I don't know if changing it to crickets was more clear, but that's what they did. Since the new sound is very clearly a frog, they probably changed it back because they had to. This doesn't sound like crickets at all. So I wouldn't see this as evidence that they intend to make a more faithful translation by itself, but they will probably change other localization decisions from the GC version either way. I wouldn't be surprised if various timing windows were adjusted. The CRTs we had on the GameCube could display a video signal instantly, while modern displays have a slight delay.
@DefinitivNichtSascha7 ай бұрын
Well if the game only runs at 30 fps instead of 60 fps now, that would probably change the Superguard's timing window. It was 3 frames in the original (so 3/60th of a second). Of course, inputs can still be measured independently from how the visuals are output, but they might not have gone through that trouble and changed it to either 1 (2/60th of a second) or 2 frames 4/60th of a second, which would be either a bit more or a bit less difficult to perform, and knowing Nintendo, they'd rather go for the less difficult option. The Hooktail-Frog thing is probably born of necessity rather than being deliberately more accurate to the Japanese version. See, the sound that the original game used for this badge was that of a frog species native to Japan. For Japanese players, it logically sounded like a frog. But the translators thought that English-speaking audiences might not make the connection and that they would maybe think it sounded more like a cricket instead, changing the text accordingly. (I grew up playing the German version and it had always been a frog there.) Now that they had to redo all the sounds, they also went with a different frog sound, which sounds more distinctively like a frog. There would be no more confusion about what the sound resembles and thus no need to change the text.
@memekyu_memes7 ай бұрын
Hey, I was just wondering: in the hooktail fight (7:22), I feel like we see Mario and Koops guard her firebreath and it looks like they are blocking way too early and it still works. Do you think they actually made guards easier too? Or maybe it's an option to make them easier or they got 20 simplifiers equipped... What luck I have to still own the original in case they did... Or do you think it's just displayed differently somehow? I just can't get the question out of my mind.
@Namadu77 ай бұрын
@@memekyu_memes BLUF: the guard timing window seems *at least* 25% to 50% larger than in the original, at least based on my frame-by-frame analysis of this video. ----- There is a difference in visual feedback to the player. Ever since Sticker Star, Mario's pose would change as soon as you hit the A button, then would change again a few frames later to show that the successful guard timing window had ended. It seems like that's the case in this game, too. So, we can check exactly how early they pressed the button! Running the video frame-by-frame (can do it on a PC keyboard with the . and , keys), it looks like there are 5 frames where Mario and Koops are in their guarding pose before the frame on which they're hit, implying that the guard lasts for at least 6 frames total. The original game apparently gave 8 frames, but also had double the frame rate (except in the PAL release, I think), so the 30 FPS would be 4 frames. So yes, the guard timing in this video does seem at least 25% to 50% more lenient. It could be more. ...I wish I knew where to find the Simplifier guard frame data*, because now I'm kinda curious about how lenient it could possibly get in the original. *EDIT: Two Simplifiers will increase both guard timing windows by one frame, according to jdaster9's blog "The Super Mario Files". Three Simplifiers increase it by two frames, but it's not possible to get three legitimately in the original game.
@115zombies9357 ай бұрын
Same thing with the badge for supercharging, it would have to be twice as effective in this game. So if they made super guarding a 2 frame move in this game, with the badge it would be 3 frames with just one badge. Thats the equivalent of 6 frames at 60fps in the original which is almost as easy as the regular guard, and with two of those badges it would be the exact same timing as the regular guard. If that’s the case then the new game is going to be VERY easy.
@Namadu77 ай бұрын
@@115zombies935 Supercharging? Do you mean Simplifier? According to jdaster's blog (The Super Mario Files), in the original game, you need two Simplifiers in order to add one frame to the Superguard (and Guard) window, and the second one is only available after chapter 6. I think the reason some of the timing for moves is different is likely because it might’ve been frame-based (though maybe not), and the Switch version being 30fps instead of 60 could’ve done something with that
@cinnamintie7 ай бұрын
I assume timings for things will be slightly easier in this version, if only to account for the new 30fps running. For example, a superguard had a 3 frame window to perform on GCN, but at 30fps that'll have to be halved and rounded to 1 or 2 frames, which I assume they'd round up to a 2 frame window. Though I guess if they poll inputs between frames they could keep the timing at 1.5 frame window, but I don't know of any nintendo games that do that.
@chowdaire73436 ай бұрын
I believe it's been reported that timing is not tied to frames. All inputs are calculated based on an internal timer that operates outside the frame rate of the games visuals, so inputs may still be bound to a 60fps timer that essentially counts two input frames for every one visual frame.

Hooktail has not been changed, the english translation team probably just messed it up in the original. how do I know? Cause I played the english and german version and in the german version it has always been a frog she almost choked on. Here's another fact on the translation. In basically every translation Doopliss is called "Rumpel", why? simple to represent his origin cause you could say he was inspired by the tale of Rumpelstielzchen which is a german tale, which could mean doopliss might be facing a name change.

nostalgic tunes badge sounds like something charlie would stock, but the other option that isnt just a secret to find would be part of the initial stock of the badge shop, but even that can be a little obtuse with the featured vs regular inventory. Ian Famoose heavily suggests that the trouble center is getting adjusted, but to what extent i cant say. If he is an alternate hint system not exclusively helping with troubles, i also wouldnt be surprised if he moves in after the building is opened, but can be found elsewhere prior.

First thing is immediately not true. You can switch partners from a short menu outside of battle and outside of the main menu. The Switch version of this just seems to streamline it more than it originally was. Additionally, Goombella has always had the mentioned special ability which is great, but having this ability even while other partners are out is a welcome addition for sure.

Is super guarding made even easier in this game? The original timing isn’t possible in the remake (it was 3 frames at 60fps, at 30fps that would be 1.5 frames which isn’t possible and would have to be made 1 or 2 frames at 30fps) so they’d have to make it harder or easier. Plus they’d have to make the badge for it twice as strong too. The balance is going to be really whacky because of the remakes much laggier frame rate.

Wish you guys were able to find out if players can accept more than one trouble from the Trouble Center. When you think of tedious backtracking in TTYD, the Trouble Center's one of the biggest culprits. Being able to accept multiple troubles at once would be a HUGE improvement. ... Which probably means it's not happening. I'm also going to disagree with you, Ash. I think the fact that we're a month out and have heard nothing about new content like what SMRPG did means we're not getting any. Nintendo proudly advertised the new boss rematches for SMRPG. I don't see why they'd be silent on something similar for TTYD. Especially with such a dry news cycle.
@Onoesmahpie7 ай бұрын
Ttyds backtracking is not that bad. There is a room under rogueport that takes you to every major location, and visiting rogueport throughout the game always gives you something new to see/do. I genuinely don't understand why people complain so much about this

@eclipse97276 ай бұрын
2:19 I remember this detail striking me as odd, as it very much was stated that TTYD would be around the same difficulty as the original. However, now that we knew the game is running at 30 FPS, it makes a LOT more sense. The devs knew that timings would be messed up due to the framerate change, so they eased on them to potentially match the timing of the original with less frames. If this is the case, then no matter your stance on the debacle, the devs care A LOT to try and get this game done right. Even with all the changes.

That's what I think would justify this remaster too.
