I love Lauren's choice in books. She always picks books that are unique and books I've never heard of before. While Kat makes me excited for a book I've heard about but didn't feel interested in (I thank her for that, caused me to read my now favourite books), Lauren always introduces new books (to me at least, books that I feel aren't as popular)

The recommendations you gave me are definitely things I would be interested in, almost to a scary extent. The Young Elites is actually one of my favorite series (and I was super fortunate to get the chance to meet Marie Lu at GeekyCon soon after it came out and got the first book signed!!!!), and Marie Lu is among my favorite authors, so I found it very amusing that you recommended that based on my request. Now I'm actually considering rereading the series when I finish my current read, as I haven't touched them since the final one came out. The Southern Reach Trilogy is actually another rather accurate recommendation based on my interests. I haven't read them yet, but I have been interested in checking them out ever since I found out that a podcast I listen to is heavily influenced by the series (to the point that many people have accused the podcast of stealing ideas from the books), though everything I've heard has made me believe the books are much better than the podcast, which in this case isn't hard to do, as the podcast is... not the greatest at actually giving any answers or moving the plot forward in any meaningful way. (Sorry, rant over). Anyways, I will definitely be checking them out sooner rather than later now!

i loved six of crows but feel hesitant to read the young elites because i haven't been a fan of marie lu's legend, and while warcross was fun i didn't think it was particularly deep. i'm just afraid i'll compare it too much to six of crows and nothing can compare to that. is it worth reading without comparing to another book that is basically perfection? i will also check out area X if i end up liking annihilation by the same author! also if you do another recommendations video then i would love to get your recs for books with well-developed and healthy romantic relationships! i just made a video gushing over this one YA scifi book that had such an awesome couple and asked if ppl had recs for similar wholesome ships, but many people in the comments struggled to think of fictional couples that aren't problematic, WHICH IS REALLY SAD. surely y'all have found a book with otp goals?!

The Young Elites is a huge step up from Legend. One issue you may have with it though and that I feel the need to warn everyone of is the fact that while the main character's POV is in 1st person, other character's POV are all in 3rd, which can be rather jarring.

Good to know that TYE is much better! I’ve gotten better at not being too picky with writing so the changing POVs should be fine. I just want a good story with characters and relationships I care about 👌
