Goombario's Log Day 28: Holy moly! Toad Town is under fire now! Shy Guys are running rampant among the town stealing everybody's stuff. Frying pans, calculators, dictionaries, and mail have been stolen. Shy Guys are disturbing others in their houses and place of business. They even were messing with Luigi for crying out loud! Oh, but one good thing we learned from Twink is that the next star spirit is in a place called Shy Guy's Toy Box. Could that be connected to all the Shy Guys in town? Kooper's Log Day 23: Yikes! There's Shy Guys everyone in town! And what's worse is they're stealing people's stuff. What use do these guys have for frying pans, calculators, dictionaries, and other peoples mail anyway? One of them even tried to yoink my shell. But I bashed him up good. Steal my shell once, shame on you, Steal it twice, shame on me. I sure hope we deal with this immediately instead of going around the world doing side quests again. ... Right? Bombette's Log Day 22: Those little motherfuzzies! They think they can just waltz into Toad Town and cause chaos whenever they like? Ugh! Anyway, besides that we spoke with the boos from Gusty Gulch to see how they were doing, along with a lone clubba in Tubba's Castle. We also saw Luigi and saved him from a Shy Guy. And then we found his secret basement where he keeps his diary. Reading through it made me feel upset that he can't come, but also glad he didn't seeing as he's big scaredy koopa. Much like another Koopa Troopa I know. *wink, wink* Parakarry's Log Day 17: Those broozers! They stole our mail from the post office. That is a federal crime they just committed there, and I will not stand for it. On a lighter note, I managed to find Franky and give him his letter, then I gave Fice T. his letter, and then I gave Dane T. his letter. Now it looks like I need to find a red Yoshi kid in Yoshi's Village. So that's all the mail delivery for today. But it could be my last if I don't get those letters back from the Shy Guys. My career is at stake here, I can't fail now! Bow's Log Day 6: Woah! Toad Town's in a real scare today. And here I thought our monthly scare session wasn't for another week. But whatever. Those pesky Shy Guys are stealing everyone's stuff and causing a ruckus. Perhaps coming along wasn't that great after all.... Naw. Coming here was the best thing to do. You would not believe all the boos that start fawning over me wanting to be husband. I'd tell them to drop dead, but they're already dead so I can't say that. If I'm ever going to let a man into my life, it'll have to be someone who likes me like a friend. Not like a 'Lady' which has boos drooling over my beauty. *sighs* But that's a discussion for later. All that matters is saving the Mushroom Kingdom from disaster. *sitting in Mario and Luigi's House* Goombario: Thanks for letting us stay here Luigi. Kooper: Toad Town was in such a mess we needed a quiet place to rest up for the day. Luigi: No problem. Make yourselves at home. I will prepare dinner for all of us. Be right back. *leaves* Karry: ... *looking down, thinking* Bombette: Hey, Karry? You okay there? Karry: Yeah, I'm, I'm fine. I mean, our mail has been stolen by the Shy Guys and if we don't get those back and deliver the letters in a timely manner I might lose my job, but I know we'll find a way to get them back. Kooper: I don't think that's what she meant Karry. You've been quiet ever since we freed the star spirit. Goombario: Other than delivering that letter to Franky and the others, you've barely said a word today. Karry: Look, it's just. There's been a lot on my mind right now. Bow: *appears* And a little something on your cheek. Karry: AHH! *falls out of the chair* Bow: AHAHAHAHA!!! Got 'cha! Anyway, I'll be outside if you need me. *floats through the door* Goombario: Oh, I get it now. You've been thinking about Bow's kiss. Karry: Look, it's just. I've never, and she's like, and I'm just, why me? Why of all people would she go and kiss me? Bombette: I mean, you did save her from being eaten by Tubba Blubba earlier. Karry: Yeah, but you guys got her out of Tubba's clutches. I just distracted the guy. Not to mention when those boos blockaded the door for us to escape, I didn't see her giving them a thank you kiss. So why me? Kooper: Look man, I have no idea. If there's one thing I've learned on this adventure, is that women are... Bombette: *stomps on Kooper's tail* Go on, you were saying 'what' about women? Kooper: That, women are, strong, intelligent, independent warriors who do what it takes to get the job done. Bombette: *still standing on his tail* Thank you. *lets go* Karry. Why don't you go and talk with Bow. Karry: Na uh. Absolutely not. No way, no how. Bombette: Ok, fine. Then I'll ask her. Karry: What? Bombette: *gets out of the chair* You just sit tight okay. Grab his wings. *leaves* *Karry frantically tries to catch her, but Goombario and Kooper tackle him to the ground and pin his wings* Bombette: *smirks* Oh, this'll be fun.

At least Lady Bow said that, while she wasn't sorry for the ghosts scaring him all the time in the past, she would tell them to from now on knock it off against Tubba specifically.

Honestly that's why in my opinion at least, Tubba's more likable than TTYD's chapter 3 villain Grubba who is also a Clubba. But while Grubba enjoyed bullying people weaker than him, and sucked the lifeforce out of them. Tubba just wanted some peace and quiet and was driven to evil by the Boos tormenting him. As much as I praise TTYD for all the stuff it improves on, that is one element that in my eyes, was done better in this game.

@@KlaviceGavin I feel that the reason is so that Gruba isn't the same in character ways as Tubba. Tubba is a big softie at heart while Gruba puts up a front and is truly a horrible person that deserves punishment for what he did. I think both are good characters in their own way.

God, I love Bowser's animations in this game! - I cannot believe I predicted that Emile would pick easy enemies AND that he would do it because nobody else does. (Even I never did! My first playthrough I was honest, then I took items every run after that.)I will take that 2/3! - There is one person Emile knows who has never LPed this game, and you KNOW he'd pick the Pokey precisely because he hates it... - Kammy's smart, why does she just go with it? She clearly doubts the princess, so she could have just been like, "Oh, I'll give him a mushroom...a POISON ONE!" - Who knew there was so much to do in Gusty Gulch post-chapter? - Well, Luigi, it'd be a shame if you starred in a series that involves ghost hunting...

