Thanks everyone for watching and supporting the run! I had a blast getting to show this off for AGDQ and I hope we put on a good and enjoyable show for you all! Thanks again GDQ for allowing me to show everyone how broken this game is and I hope to be able to perform another run for a future event one day! 💚

Never seen a speed run of this but I saw it come up on my feed and made sure to set it as a reminder to watch on Sunday evening when I finish work. Take away ordered and a few ciders and this speedrun is a good start to my rest days.

Hey YoshiZilla! Fantastic run! What was the name of the person who does the commission art for this game again? I want to get a Pennington piece made! He's my favorite.

Thanks for the awesome run, Yoshi! I just finished my playthrough of the remake today and I was so excited to finally get to watch this run without having to worry about spoilers. Congrats on the Paper Mario: TTYD Any% + Math Lession + Flavio World Tour world record, too! Can't wait to see the category take off.

It's crazy that Teleporter Room Early took nearly 6 minutes of attempts for Yoshi to hit RTA, but it's such a monumental and game-breaking trick that there's no option but to keep trying until you hit it. Way to go man, spectacular run all the way through

much love to the gdq team uploading these runs so quickly. i made sure to wake up for this run but didn't last long

This runner is so wholesome and seems so happy to be there. He just has this big smile on his face almost the entire time and it warms my heart. Makes the run so much more enjoyable to see someone truly enjoying being there and explaining and executing the run. Great job! Great commentary from the couch too.

fantastic run! ttyd is such an iconic speedrun to me, so it's always so cool to see where it's gotten to at a gdq. seeing first try palace skip in a marathon like this was so hype. I had such a shock when yoshi mentioned being 21 and starting when he was 13. I totally hadn't realized I'd been keeping up with ttyd speedrunning for so long! 😂 I remember when he was the youngest runner and just breaking into things, and look at him now. proud of you dude!

30:25 I remember it being 'frog' instead of 'cricket' when I played the demo version at Target way back when. That discrepancy always seemed odd to me.
@GhostKumo10 ай бұрын
Same reference I had. Back when it was still under the working title of Paper Mario 2 and hadn't yet been called TTYD.
@ReySilverskin3 ай бұрын
As I understand it, they changed the text to "cricket" because Japanese frogs sound different to what Americans expect, or something like that. The remake changed it back.

Wild how they talk about the cricket and frog fx badge and then the remake came out with the frog fx

Loved the note about OSTs compared to Fire Emblem due to the shared dev company; I still distinctly remember watching the first Origami King trailer and thinking the castle music sounded *so reminiscent* of some Radiant Dawn music. Excellent run and great commentary!!
@GhostKumo8 ай бұрын
Yup, Yoshito Sekigawa worked on both Origami King and Radiant Dawn (in the latter he was credited as Yoshito Hirano but later changed his last name when he married his wife Chika Sekigawa, who was one of the *other* composers of Radiant Dawn. Fun fact.). But you can go up and down the Paper Mario titles and find overlap with the contemporary Fire Emblem composers of that game's era given both are IS games.

This game came out in 2004 and not 2001. The original came out in 2001.

And it's also not a Wii game
@WhirlyBeepBoops10 ай бұрын
The year thing is a valid point, but as for the console thing... some Wiis can run GameCube games. They very well could be using that.

Who’s excited for the remake of this game? I know I am.
@DementisXYZ10 ай бұрын
@AyyMJ they always put what console its being played on, not what it originally released on. That's why a lot of ocarina of times runs say "Wii VC," for example.

Am I crazy or did y'all forget to shout-out Malleo at the end? If so, holy crap, shout outs to Malleo!
@GhostKumo10 ай бұрын
Yes, absolute huge shoutout to Malleo! I think I just forgot to do so because it was 3AM during comms and I was just fighting back tiredness, but also he was so integral I probably just assumed it happened without realizing it didnt. But yeah, hugely important in the finds of Palace Skip and the original Ultra Hammer Early, and worthy of a shoutout as well.

At 2:06:25 the couch says you cannot get more than 100 star points in a fight. This can't be true because I once had merlee double the points on a 54 point battle from farming Dry bones and got 108. Guess it's just really rare to get over 100 or needs merlee's spell

What message did they name the file in Japanese?
@GhostKumo10 ай бұрын
The filename says アキラメナイデ! Which, although technically using the wrong script (mostly for flavor reasons) says "Akiramenaide!" which basically translates to "Don't give up!" Unfortunately the Japanese version doesnt let you put Roman letters in the filename so I had the idea of putting something in for the Japanese restream and Yoshi seemed to like the idea.
