She never gets to have that closure with him and barely gets to realize that he was also more than what she saw in him. The true closure takes place when they bury the book and then takes off. The movie just didn't give us that :(

The way I see it, everyone has their purpose in life and you can’t just wait for it to come to you. Margo loved to feel alive and she did that by finding herself, by testing her limits and doing what she loved. When she left, that was her leaving her present self. She was surrounded by “paper towns” and “paper people”, all of whom she saw as fake. They lived their lives as if to chase perfection and she even did that for awhile. She was the beloved popular girl with a boyfriend and a huge social stratosphere. But she realized that that stuff, those people, were her future. She left the next morning after the night with Quentin, but she left bread crumbs. They’re viewed as pieces to see her whereabouts, to where she’s gone. But she doesn’t want to go back, she wants to say that she was there in that paper town. The breadcrumbs were the memories, and the fact is she did grow up there. But she doesn’t want to stay, she wants to find herself, she wants to see what can happen if you break free from your perfectly set future and find what could actually happen. I’ve heard that things always turn out good in the end, and if they don’t, it’s not the end. So maybe Margo wouldn’t end up with her perfect boyfriend and be a housewife, but at least she could say that she chose that for herself. (PS: the reality is that things work out perfectly for some people without leaving, but others have to find what is actually meant for them).

Just read the top comments and the replies from the top comments. They explain it perfectly. It's not your typical cliché romantic movie at all. It really makes you think. It also really makes you think about life honestly. Brilliant. 10/10. Would watch again. It also mentions Saskatchewan in the movie, where I live! Anyone else? No? Just me? Okay.

Although she may be fantastic, I cannot believe and accept that a supermodel is playing the Margo that was written in this book. It's wrong to miscast a character like this and going for what Hollywood defines as beautiful, rather than what was written. It sets a bad tone and feeling, for countless young women out there. Why not cast the curvy, short hair, NORMAL girl that was in the book? Where is the short haired curvy wonder woman that I read in my teens?!
@Heyitsscottt9 жыл бұрын
Maybe in some ways it's also not so bad that a skinny girl is on screen. Any shape should be accepted as a character. I think sometimes we've come to skinny shame which is such a devolving thing to do, but if that's what the character was, then sure :) p.s I love your content!
@beckiejbrown9 жыл бұрын
I disagree, when a character is specifically written to defy Hollywoods beauty standards, and is corrupted back to what Hollywood defines as beautiful - then it's wrong. I want my Margo... not a skinny model to make me feel bad about myself and others with larger frames, feel bad about themselves too.

I watched this movie since it was first released and up til now, I still watch it. It's like a tradition to me to go back to this movie every year. To remind myself of who I really am and what am capable of doing and what the world could really offer. I always invisioned myself to be someone whose successful in a very independent way without the help of any male being. No relationships, no other commitments than to myself and to the career path am taking. I thought I'd be happy if I'd end up that way only to find out that it's actually the other way around. In 2mos I'd be marrying the guy who added color to my dull and lifeless paper town. He's the greatest plot twist I could say. Well not that my chapters or pages would already be coming to an end but, we never know. I love how people in here viewed this movie/book. Lots of Love to all the people behind this master piece.💕

Adema A A young boy lives across the street from a girl he's in love with. By the time they hit high school, she pretty much ignores him. 2 things i loved about this movie: 1. Casting Nat Wolff in this movie really was something great. First time i remember him was seeing him on the Nickelodeon show The Naked Brothers Band with his brother Alex. 2. The whole premise of the movie is so enticing that i literally rewatch this movie over and over. Watching this movie makes me and anyone who wants to come out their zone to live life to the fullest and do things you never thought of doing. I start doing things i never thought i would do like taking trips to new places, doing things that i never thought i would do like parasailing, snorkeling, learning to fly a plane, just stuff most would second guess themselves of doing. Of course it’ll never be like Margo but to be living life as it goes on is something to experience.

I know it wasn't John Greens intention, but I have a feeling the movie is going to ignore what the book actually meant to say and go with the whole 'wow real LOVE wow look how romantic this is, the nerdy guy and the super hot quirky girl who's so quirky she changes his life' cliche
@AmazingGracer459 жыл бұрын

I think we are going to have to trust John Green on this one. In all his vlogs and everything he has said about the film he talks about how Clara -eyebrows- Delevingne understands the character more complexly than anyone else. I don't think that statement is one to take lightly. Remember the trailer for TFIOS? It was so annoyingly soppy. But the film itself was true to the books and broke hearts everywhere. Trailers are designed to appeal to a wide audience, plus if they told us in the trailer that she wasn't your typical manic pixie dream girl that would be giving too much away.

You can't judge based on a trailer. 😂😂 we'll have to wait till July 24 and see

John Green did say that he thought they did a good job of keeping the themes of the book, and not just the plot though. It might feel sligthly more "Hollywood" than the book, but I trust John's opinion :)

