In this video I chat about the types of paper I've most used for fountain pens over the past 7+ years in the hobby. Toward the end of the video I show you several of the channel contributions made by pen friends, pen pals, and viewers of the channel which are next for me to try. Big thank yous and appreciation goes out to everyone who has introduced me to various fountain pen friendly paper over the years! We will see if any of the "new to me" papers replace my beloved Leuchtuurm, +Tomoe River 52 and 68 gsm paper and if I find any journals (A5) that topple my long standing habit of finding the best hardcover A5 journal (lined) for the best price.
I couldn't cover every single paper I've tried because the list is very long. But I do talk about how I arrived at the current papers I use for:
bullet journaling (Leuchtuurm Bullet Journal 120 gsm paper)
ink journals (Old Stock Bond Travel Gear 68 gsm Tomoe River paper + Lochby 68 gsm booklets)
long for writing journals (variety! tend to get expensive hardcover A5 lined notebooks that are reasonably fountain pen friendly. Plus I still use CVS Caliber made in Vietnam notebooks for process journaling and for book notes.)
planner (For the past 2 years I've used Hobinichi Weeks but I find the paper is not what I want for a planner and I may consolidate weekly spreads back into my bullet journal going forward)
pen pal letters (heavily gravitate toward 52 gsm Tomoe River paper but am currently exploring Yamamoto Bank paper and some others by Midori and Iroful.)
I intend this video to be a sort of baseline for where I am at right now with paper. Paper is the most challenging (TO ME) of the variables of writing with fountain pens. I'm super comfortable with ink, I am where I want to be with nib/feed/pen bodies (heavily prefer Broad nibs and other juicy nibs) but when it comes to paper I do see myself staying in one lane (or 5 separate lanes I should say) and often being timid of branching off onto side roads. However, the time has come to ramp up my exploration these wonderful notebooks + paper I've been blessed with.
Clearly, I don't need anymore paper ... and there is more that I didn't show ... the rest of this year I intend to try out as many of these different paper types as possible. I'm still formulating how I will work them into my daily writing and into my videos.
Lets talk about paper in the comment section. I started having this You Tube channel in September 2017 - so over the past almost 7 almost 8 years I learned everything I know from pen pals and viewers and fellow You Tubers. There is still much to learn about paper. And it's the hardest of the areas for me to make many general conclusions!
Thank you for watching and thank you for all your support over the years.
