Geir, thank you for this short and solid video about your paper negatives. I still on a way to try PN but hadn't got yet contrast low enough. But your work inspired me much and I always remember your negative with a tire in water. So simple and brilliant! You doing a great and I thank you for sharing this!

Those are some very striking images, can you scan paper negs on a regular all in one (home/office) type scanner/printer?
@GeirBakkenVestfold4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your nice comment :-) I haven't tried it with an office scanner. So i can't really tell how successful it can be. Paper is much easier to scan than film, so it should work.

A helpful video. I'm using a variety of old fixed-grade papers, which may be 30-40 years old. I get good results at EI6.

Fine resultater 👍🏻 Hva tror du om rødfilter? Vil det bli for mye effekt på blåtonene?
@GeirBakkenVestfold4 ай бұрын
Hei Tusen takk for hyggelig kommentar Jeg tror ikke det blir mye lys som papiret kan reagere på. Det blir for mye filtrering. Papiret er nesten helt blindt for rødt lys.
@SMydland4 ай бұрын
@@GeirBakkenVestfold Ja sant! Jeg innså at rødfilter ville fungere dårlig. Så jeg har prøvd noen testbilder med gulfilter, og det ser ut til å fungere bra 👍🏻

How many minutes of exposure in bright sunlight is enough to produce a good photo?
@GeirBakkenVestfold Жыл бұрын
I use lenses, and in bright sunlight at F16, paper at ISO12 and again compensated 1 stop for yellow filter makes an F6 measurement. That gives me 1/6 second at F16, 1/3 at F22, 1.5 seconds at F45 and 3 seconds at F64.

How do you make positives? Don't you lose lots of details by contacting? Or do you just scan it?
@GeirBakkenVestfold11 ай бұрын
I do both. Sometimes I want a print and then i make a contact print. Both scan and contact printing can make beautiful results. And the print is not enlarged so it will look detailed and contrasty enough at the original size. Some negatives are a bit challenging, so i need to try to make good negatives planned when I make the exposure.
@peinmilan11 ай бұрын
@@GeirBakkenVestfold I make 8x10 contact prints from films. It would be cheaper to experiment with paper but I'm afraid the positive process would lose too much compared to the film contact. Maybe I should give it a try anyway.... :)
@GeirBakkenVestfold11 ай бұрын
I can't give an absoulute answer, but I guess the light gets a bit scattered by the paper backing. It may make the positive look a bit softer because of a slight loss of local contrast. I have never done a direct comparison with film on the same subject. But it is a cheap alternative that may give beautiful and interesting results. @@peinmilan

Very good explanations But my answer is How do you do the copy By contact?? On an enlarger?? Congratulations from ARGENTINA
@GeirBakkenVestfold9 ай бұрын
Thank you for taking time to comment 🙂 I do contact printing by butting the negative paper with emulsion side down on the receiving photo paper. Then a thick plate of glas on top of it. The enlarger is simply used as a light source. Best regards from Norway

I never understood: expose for shadows and develop for highlights. How to proceed
@GeirBakkenVestfold10 ай бұрын
I will try to make a understandable answer. The development process is more active in the highlights. More development gives higher contrast and brighter higlights. That is why it is easier to expose with the right amount of light in the shadows, then use the right amount of development to make the higlights look good.
@chriscard654410 ай бұрын
@@GeirBakkenVestfold ok for the development part. But now where do you measure your light ? do you use zone system or simply your shadows will be middle grey 18% ?
@GeirBakkenVestfold10 ай бұрын
@@chriscard6544 I normally use incident reading. I measure the light not the subject. That usually gives nice shadows.
