous decisions.

Anyone who has chopped frozen wood and non-frozen can appreciate and fully support your theory for the next video. Frozen wood splits all the way through easier as it cannot flex and the axe impact is transmitted the full length of the piece. I would expect bigger initial resistance and sudden failure (we all know what this means in Lauri's vocabulary)

6:59 The book isn't actually "wet" in the usual sense, even though it may look like it. When you soak a book in liquid nitrogen and then press it, the liquid nitrogen can appear to flow away from the book, resembling water. This occurs because the rapid phase change from liquid nitrogen to gas creates a brief liquid layer that looks like water, but it's actually cryogenic nitrogen. While this liquid may visually mimic water, the book itself does not become "wet" in the traditional sense because nitrogen does not have the same properties as water regarding adhesion and wetness. As the liquid nitrogen evaporates almost instantly upon contact with room temperature surfaces, the moisture-like appearance is primarily due to the nitrogen transitioning from liquid to gas. The book may feel cold and frosty, but it won’t have water on it unless there’s condensation from the surrounding air, which could freeze briefly but will likely evaporate quickly.
@NoobixCube2 ай бұрын
Even if it isn't "wet" in the traditional sense, it's still interesting that the books seemed to carry so much liquid Nitrogen in them. I thought the books would just get cold, and any moisture would be just water condensation from the air. I was also really surprised, with the postit notes, to see it clearly flowing out via the edges and not the corners. That's the kind of thing that, if you saw it in a movie, most people would think it was an animation mistake.
@haileymccurry37562 ай бұрын
i don't think anyone was saying the book was literally soaked in water, my man. People are saying 'oh wow the nitrogen looks like water, how funny'
@NoobixCube2 ай бұрын
@@haileymccurry3756 I think his use of the word "wet" here isn't at people saying "this is water", but it's in the very technical chemical sense of the word "wet". Of course, water is not actually very wet at all (something chemistry teachers love to say). Surface tension stops it from wetting things efficiently.

@ni_wink842 ай бұрын
Paper isn’t without water, it isn’t anhydrous being wood pulp it absorbs moisture and needs more time for the nitrogen to freeze the water stored in the cells of the wood, because of this the “water” stored in the cellulose of the wood fiber causes the nitrogen to stay “liquid” as it bonds to the hydrogen in the water molecules, as it is pressed out just like any gas under pressure, it changes state, when the books are pressed the nitrogen again changes state being surrounded by hydrogen and molecularly being forced into a smaller space where it again is restricted to its escape, that’s why it is off gassing with no pressure and looks to be “liquid” being pressed, the molecules are being forced to tightly pack with water molecules and the water is displacing the heat of compression, “latent heat of vaporization” the pressure is causing the nitrogen to return back to a liquid state then immediately boils off after being pressed from the paper. Same reason propane is a vapor until it’s compressed or any HVAC equipment in operation sees a gas go from gaseous to liquid in a sealed system PRESSURE!
