Why have I never thought of doubling up each cover and the spine with cardboard...that would def make it not warp, wouldn't it **sigh**

If you double the cardboard but the glue is very watery then it could still deform, in that case just let it dry under weights or in a press (I don't have one at the moment so I always use very thick books 😂)
