Quo didn't do lead guitar, that's 1 of the things that made their sound different. I grew with them, other heavy rock bands made a big feature of lead guitar, & sometimes keyboards & drum solos, Quo didn't, and for many at the time it was a big attraction.

ALAN CHARLES LANCASTER otherwise known as NUFF, has passed away in Sydney, his home for 45 years. The founding member and the backbone of STATUS QUO had been suffering from Multiple Sclerosis for many years. Alan battled on bravely, performing at QUO's Reunion gigs in 2013 and 2014. Even though he had MS, Alan's performance and his vocals were the strongest of the three. My favourite member of QUO is Alan Lancaster. I had the pleasure of having a beer and a smoke with Alan at a Sydney pub gig, in Five Dock, when he had The Lancaster Bombers and The Lancaster/Brewster Bands in the late 80's. We had a longer chat at The Lewisham Hotel as well. These were dirty, grungy hotels, though this didn't phase the great man of the people. Alan was the most beautifil man, very humble, down to earth and a great guy to talk with and have a laugh. Vale Alan ( Nuff ) Lancaster RIP mate, you were one of the greatest Rockers of all time.

I saw them maybe half a doz times in Germany in the late seventies.. Nothing has beaten that since. The thumping of the drums and bass and the perfect syncro of the two guitars remains unmatched... I was only 10 yrs young in 1971, though I heard that QUO blew SLADE off stage at The Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. It's a very brave band that follows THE QUO on stage. QUEEN are a pretentious and pompous cabaret act, so QUO have supported those twats many times. They are also good friends. " Tie Your Mother Down ' is QUEEN's best song and coincidentally it is a very QUO sounding song. LOL!!!!!!!!! QUO supported DEEP PURPLE in 2006 in Sydney, no prizes for guessing who the better band was that night. I do love SLADE and PURPLE very much.

@@alanstrom2221 I was at that concert. Jan 1973. Quo were due to be 3rd band on stage followed by Slade. There were some early tech problems so they were running late the whole show. It was decided Slade would go on before Quo. I can still see the boys halfway up the stairs when they were called back. You were right though they were great. Best band all day.

Masterpiece of the understated, many came along later on and unknowingly copied the formula but Quo were first and never bettered. One day they will get the credit they deserve, and Rick would of just giggled like he did and said he already knew..... Spud is Left-Handed and plays Right-Handed. His Drumming style is unique. QUO's other Drummers missed drum fills and cymbal crashes. Matt Letley would be my 2nd best QUO Drummer.

Absolutely Johno, the Drummers that followed Coghlan missed Snare Fills, Tom Fills, Cymbal Crashes etc. Nobody's as good as Coghlan. Matt Letley is probably their 2nd best Drummer. Pete was OK, though the Drum sound on 1982 and Back To Back was out of his control.

This is a brutal straight in your face heavy rocker from Quo! Heard it a thousand times - will hear it another 1000 ones! It's a song like "Paper Plane" what Quo is all about for me. Remember buying the Piledriver album in the early 1980ies. Almost 10 years after its release. Stunning cover with them standing and banging like hell. Later on i talked to guys who saw them live on stage in the early/mid 1970ies. We all totally freaked out - they told me. Those were the days. I was totally freaking out as a young boy after i got in contact with them by the release of the "Whatever you want" album back in 1979. Couldn' get enough "from the makers of....."! Luckily, the gunja wasn't too strong in 1971 and QUO made the best Stoner album in History. Which was " DOG OF TWO HEAD " " She was a big one I met at a gig one, a Mean, Mean Girl" In a Hundred years time, History will look back and realise that STATUS QUO were and are the most influential, significant and important, genuine Rock band of all time. To say that I love them, would be the biggest under statement of all time.