One small change I love that happens after beating Chapter 3 is the music that plays in Boo's Mansion. It becomes so much more playful and why shouldn't it? They're safe, no star spirit is being held captive, time to have some fun. Also I love Star Storm. It's such a great screen nuke and it really shines in the next chapter.

Chapter 4 is pretty ingenious. Turning toad town on its head by incorporating it into the actual dungeon of the toybox by gatekeeping most of the support (cooking, shops, post office, etc) is really cool and puts emphasis of the importance of the hub as a whole

I can relate so hard with the Pokey story. Recently tried to find footage from Xenoblade X of fighting the optional enemies in Chapter 12, around... That thing, to keep it spoiler-free. Some people fougt the enemies that were immediately in their way, but absolutely NO ONE fought those further back. I was documenting all enemies in the game and in the end had to rely on my instinct and the datamine for which enemies are used or not. You'd thing anything in a game has been done by someone on the internet, but nope.

The badge system is seriously brilliant. As a kid, I barely used badges except to give myself new FP moves. I dumped my stats into HP so I could stay upright while I chipped away, and it worked fine! But for older people to be able to play around min-maxing and discover things like danger strats is just amazing, without making the game too complicated for tiny me.

I think my favorite part of badges as an RPG mechanic is being able to back out of a decision quickly... and for free. Your new combo didn't work as you wanted? Just change it. Meanwhile, my other favorite RPG series forces you to forfeit entire Levels everytime you want to change your skilltree :/ And some others don't even do that, in the "I hope you're psychic and have realised you've tossed an easier win against the final boss out of the window, 40 hours early, lol" way. IIRC, one of the mods also lets you save multiple badge set-ups, hopefully that returns in a potential new game/mod/spiritual-successor.

I tend to have very mixed feelings when it comes to mainline Peach (Team Daisy #1!) but I was so excited seeing that this episode starts with Paper Peach. She's such a badass, and she's amazing. She's clever, capable, and doesn't let herself feel helpless. I love how she's written and I kinda wish main series Peach was more like her.

Mainline Peach IS like that. In fact this is even why she’s like this in this game. She just only allowed to show it in the spin-offs than the main games. Notice how in a Mainline Game (Super Mario Land.) Daisy was kidnapped and was just like Peach. But in spin-offs she has character. She’s a sassy tomboy. Peach and everyone else is the same way. Wario and Waluigi are goofy in Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, and Bowser has funny dialogue in the spin-offs like in Mario And Luigi RPGS. The mainline series is more centered around the main plotline of Bowser kidnapping Peach and Mario has save her, while the spin-offs such as Paper Mario give more character for the reason why you should like said character. The problem comes when the mainline plot comes into a spin-off. The best example I can say is you guessed it, I mean PAPER MARIO STICKER STAR. They brought a Mainline Plot into a Spin-Off. Which is why Bowser has zero dialogue and Peach has no personality and she’s just the damsel.

When I played this game for the first time as a kid, I did the Jr. Troopa fight in Forever Forest after defeating Tubba Blubba, and then immediately went back to Toad Town. Obviously, right after Jr. Troopa gets happy about getting out of the forest and runs away. But right afterwards, because of the different music followed by discovering the Shy Guy riot, as a child I always liked to imagine that Jr. Troopa got mugged by a Shy Guy as soon as he entered Toad Town.

In hard mode mods when given the choices as peach, there's one of a really hard enemy called anti-guy and there's dialogue where he says you choose to fight me well have fun it's great.

While I didn't make videos of it, in my original playthrough way back when the game first came out, I did pick each of the 3 weaker enemies during the Peach segment here. My line of thinking was that I was convinced Bowser would surely be suspicious if the helpful item was chosen, and he'd decide for himself to go with with the stronger enemies in that case.

Whoa, I saw SullyPwnz, Tom Fawkes, Game Grumps and lucahjin in that clip of Paper Mario LP playlists. When I played this game I went for the harder enemies for EXP; I didn't know you could lie and get items instead, although it did lead to an interesting Super Grover joke when my sister and I were dubbing Chapter 4. That Shy Guy stealing Tayce T.'s frying pan always boils my blood. She's literally one of the sweetest characters in the game and they made her sad. Hmm... did chuggaa want to make a joke about greenhouses when he said the Toad with a crush on Minh T. was getting "steamy"? Feis T's reaction to the letter from Bootler always makes me laugh, especially since the player knows he's a pushover when it comes to his mistress. Speaking of which, expert execution of Spook yet again in this episode. I never knew about Gusty Gulch inhabitants having anything to say after Tubba Blubba ran away, and of course, more surprise dialogue bits with the Toads in Toad Town. Hooray, another one of my favorite chapters is starting soon, and it formally begins with Twink telling us we won't need to travel far at all to get to the Shy Guys' Toybox.

@@LilDemona the game is weird if you don't meet him for the first time the game defaults to an introduction cut scene unfortunately this can only happen once as far as im aware meaning there is one for each partner character and since Emile viewed the one for goombario he can't view the others

You reach the midpoint of the game and they take away an extremely useful resource that you've gotten accustomed to, stripping away your "home base" and turning it into any other area in the world. PM 64 is the Dark Souls of Paper Mario games.

Merlin's house and the Toad House in Toad town both have shy guys troubling them btw. Also as an additional note: In Prologue, Bowser mentions that Koopa Bros Fortress holds the closest Star Spirit to Mario. But the Spirit in Shy Guy's Toy Box would've been closer.
