I think it came out last month, it's one of my favourite books this year :) It's about a 12 (or 11?)-year-old girl named Thera whose best friend has been raped and murdered. And since no one would tell her what happened, since she's so young, she's gonna investigate herself, with the help of her best friend's ghost and a few other dead girls. There are some disturbing scenes but it's very thought-provoking and just so, so good!

I read about a third of 'Every heart a doorway' and just did not like it at all. I'm wondering if maybe i just wasn't in the mood but I found the writing to really fall into the trap of telling instead of showing and the dialogue seemed way too unrealistic even in the context of it being fantastical.

Don't get too excited over Children of Blood and Bone. Mostly on the romance side. If you can over look it, you may enjoy the book really well. I hate the romance of protagonist and character x but the other one... Hmmm. I dunno just everything else us fine and easy to love. (Don't fall for the potential of a gay couple. I thought there was going to be between protagonist and character y but there wasn't despite it sounding like they are more than friends and y sounds very bi but it's okay...)

paperbackdreams Lmao sorry! I hope you’ll like it, but I feel like everyone is hyping it because it’s a diverse book. I think they feel like they HAVE to like it because it’s diverse and diversity is important (of course). I liked most parts of the book except the romance and it wasn’t as action packed as I expected and the writing isn’t exactly perfect. I hope you’ll be 110% honest about it even if you love or hate it. 😁 I guess I just expected more because I didn’t see one single bad review about Children of Blood and Bone until recently!

Safia Hussein young adult follows characters from the ages of about 14/15-18/19, new adult follows characters into their late teens and 20’s and then adult follows adult characters. there’s a lot of overlap with ages though, so you can also discern which is which by what tropes are in the story