I don't know where all the bullshit John Green hate has been coming from lately, but it makes me so sad. I mean everyone has a right not to like him and his work, but tumblr needs to relax. His books were such a big part of making my high school experience survivable and I am so glad for his work and his charities and his unapologetic enthusiasm for everything. I am so excited for this movie. x
@peaceandraven1199 жыл бұрын
A lot of the stuff tumblr hates on him for is pretty inaccurate, too...I've seen people say that he portrays broken girls who just need guys to save them which hasn't really been a part of any of his books...sure, he portrays a lot of broken girls, but I don't see how anyone thinks Alaska or Margo or even Hazel were saved by the guys they were with? And yes, he uses the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope a lot, but he has some of the most honest deconstructions of that trope, too, how that is an unrealistic way to view someone and you can't date someone who you think of as a MPDG because you're not seeing who they really are. And as far as cancer books go (having had a close family member with cancer), TFIOS is one of the better portrayals of it- nothing is romanticized, there is no Magical Cancer Patient, you get to see them in all their humanity dealing with a situation that is blatantly awful (the gas station scene? the oxygen tank? the limited mobility and quality of life? how the parents were dealing with it? the constant worry, even if they can escape it every now and then?). Sorry, this was a long rant to say basically that I agree with you. I mean, I can see how he could definitely have more diversity in his books (especially since most of his nonwhite/nonstraight characters tend to be relegated to funny sidekick roles), but I rarely see criticisms based on that...

Is it me or is Cara Delevingne not the right person for the role? Margo was a chubby, unpopular, short-haired girl and that is not emphasised enough with her as the actress. I don't think there will be a Sea World scene and that is not the producer of the movie's fault. It was completely out of their hands. There was some issue with Sea World and mistreatment of animals or something like that, which meant they couldn't put the scene in the movie. I don't know the full details and everything was more complicated than that, but there was a news article about it at one point.

It’s been a while since this movie came out, but in case someone had the same experience as me and is watching the trailer in 2019, I’d just like to share this. When this movie came out my friend and I had just booked our trip to Europe. It was going to be the biggest trip I’ve taken in my whole life. We felt this movie would be a good ‘travel’ or ‘road-trip’ movie to get us into the spirit and we weren’t wrong. I enjoyed it. Tonight my younger sisters wanted to watch this. I haven’t seen it in years and when it ended I was overwhelmed with feelings of nostalgia - a combination of remembering the good times in Europe and the sadness of it being in the past. Since Europe my life hasn’t been the same. I’ve been a little unhappy and I’ve struggled to capture the happiness I felt when I was traveling. Watching this movie made me feel so bittersweet because it connected to a certain memory, but the movie itself with the story about friendship, leaving high school behind, bonding with friends before life inevitably changes, and traveling outside your comfort zone made me feel so much at peace. Like people said, this movie strangely enough made you think about life, moving on and letting go. I needed that.

This movie changed the way I see life. I was 12 when I saw this trailer, and it opened my eyes to what an adventure life is. I have never been the same since and I am so grateful 💖

Can't believe that almost a year ago this movie came out. I was going to be a senior year of high school when this movie was coming out and my last year of high school felt like Paper Towns somewhat. While I was mixed in how the movie turned out, I still enjoyed it. Thank you John Green (who I just meet recently at VidCon) for changing my senior year and my whole life forever by your books.

I'm just about to go into my senior year. How was your senior year similar to it, I'm intrigued? I could only dream my one would end up even close to it.
@edsterrock8 жыл бұрын
+Ash is Alright Well, in high school, I was very much like Q as well as Tom Phelan from the React series (who I also meet at VidCon), Thomas Sanders and Nat Wolff to some degree. My senior year is similar to Paper Towns in some ways. I did do things that were my last this past year and I like Q, I was chasing down to an unrealistic dream that was not going to happen anyways but did let me have to do somethings that were not only the first but last time to do before high school. That's why Paper Towns was somewhat similar to my final year in high school. Except that I did not go on a trip. The advice I can give to you for your last year of high school is live it out as much as you can. Don't let the little moments pass, be here for them.

Thanks for the response and senior year advice! Honestly I'm looking forward to the end of high school, but I will try appreciate the little moments that I may strangely reminisce over in the future. :)

It really kills it for me that Cara Delevigne potrays Margo, to me it was essential that she was just an average weight girl and not a supermodel
@sofiab53039 жыл бұрын
Tbh Cara doesnt have the perfect body of a model, she is more popular for her personality and eyebrows lol, if you actually check pics of her in a bikini, you'll see she is pretty average. Also her height is pretty normal.
@flojowithattitude9 жыл бұрын
Sofiab you should probably reconsider your definition of "average weight girl" (in the US)
@sofiab53039 жыл бұрын
flojowithattitude I mean, like she doesn't have a perfect body, far from it, she is just really skinny, like an average normal skinny girl.

I remembered watching this trailer for the first time back in 2015. I had no idea whatsoever about the book's premise nor do I care about the author, John Green. But then, everything changed. I decided to give this book a shot and was surprisingly enthralled by it; the film version is equally captivating, and, might I say, a more simple and concise version of the whole story. Thank you John Green for bringing these characters to life, and for allowing 20th Century Fox to make an adaption. I just want you to know all this, even if you'll most likely never get the chance to read this.

It’s the middle of 2021, it’s been 6 years since I last watched the movie, and just recently, I bought a copy of the movie here on YT and this movie never fails to inspire me, again. This is literally my favorite movie of all. When I rewatched it 2 days ago, I just remembered the memories when I last watched it when I was just 12. ❤️ Gonna rewatch it next week again❤️

This is my opinion: I'm still not feeling Cara as Margo Spiegelman. I expected Margo to be more of a typical high school cheerleader type of a girl with blonde hair. But if this is what John Green saw in her, I'll take it.

Multiplex I'm only just reading the book now (about half way through) and I still don't know how it ends from this. Without knowing the story, all you get is there's a girl named Margo and the other try to find her when she goes missing. And they seem to search in a lot of places.
